I never payed much attention to celebrities and never was anybody's fan for long. When I was a kid I used to listen to the radio and I certainly loved some songs and followed the weekly ranking of most famous artists but pretty soon, once I got to my mid-teens, I was too busy studying and soon after I was too busy working and starting my own life and I forgot all about singers and rankings.

Until, that is, this portentous year of 2009 and the irruption of a megastar in the skies of celebrity, Susan Boyle. I contributed some to the prodigious number of hits her first perfomance in Britain's Got Talent garnered from the Internet in YouTube. I was tremendously moved by her voice, her courage, her simple gigantic musical genious.

I made her my first hub in HubPages. And then I followed with anguish the persecution that sadistic hounds from British tabloids started against her. I saw the dawn of hypocrisy and deceit and realized that some terrible disaster was going to fall upon her. When it finally happened I was somewhat relieved. She lost the first place in Britain's Got Talent ... that was all.

No doubt she suffered much but in the end, all of that was uninportant. She had conquered the hearts of millions of fans and that was bigger than the petty injustice she had been victim of. That night I became her fan in her site, and I realized that by the thousands people were doing just that, becoming her fans after she lost, to express their silent grief, their rejection of what had taken place that day ...

Still today I am her fan. I am not the fan of a musical artist, I realize now. The world is filled with the noise of thousands of musical artists, like popcorn exploding. And Susan Boyle is good, she's a great singer, but for me that would not be enough to move me as she does. I am the fan of Susan Boyle the handicapped child that was bullied in school. I am the fan of Susan Boyle that had the strength to continue against all odds with her studies. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who had the happy imagination to envision herself on stage and started doing what it took to be there. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who sang in weddings and small joints in Scotland. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who took care with great devotion of her old, ailing mother. I am the fan of Susan Boyle devastated when her mother died. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who had the noble idea of giving her care to other elderly people in her hometown. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who had the courage to enter Britain's Got Talent contest. I am the fan of Susan Boyle who received with a smile the insulting attitude of judges and public and gave to them and the world one of the most memorable performances in the whole history of musical entertainment. I am the fan of a courageous human being.
