Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes articles about the royals.

The President of the United States has a habit of calling people names or using negative adjectives to describe them. He has done that to people in the past. However, just this week he described Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex in a negative way. She made a remark about him when he was campaigning in 2016 for the highest office in America.

President Trump called Meghan Markle "nasty" over a past critical comment even though they both have moved on. He won the election to become President of the United States, and she has become a royal wife and mother.

Trump's remark is giving people something to talk about and it is overshadowing his trip to the United Kingdom where he is widely disliked. He has only a 21 percent positive approval rating there.

People protested when he visited last July. After Trump arrived in the UK this week, people lined the streets to protest again this year.

What Donald Trump Said

Donald Trump was interviewed by the British newspaper The Sun before his scheduled trip to the United Kingdom. He was asked about his reaction to Meghan Markle description of him during a 2016 appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

The president remarked, “I didn’t know that she was nasty.” He followed up by saying he wished her well. He added that he is sure she will be excellent as a royal.

President Trump will not get a chance to come face-to-face with the Duchess of Sussex during his state visit to the United Kingdom. He should not think she will deliberately avoid him. The Duchess of Sussex has a good reason not to be in the presence of Donald Trump even though she still is a citizen of the United States.

Meghan is on maternity leave after having given birth to a baby boy on May 6, 2019. She has not returned to royal duties since the arrival of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor just three weeks ago.

What Meghan Markle Said About Donald Trump

Before Meghan became the Duchess of Sussex, she did make a remark about the then-presidential candidate. She appeared on a nightly talk show and described him as “divisive” and “misogynistic.” She said she would continue to live in Canada where she was shooting the legal drama, Suits if he won the election. This was before she met and began dating Prince Harry.

Meghan had a distaste for Trump as a politician before she became a royal. Her remarks became part of public record. As a royal, she isn’t allowed to make public political statements now about Trump or any other politician.
