Ra One - ShahRukh Khan Decline?

Ra One, the latest movie from Bollywood Superstar, SharRukh Khan, was a massive hit at the box office throughout the world. Ra One is an action superhero comedy based on the Tron movie from Hollywood. The opening few weeks brought in a lot of money so you can probably say it was a success and will continue to be a success.

Shar Rukh Khan is and always has been a good actor with his unique style, but in recent films he has not stood out in the limelight as much as other actors in Bollywood. He is just gliding along on his reputation as the King of Bollywood.

Ra One looks great, sounds great but is not taking the genre of action hero seriously for the majority of fans. This is probably because it is targeted at the younger generation of filmgoers.

There is a decline in Shah Rukh Khan's performances and movies over the last decade and it is obvious to see from his serious fan base. He started off acting in villain roles and of insane characters and then slowly went into the romantic genre and ended up in the comedy department. So, is there a need for such a talented Bollywood actor to gradually decline and turn into a clown? Shah Rukh Khan is not a clown but the movies he has released in recent times have not hit the nail on the head for true fans. There were people that would not miss a single new Bollywood movie of his and they have to go and watch it in the cinema. As time went by, people could give some of his movies a miss without actually looking forward to watching it in the cinema, and watch it on DVD or Blu Ray.

Has the Shah Rukh Khan magic worn off? Is he trying to continue to make original blockbuster movies, or is he trying his best to compete with Hollywood? If he is, then he must be mad. There is no way in the world Bollywood would be able to get as close to Hollywood in a very long time!

Ra One is breaking barriers and taking Bollywood to the 'next level', but is it being portrayed properly? If this movie had an original story to it with some serious acting, for example like Arjun Rampal in Ra One or Om Shanti Om, then maybe it would have appealed to more fans of Bollywood with a fresh new look to Bollywood and it's capabilities with special and CGI.

What Shah Rukh Khan needs to do is go back to the drawing board and start afresh with some serious acting in movies with original storylines, rather than copy Hollywood movies.

He has done it with Ra One by copying Tron, Terminator, The Matrix, Iron Man and probably a few others! There was no need to do that. Instead why didn't he just make an original Indian folk story into a superhero all action movie which do not resemble any Hollywood movies? At the moment there are other Bollywood actors who have overtaken Shah Rukh Khan in making successful movies with excellent acting skills, for example Ranbir Kapoor, Amir Khan, Abishek Bachchan.

What King Khan needs to do is make some seriuos movies again with seriuos acting like in his first few movies which actually catapulted him to succes. He should go back to similar roles like he did in movies such as Baazigar, Darr, Veer-Zaara, Chaahat, Anjaam, Deewana, Mohabbatein etc. Some of these films were very very successful and a hit at the box office, and although time has moved on, you can always get away with a villainous role or an old storyline but contemporary like Salman Khan's massive hit, Dabangg.

Salman Khan has been rejuvenated after the succes of Dabangg and now he is refreshed and is making some quality hit movies in Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan needs to take leaf out of Salman Khan's books and try out different things to regain the confidence of Bollywood movie goers who have followed Shah Rukh Khan from the start of his journey over 2 decades ago.

Shah Rukh Khan has come a long way since his debut Bollywood movie and he deserves it. He deserves all the accolades and success he has built up over the years, but it is time to freshen things up and improve on the acting side of things. Maybe Don 2 will bring this fresh outlook? We don't know, but we do certainly hope so.
