Regine Velasquez is a famous Filipina actress and a recording artist gifted with a powerful voice and a wide vocal range. As an actress, she has won several Best Actress awards and she has been hailed a Box Office queen. As a recording artist, she is considered as the Philippines' Best-Selling Artist of All Time, selling more than 7 million albums in the Philippines alone, and selling more than a million albums in Asia.
Regine Velasquez was hailed as Asia's Songbird when she won the Grand Prize at the 1989 Asia Pacific Singing Contest held in Hong Kong. In 1991, she became the first Asian artist to stage a solo concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York with her "Narito Ako sa New York" (I'm Here in New York) concert. Regine is the first Filipino artist to win an MTV Asia Awards and also the first Filipino artist to have a CNN Talk Asia interview.
Regine Velasquez has performed with many popular international artists including Alicia Keys, Mandy Moore, Michel Legrand, Paul Anka, David Pomeranz, David Archuleta, to name just a few.
Regine's father, Gerardo, fondly known as "Mang Gerry", passed away recently. He died of cardiac arrest on February 3, 2014 at The Medical City in Pasig City at the age of 76. Mang Gerry is credited for training Regine by making her sing while in neck-deep water in the sea.
Personal Life
Regine Velasquez, whose real name is Regina Encarnacion Ansong Velasquez-Alcasid was born on April 22, 1970 in Tondo, Metro Manila, Philippines. The eldest child of the couple Teresita and Gerardo Velasquez, her siblings are sister Cacai Velasquez-Mitra, twins Deca Velasquez-Pineda and Diane Velasquez-Roque, and brother Jojo Velasquez.
Regine studied at the Hinundayan Central School in Hinundayan, Southern Leyte and later transferred to Balagtas Central School in Balagtas, Bulacan. She also studied at the St. Lawrence Academy (now College of St. Lawrence), also in Balagtas, Bulacan.
Regine Velasquez married her long-time partner singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid on December 22, 2010 at the "Terrazas de Punta Fuego" in Nasugbu, Batangas. Dubbed as the "Wedding of the Decade", the wedding was star studded and one of the groomsmen was Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, the incumbent President of the Philippines.

Movie Carreer
Regine Velasquez debut movie was a role in the film The Untouchable Family released on January 13, 1988. It was followed by a cast in the comedy-romance movie "Pik Pak Boom" before she co-starred in the comedy-musical movie Elvis and James with veteran comedian Joey de Leon and Rene Requiestas.
In 1996, Regine Velasquez got her first lead role in the film Wanted Perfect Mother. In the same year, she appeared as one of three lead actresses in the highly successful musical comedy DoReMi alongside Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco.
In 1998, Regine Velasquez played as a ghost in the movie "'Honey Nasa Langit Na Ba Ako". A year later, she co-starred with Aga Muhlach in the romantic movie "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" followed by the movie "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" with actor Robin Padilla in 2000.
In 2001, she starred in the movie "Pangako Ikaw Lang" with Aga Muhlach again (their second match-up), playing the role of Cristina. This movie earned Regine her Box-Office Queen award from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation. A year later, she won her Best Actress award from Star Awards for her role in "Maalaala Mo Kaya" episode entitled "Lobo".
Regine's other movies were "Ikaw Lamang, Hanggang Ngayon" (2002), "Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka" (2003), Captain Barbell (2003), Till I Met You (2006),and "Paano Kita Iibigin" (2007).
