The Avengers vs Thanos: Round Two
I can vividly remember watching Iron Man for the first time when I was 11 years old. For me, it was just another superhero movie. As much as I loved the movie, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life in the near future. When I began to get older and more into movies, I began to realize a connection between these superhero movies that were coming out. I realized that they were all apart of one big universe. Once I noticed this, my love for these movies grew and grew. The Marvel Cinematic Universe created a whole new world that I could get lost in. It gave me characters to fall in love with, to feel for, and to cheer for. Every time one of these heroes would go on another mission, I would make sure to keep up with what direction these movies were headed.
Before Iron Man, I had no idea who any of these heroes were. When Samuel L. Jackson appeared in the post credits scene of Iron Man I didn't realize the importance of his appearance was because I had no idea who Nick Fury was. Now after 11 years, I can name every single character and how they came to be a hero. I can have a conversation with my brother for hours about the MCU and what I think will happen in Avengers: Endgame. The love that goes into these movies flows from the screen. These actors have been transformed into these characters. I knew who Robert Downey Jr.from Weird Science, Johnny Be Good, Heart and Souls, and The Shaggy Dog because these were the movies I watched growing up. However, Robert Downey Jr. has become Iron Man. I will always remember him as this character he has become.
Even Thor, who I absolutely dreaded after his movie debut Thor, grew to be a lovable character. I thought the first Thor movie was decent, however I hate the second one even today. I think it was a hard to follow plot and a weak villain that puts me to sleep anytime I try to watch The Dark World. However, Chris Hemsworth has embraced Thor and has created a rock solid hero. In the Avenger movies he was still falling flat for me, however, Thor became a bad ass hero after Thor: Ragnarok. Ragnarok was a major turning point for this hero. His powers were unleashed and there was no turning back. After being stripped of his hammer, he was powerless until he found the strength within to do damage. When Thor showed up in Infinity War with Groot and Rocket, I stood from my chair cheering. It was such an incredible moment for a character that slowly grew into a likable character. This is all due to how the MCU changed over the years and the passion that has been put into these movies as the Infinity Stones story unfolds.
The one character that I have come to idol is Captain America. Captain America: The First Avenger is the first Marvel movie I can remember seeing in the movie theater. I can remember sitting there in the dark theater surrounded by people, getting lost in the movie. I was so inspired by the scrawny kid from Brooklyn getting the opportunity to prove he is a hero. When the time came for him to risk his life by diving the plane into the ice and missing his dance, I knew that Captain America was the one Avenger I would root for no matter what. When The Winter Soldier came out in theaters and Cap had to fight to save his best friend, Bucky, I saw that Captain America was becoming more that just a character on screen- at least for me. He was becoming someone we the people can look up to. He always wants to do the right thing no matter the cost. I grew up with bullies everywhere and seeing how Cap stood up to the evils of Hydra gave me hope that I could also stand up to evil. In Civil War, Cap and Iron Man go toe to toe over The Hero Registration Act and they both had admirable reasons for either agreeing or disagreeing on the Accords, however I was still rooting for Captain America.
I'm getting off topic, but that is my point exactly. Everyone has their favorite character and could ramble on and on about why they love that character so much. I cannot wait for Endgame to come out this Friday, but I am sad... and a little scared... about the events that will unfold as they go against Thanos for round two. I am excited to see where this movie will take us, but am nervous about what might happen to some of the characters I love. I have so many predictions and theories on what might happen in Endgame, as I'm sure all of you do as well. What seemed like forever since the last time we have seen our favorite heroes on the big screen, we get to see what their plan is after Thanos's snap that wiped out half the universe. What will they do to get their friends back? How far will they go? What will they risk? And who is not making it back alive?
