Slumdog father Accused of Selling Young Movie Star Actress
For Sale: Child Movie Star
As odd as it seems, this kind of thing seems to only happen in Eastern or Asian countries, but now the father of Slumdog Millionaire's nine year old actress, Rubina Ali, has been accused of trying to sell his daughter in an adoption for only $400,000. The father has been said to have made an offer to an undercover reporter in Mumbai, India. The reporter posed as a shiek from Dubai.
The father, Rafiq Qureshi, denies all allegations and police so far have found little to substantiate the accusation. The allegation was reported in News of the World, a British tabloid, which may explain it all. Ironically, it was the father that stated it was the fault of Hollywood (Bollywood?) that forced him to giver her up for adoption. Hmm, how so, exactly? Oh, I know. The movie won Best Picture, his daughter is in it, now she is a star. She now is worth a lot more than before the movie...and what about the morality of selling any child for any amount of money??? I guess, money does talk!
Rubina's fatherĀ is desperate to cash in on their nine-year-old's success in the blockbuster film by selling her to the highest bidder. He sees it as his family's escape route from the notorious Bandra slum sprawl of Mumbai.
The police continue to investigate this after Rubina's mom told them she had heard about the plot a few weeks ago. Stay tuned.
