Introducing The Sarah Jane Adventures

If like me you are a massive fan of all things Doctor Who related then you will of course be very familiar with Sarah Jane Smith played by the amazing, much loved and missed Elisabeth Sladen.

However, if you’re just now discovering the sensation of what used to be one of BBC’s hit show The Sarah Jane Adventures then it’s not too late to get caught up with all the awesome adventures that revolved around a middle aged journalist.

You will find that the theme of the show bears a few similarities to the BBC’s popular and classic TV programs Doctor Who, but that’s because this series is actually the spin-off.

The five series show was one of the more successful Doctor Who spin-offs and ran for a good four years from 2007 to 2011. It was well received by both critics and audiences, which was probably why it lasted for longer than a single season. And just because the show no longer airs that doesn’t necessarily mean the adventures have to stop for you. You can once again enjoy Sarah Jane’s journeys through perilous lands and uncharted space with The Sarah Jane Adventures!

The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete Second Season (2009)

It’s non-stop fun and action for the adventurous journalist. However Sarah Jane is not your average investigative journalist; in fact her life is far from average. While other journalists are covering stories about ordinary human activities, Sarah is off fighting aliens, discovering hidden secrets of the past, traveling to space and so much more.

Elisabeth Sladen does an outstanding job portraying the middle aged adventurer, but then again no one expected anything less from her performance considering she was one of the traveling companions of the Doctor in the earlier Doctor Who series. So these extraterrestrials, monsters and other strange anomalies are right up her alley.

If you thought the first season was packed with awesome adventures, then you haven’t seen anything yet. The second season of the program picks up where the first season left off and includes 12 new episodes which are:

  • The Last Sontaran, Part 1 and 2

Forests are quite often peculiar and ominous and the one that Sarah and her friends go into is no exception. It’s filled with strange sounds, glowing lights and aliens. Sarah once again faces off with her old enemy, a Sontaran. Now it’s up to Sarah and the gang to save Earth to stop Sontaran Commander Kaagh from destroying the Earth, and they’ve only got 40 minutes to do it.

  • The Day of the Clown, Part 1 and 2

Clowns are the substance of many childhood nightmares. They can be disturbingly scary and unnerving especially when children all over town go missing and all clues are pointing to them. But it’ll take more than just a scary clown to stop Sarah Jane on her venture to find and save the missing kids as well as her Luke.

  • Secrets of the Stars, Part 1 and 2

Stars are so beautiful and mesmerizing which is exactly why one astrologer uses them to hypnotize the town’s people and get them under his control. Will Sarah Jane be able to stop this madman or will she too find herself reaching for the stars?

  • The Mark of the Beserker, Part 1 and 2

The secrets that lie behind an alien pendant lead to an unexpected father and son reunion between Clyde and his dad while Sarah Jane is away. • The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith, Part 1 and 2

What is Sarah Jane willing to sacrifice to reunite with the parents she never knew? On a quest back to 1951, Sarah Jane gets more than what she bargains for while returning a boy back to his time.

I thought he was the cutest thing -- Almost worth having the series just to see him (or I guess I should say it [K-9]) again. Unfortunately I don't have a DVD player, but I may still get it to watch on my computer.

My daughter really enjoyed watching these when they were on the telly. It's a nice little spin-off from Doctor Who, which can be enjoyed by all the family.

Will you be writing about Torchwood next ;)

@TonyPayne it really was a great shame and a shock that Elisabeth Sladen was taken so young. She certainly left a great legacy.

I loved her character on Doctor Who but I think I probably only watched the first series of the Sarah Jane Adventures. I didn't realise there were so many seasons, it just proves how popular she was. Such a shame she was taken away far too young.

I watched a few of these and really enjoyed them. The Sarah Jane character was one of my favourites on Doctor Who over the years.
