The 5 Best Songs You Have Never Heard

There are so many amazing bands out there, and many many more amazing songs. Unfortunately, the majority of great songs go unrecognized by the media (MTV and radio). This means that most people miss out on great music.

Therefore, I decided to write a hub publicizing what I think are some of the best songs that have never hit the airwaves. Check out these great songs and the bands who wrote them.

5. Come On Over - The Plain White Tees

The Plain White Tees are probably the most mainstream band on this list. They became popular with their hit "Hey There Delilah" which was over played on radio stations across the country. Most people who are now PWT fans don't know about their first CD, Come on Over. It isn't even available on their official website. The title track, Come on Over, is undoubtedly the best song on the CD. It is a sweet, romantic song about a guy who is in love with a girl (quintessential Plain White Tees). The song gets me every time with the line "come on over, can't live forever, if we've got to grow older we might as well do it together". It is an amazing song.

4. Falling Star - Showoff

Showoff is an obscure band that only put out 1 good CD in the early 2000s. They were a poppy-punk band with a little bit of ska action going on in some of their tracks. The song Falling Star is an amazing song that truly showcased the talents of the band. It is a sad song about a failed relationship. It is the song that got me through all of my college breakups. The lead singer Chris Envy sings the line "Our love is a star up above and a falling star is a star that lost it's love" with such powerful emotion that it speaks to anyone who has ever experienced a break-up.

3. Someone Else - Goldfinger

Goldfinger is probably the second most popular band on this list. They gained widespread fame with the song "here in you bedroom" which was on the soundtrack of the hit movie "there is something about mary" and the song "vintage queen" which was on the American Pie soundtrack. However, the song someone else was never officially released by Goldfinger on any of their CDs. I would argue that it is one of the best songs they have ever written, and it definitely deserves much more attention than the band gives it credit for. The song is about wanting to wake up as a different person, a feeling that almost every single person in the world can relate to.

2. 40/80 - Lucky Boys Confusion

LBC is a rock band from the North Side of Chicago. I have to be honest, they are my favorite band of all time. I knew when writing this that they would make the list, but it was extremely difficult to chose which song to include, as a good majority of lucky Boys songs are amazing. I chose 40/80 because of its style and message. The majority of the song is rock, but in the middle there is a smooth transition to a rap-like interlude. This transition showcases the talent that the band has. The song sends a clear message about fighting against the system "I don't want to be a part of it, I will not give in, we must change from within - the system". Granted, the song is also about illegal drug use, but that I believe that the real message is individual liberty. Almost all of LBC's songs are intelligent and inspire thought, I highly recommend checking this band out.

1. Crystal Memories - Penny and the Loafers

Yes, this is the most obscure band on the list. They are a ska band, and only released oneself titled CD. Track 3 on that CD, Crystal Memories, is one of the best songs I have every heard in my life. I can't even say anything to describe the greatness of this song, you just have to listen to it.
