#Jazz and R&B intertwined with poetic expressions of love, is the foundation of Point Blank's new CD, Soul Stream. The band expressed what their new album really is about, "Soul Stream is a journey into the spirit of the listener. From the introspective to somewhere beyond extrospectiveness, this body of work captures the imagination with musical ideas that caress the soul and soar to the heights of the human experience. Indeed, it is as if these musicians have found a way to amplify thought and mood through a stream of sound that engulfs and propels one into reminiscence of people, places and acts."
The announcer for the evening excited stated, "Give it up for #Point Blank band." The audience roared with applause of anticipation for the prolific musical sounds they were about to hear. Immediately, fans began to sing along and dance as Dorden Bivings sang Kem's, Love's Calling and Chaka Kahn's, #Sweet Thing. Now it was time to entice the audience with one of the band's powerful originals on Soul Stream entitled, Him or Me, which was composed by Bivings and is the second song shared in the above video. The question is asked by Dorden during the song, "Do you want him or do you want me?" Point Blank, blended compelling instrumental sounds that stimulated the crowd in "a frenzy of head bopping and finger popping." Some audience members screamed, "I like that tune!" This smooth yet, laid back tune, truly got the crowd involved in a sing along as they asked the question, "Do you want him or do you want me?"
Point Blank, soothed the souls of the audience as they performed Canto A Elegua. Percussionist Juan "Cuco" Castellanos, played a cajon solo with Gerald Chavis on trumpet and Jerry Blake on sax. The title of this song is as intriguing as its mellowness. Steve Pratt, was on guitar, Winnie Ferguson, played bass with Zack Stevens on keyboards and Kerry Little, on drums as they performed another powerful instrumental entitled, Can't Hardly Wait. A young lady suddenly stepped on stage by the name of Sweet Franchon Beeks. She filled the room with a poetic rap, that enhanced the audience with a pure groove of distinction.
Soul Stream, Point Blank's new CD also consist of a powerful instrumental composed by Michael Jackson entitled, Heartbreak Hotel. A portion of this song is shared for our listening pleasure as the first song in the video above. Another tune Overflow, was explained as, "what the audience will receive in the future." It was composed by Dorden Bivings as he played keyboard and is joined by an overflow of music from Jerry Blake on saxophone, Gerald Chavis on trumpet and the very talented Point Blank members. Other melodic songs such as Melancholy, composed by Gerald Chavis, gives the listener a source of engrossing delight as opposed to sadness based on its title. There are more than sixty minutes of captivating tunes for your listening pleasure. This masterpiece of musical orchestration, will linger within your soul, long after the last tune is played.
The audience members immensely enjoyed an evening of delicious food such as fried chicken, fried catfish, cornbread, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. #Warmdaddy's, is located in Philadelphia, Pa and on that night it was filled with captivating streams of sound that made our hearts rejoice. The spotlight was also featured on Point Blank's soundman Ivan, as well as the numerous waiters and waitresses, especially Anthony Cantaloo, who served as our waiter. Numerous guests for the evening expressed how much they enjoyed the performance by Point Blank. These audience members included, Fran, Jillian, Roy, Shyleta, Dom, Chanell, Mike-the greatest of all time, Donovan and his wife Karen. Taj and his wife Margaret stated, "It was beautiful. We had a great time and we really enjoyed the show." Ed, explained that it was his first time at Warmdaddy's but "I had a ball. It was good. I will come back. The show was awesome and spectacular."
A special dedication was also made to Paul Lee, who was a member of Point Blank but passed away before the CD was completed. The song, "Passionate Love (Paul's Tune) composed by Paul Lee-Man With The Horn A Music (ASAP) The track was recorded the last time we had the pleasure of working with our brother Paul Lee. We began to work on this composition but never completed it. We left it in its original form as a testament to Paul and his legacy that lives on in each of us," stated Point Blank band members inside the CD cover.
