Shazam Review
Writing:
Henry Gayden's script pardon the pun sparkles with an irresistibly and loose charm, yes the main story maybe cliche but it's drenched in nostalgia for the kids fantasy movies of the 80's and 90's its also unafraid to wear its emotions on its sleeve. (4.5/5)
Cinematography:
Whereas not as visually interesting as Aquaman the film does have some moments of visual greatness and is a far cry from the dull and drab look of Justice League. (4/5)
Soundtrack:
Unfortunately Benjamin Wallfisch's (It) score is mildly disappointing for a superhero movie as it lacks the usual bombast you should expect from a film in this genre. (3.5/5)
Editing:
Apart from a couple of well used flashbacks the film is pretty much your standard point A to point B film but it doesn't drag or waste any of its 132 minutes run time. (3.5/5)
Directing:
David F. Sanberg (Lights Out) really shows his horror roots off with some genuinely creepy moments and you can see how much fun he's having with this project even if it does get unashamedly cheesy. (4.5/5)
Acting:
Zachary Levi(TV's Chuck) is really relishing in his role as the teenager stuck in the titular hero's body and shares fantastic chemistry with Jack Dylan Grazer (It) Asher Angel who plays Billy Batson is kind of generic in his role. Mark Strong (Kingsman) once again proves he's a very reliable performed as the films villain. (4.5/5)
Overall:
Shazam! Is way more fun than expected and has tonnes of charm, I can't wait for the sequel. 8/10
