Promoting A Gig or Tour
The first thing you'll want to do when you have an upcoming show is have a plan. Don't wait until the last minute and think just a Facebook invite is going to do the trick. Not everyone even looks at those type of invites (I know I usually don't). Dig deep to find creative and fresh ways to let people know what your up to.
1. Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.)
Don't rely solely on these but don't ignore them. Make an event on Facebook but also post it to your page so your fans can see it. Talk about the event on your twitter and include the conversation your listeners/fans who have been asking about your next performance.
2. Your Website
It's the hub for all things you! Make sure when people land on your website they can easily find out when and where you'll be performing next.
3. The Original Social Networking: Word of Mouth
Go back to the good ole days of talking to your friends about an event. Tell the people you see at your friends shows, restaurants, open mics, where ever you go that you're having a great show this week. You don't have to throw it down their throats but if there is an opening, take it! You should be your biggest promoter.
4. Go to the Venue
Check out some performances that take place a few nights before your gig and let people know they should come back for an amazing time when you hit the stage. Give the venue a poster of you to help promote there while your gone.
Another tid bit to consider for a tour is to go visit some of the local places and promote there before your show. It also can't hurt to get to know the owners and managers of nearby establishments, you never know when you'll be able to help each other. Network!
