Songs with the Color Red
I'm not really sure why, but for some reason earlier, while I was taking a bath, I started thinking about songs that use the color red in them. As I was going through my mind in the tub, several great songs came forward, from the catacombs of my memory. This hub is about those songs.
Red Rain by Peter Gabriel
I remember hearing this song numerous times in the early 90s, but the significance of this song really didn't hit me until 1991 when the girl I loved broke my heart. She was a huge Peter Gabriel fan, but I didn't really get Peter Gabriel. I mean, I liked the song In Your Eyes that was featured in Say Anything and I liked Solsbury Hill, but that was about it. Anyway, I remember sitting at work one day, sad about my broken heart, and the song Red Rain came on a little portable radio I kept in my cubicle. Ever since then, I've loved this song.
I Saw Red by Warrant
I admit it, I used to like the hair bands of the late 80s and early 90s, including Warrant. I remember buying their Cherry Pie CD and hearing this song on the CD. This song really gripped me...I like the line "I saw red when I opened up the door" - I really liked the way red was used to describe anger and how the world might appear through your eyes when you become angry.
Little Red Corvette by Prince
Everyone I knew in the mid-80s was obsessed with this song and with Prince. Prince seemed to often use colors to describe his feelings - Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, etc. I used to ride my old 10 speed bicycle around the country and listen to Prince and I always enjoyed this song.
Red Wine by UB40
I pretty much hate this song, but I seem to hear it all the time. The only time I don't mind this song is when I'm drinking Redstripe beer in Jamaica on vacation...it's tolerable in that environment. Also, it seems like every band has covered this song. Neil Diamond did the original, but UB40 made it most popular.
Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh
I used to love this song, especially the video. This song had a very cool sound and the video featured some very hot girls. I didn't have MTV growing up, but I remember watching Friday Night Videos and always seeing this video. I wanted my own Lady in Red!
