The most influencial movies? You decide!
I recently went to a film fest. and watched some great movies that were ahead of their time. Of course, I started to think of an idea for this, my latest blog!
The movies below are not necessarily my choices for the best ever or even in their genre. This is actually just a list of the movies that I think broke new ground in Hollywood's History. Thank you for reading, and please leave me your thoughts below!
13. A Nightmare on Elm Street- A madman is killed. But now he has found a new way to exact his revenge! Like no creep before, this one of a kind, fascinating villain, stalks his victims in their dreams. No wonder this franchise is so popular!
All 7 Movies!
12. Candy man- A recent post Civil War execution created a very clever ghost that refuses to go away. The story was more intricate and complex than any other slasher since Psycho! Even though Tony Todd was 6'4 and was physically athletic, the character in this one was different. He was more clever that Jason, Michael, and Freddy. Not only has he been around a long time, he is also recruiting new blood for his "congregation" ! Do not say his name 5 times or the never ending terror, will begin! With little gore and blood, Candy man delivers with great acting and a very creative story line!
11. 13 Ghosts 1960- This added many new elements to horror and suspense. The concept of this movie was so new at that time, that the producer even gave an intro to prepare the audience. Special glasses help you see the ghost or not see , how ever you wished it. It also mixed horror and comedy in a different way. Margaret Hamilton and the supporting cast were excellent.
The top ten!
10. Star Wars 1977- This changed fantasy, sci fi , and action by demanding more from the story, and the endings. This franchise always pushed the limits, and that is what brought it to greatness.
9. The sixth sense- This had an unusual story about a Dr. trying to help a young boy who is misunderstood. It made this list because of the ending. Hollywood has tried to duplicate this many times since, but it can't!
8. King Kong- 1934-
Number 8 brought the giant beast to life! This was the dawn of the creature feature. Where would our world be without those?
7. Psycho- This was a thriller, and the fans knew that a surprise ending was coming. I will guarantee that no one saw that ending coming however! Alfred was the master!
6. Wizard of Oz- Based on a great book, the characters jumped off the silver screen and took our world by storm! The cast was near perfect, but this broke ground by using a new screen color technique. It also brought to life a cast of characters never seen before, in a new and different way.
5. Airplane-
The spoof that brought comedy movies to a whole new level. With the crazy one liners, unbelievable stunts, and a wild unheard of dialog that will always be quoted!
4. High Noon- This was the first movie ever to last exactly as long as the story did. That is very hard to do, and requires precise planning.
3. The 6th Sense- This was an unusual story about a Dr. trying to help a young boy get a grip on reality. There is a problem though. The young boy has a powerful secret, and so does the Dr. This is such an illusive situation that the Dr. himself has no idea what his secret is. This was probably the best twist ending in Hollywood History!
2. Frankenstien- Based on a very popular book, this one took horror to a new level. It was creepy, but very well done. It also ushered in the practice of using actors that were right for horror rather that just good or popular actors. Karloff broke new ground by being perfect for the roll as the Monster. Universal then used casts that were meant to do creepy as no others could!
Number One!
1.Citizen Cane- What can be said about the movie that did so many things for the first time ever? Too much for me to type! Again, I am not calling this the best movie ever, just the biggest ground breaker.
