Sappiest love songs ever

Updated on January 31, 2015

The Sappiest love songs ever

Listening to music is comforting. It soothes the mind, heart and calm us. I don’t know but sometimes if I get lonely or sad, I will listen to a music then I feel like I am in another world again. Music brings me to a pure happiness and I just smile and close my eyes when I listen to my favorite music. Maybe it is a factor of age that as I grow older my choice of music becomes specific. I like listening to soft music. Most of all I love listening to love songs. As one singer has put it “love songs don’t leave you, but lovers sometimes do”. Well, as I like to listen to love songs I have listed love songs which are so sappy for my own taste. Sappy songs could be described by extremely sentimental, songs which are sad and appeals to the emotion. In particular, these songs make me laugh for a second, then I try to listen again, but it is just too sentimental for me--too sappy for my taste.

I am not a musician, am just a music lover so I am not going to pretend to analyze these songs in terms of rhythm, content etc. The ordering is from least sappiest to the most. After reading this article, you might want to leave comments if you agree with me. This is just my list and please feel free to comment, what I classify as sappy might not be for others.

5. Eric Clapton -- Tears in Heaven

(This song was dedicated to his son who died because he fell in an open window. The regret of not showing his love while he is still alive.)

Beyond the door
There's peace I'm sure.
And I know there'll be no more...
Tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven
Will it be the same
If I saw you in heaven
I must be strong, and carry on
Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven

Eric Clapton

4. Bryan Adams Everything I do I do it for you

This song is definitely for a person who is in love. It is begging for love of the someone you desire. "When you find me, you will search no more", offering their best, and up to the extent of saying that everything they do, they do it for the one they love.

Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more

Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you

Bryan Adams

3. Kenny Rogers -- Lady

The man who is in love here is dedicating the song to his lady love. He is telling his lady love that he want to be with her forever and that their love is like no other.

In my eyes I see no one else but you
There's no other love like our love
And yes, oh yes, I'll always want you near me
I've waited for you for so long

Lady, your love's the only love I need
And beside me is where I want you to be
'cause, my love, there's somethin' I want you to know
You're the love of my life, you're my lady!

Kenny Rogers

2. Jose Feliciano -- Once there was a love

This song depicts a love once experienced and then gone. A deep love characterized by the depth of an ocean and then the lover went away and the man was left describing the love they once shared. A love which is full of devotion, but it is all gone.

Once there was a love.
Deeper than any ocean
Once there was a love
filled with such a devotion.
It was yours and mine.

To hold and cherish
and to deep for a lifetime.
Then you wen't away
on that lonely day

Jose Feliciano

And the sappiest of them all:

1. Michael Bolton -- How am I supposed to live without you

This is finding an answer why the lover left his loved one. And he is confused how to live without her now that she is gone and begging her  to tell him what to do because he is at loss.

Tell me how am I supposed to live without you
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
How am I supposed to live without you
How am I supposed to carry on
When all that I've been livin' for is gone

Michael Bolton

prettydarkhorse. Hi. I very much enjoyed reading this hub on love songs, I am still contemplating that phase sappy.

Kenny Rogers and Bryan Adams are a couple of my favorites.

Jennifer Rush singing The Power Of Love and Come Give Me Your Hand are what I love the most.

Thank you you sharing these songs with us. :) :)

Naah, Maita, I'm not really sick as people think sick. Yes, I have MS (Multiple Sclerosis) but it only effects my walking. Well, my dancing too.

When I go dancing or to karaoke I usually find a darlin' that enjoys sharing my lap riding on the handicapped scooter with me. LOL

I'm not "Sick" every night but do suffer from EBS (Empty Bed Syndrome. Here's my Hub on EBS.

      https://hubpages.com/health/EBS-Empty-Bed-Syndrome...

And yes, I do have a few songs on YouTube but I haven't put any up for over a year. Maybe next year...

Your Hubs are a delight! I listened to the Sappiest Songs, read the comments, and can't disagree with you.

The Sappy Song that makes me want to leave early, with my hair - with or without a lady - is 'You Light Up My Life'.

Everyone is supposed to click their bick or whatever lighter that they have. I saw a couple that clutched each other tightly for the last dance. The gal had taken along her lighter not to miss out on the fun. As the guy's nuzzled her neck, his long ponytail went up in flames.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcuBUCCjB-M

I guess every songwriter probably writes at least one Sappy Song. Maybe my Sappiest Song is designed as a closer for those that haven't quite made up their minds yet.

Hello PDH. Soppy songs are the last to be played before everyone goes home. Couples get up and dance holding each other tightly; passion mixed with alcohol mostly.

I'm not sure if we've had halloween here yet? I have no interest in it though, I find it idiotic... but I do appreciate your courtesy in asking.

hi EnglishM, thanks for dropping by and reading my hubs. They play these songs when everybody goes home? hmmm, that made me laugh. Oh sometimes. Phil Collins songs too are sappy. How did you spend Halloween?

Hello PDH. I've read three of your articles so far and your chosen topic is always interesting. In England we know the kind of songs you're referring to as 'soppy' loves songs. They're usually the last few tracks a DJ plays when everyone's ready to go home after too many drinks. Spandau Ballet's 'True' is a common one. I have to like the performer/performers as a human being/human beings first, before the music and lyrics. I thoroughly dislike Eric Clapton for being an irresponsible parent in the first place, but then to go on and make hundreds of thousands of pounds singing about it makes me want to throw up. Others I detest are Elton John and Phil Collins. I liked the picture of a pretty dark horse, but the picture of a pretty dark lady is much better.

to Dame Scribe: well yes, hey thanks for reading this, but maybe i just classified them as sappy because I am trying not to be affected by the songs, well in fact to my mind they are moving songs specially when you read the lyrics..

I have to agree with maven101, I too think We are the World is pretty sappy allthough it was a great team effort that did raise money for valuable charities and what not. I love my Eric though so I can never see him as being sappy. His song was a beautiful, heartfelt melody, that unfortantly,..many can relate too. Enjoyed the hub,.Fun seeing what songs are sappy to people,..LOL

to maven101, oh thanks for your comments...you know what maybe I could write another article about love songs which melts my heart..(or just maybe when I listened to these songs, I am in a heart-numb mode, and that guy left me......or maybe I refused to dig into the songs because I know it will melt my heart? ...do you join forums too, never seen you there..

to paraglider: yeah, your definitely right there. Filipinoes love sentimental songs,(I am amazed, you understand us very well). yes tell Laura I love her is sappy too. thank you paraglider for your comments. Well Clapton, I like the rhtytm of his songs, used to strum a guitar, but I still need to learn more...any back in Manila, I could sing these songs in karaoke and I will always get 98 to 100 (the thing is in karaoke all you need to do is make your voice louder, you scare the microphone so the machine will spew out highest score, lol...good day paraglider, your my idol!!

Heartfelt, of course, though not his best work by a long way, I always felt the Clapton song is too private to share.

I would nominate "Tell Laura I love her" for your list!

But when it comes to sappy, you must have been to more than a few Filipino karaoke parties? Late at night, the sappier the better seems to be the rule :)

Sappy ? I dunno, I would have to question that application to these songs you have given as the sappiest songs...They strike me as heart rending, thought provoking, and expressions of passion... Sappy would be something on the order of " We are the World ", or " What the World needs now is Love sweet Love "....Now those are truly sappy songs...

Bolton's passionate song rings true and many can associate with the message...Love you sweetheart, Larry
