The Kardashians Boycott: Agree or Disagree?

Updated on November 17, 2011

The Trouble With the Kardashians

I have to admit that I used to be a reality show junkie, which was strange because I had no interest in them when they first started coming out. I somehow started watching one, when I was clicking from channel to channel, looking for something of interest on TV. Well, I got hooked and used to watch a lot of them, including the Kardashians. After about three years, I got sick and tired of them. They were just too way out there and phony. I am now a recovered reality show junkie! I don't watch any of them anymore and don't miss them.

When I recently read that a woman named Cyndy Snider got a petition to get the Kardashians cancelled, I was very pleased. Of all the shows I watched, they were the most disgusting. I am not a prude, far from it, but I even blushed at some of the things they said and did. They are one of the most dysfunctional families I've seen in a long time and yet this is not brought out. The mother is a money grubbing monster, in my opinion, and Bruce Jenner is apparently one wimpy dude! The girls are selfish, conceited, vulgar, uncaring and just plain mean. I don't understand their appeal or how they even got to where they are. They are your typical non-celebrity "celebrities."

One of the main objections is the influence they have over teens and young adults. I can't think of worse role models. If my child started acting like them, I would lay down the law, so I do feel it's no excuse for bad behavior, but I also wouldn't want them watching this trash. That's not to say that I think anything that might cause my child to act inappropriately should be taken off TV. It's still my job as a parent to raise them the proper way. I just think that certain shows are just too disgusting to deserve any air time.

Maybe the most irritating thing to me is that these people are making a fortune off abhorent behavior! When are we going to stop making "celebrities" out of no talent morons? Out of people who have nothing going for them except they can be more shocking than the other guy? I think of all the decent, hard working folks out there who are barely making ends meet and then look at the makes me sad and a little sick. You sometimes wonder if being a good person is even worth it anymore. I think it is, but have to admit there are times when I wonder if being a classless, crude b.... wouldn't serve me better.

I am generally against censorship of any kind, but it's getting to the point where I feel we may be too free. Is there a line that shouldn't be crossed? When I heard about the boycott and petition, I was surprised, but also pleased to know others felt the same way about this clan. I wasn't the only one who was sick to death of them and disgusted by their behavior. I am tired of people getting rewarded for bad behavior...period. What do you think about this?

I agree completely and I have never seen the show, but have seen stuff here and there, and that was enough for me! LOL

Who actually enjoys watching that stuff anyway? I mean, really. I am no prude either but one has to draw a line somewhere.

      Up and more and away.

I agree with you about Charlie Sheen. There are so many examples of this out there it's almost frightening! I don't know if it got canceled or not...never heard anymore about it, but it's still on when I flip through channels! I'm not a prude, but where has decency gone? And enough pride in oneself to not make yourself look like that? Thanks for commenting!

Here Here catgypsy. I voted to cancel the Kardashian's. This show is disgusting and I have no problem saying it. What is up with all these ronchy relaity t.v. shows lately. My sister and I also felt the same way about two and a half men. It started out funny and kind of cute but as time went on, it got cruder and more disgusting. I think back when it was Charlie Sheen in the show, he had to be the worst role model on t.v.-well, along with the Kardashian's. Anyway, I think you see that we are both thinking on the same lines. BTW, did they ever get cancelled?

I have never heard of the Colony show, but it sounds interesting. If reality tv was real it would be interesting, but most of these shows are so not real, they're just sickening to me! They prove once again that bad behavior seems to be rewarded these days! Thanks for the comment. I'll have to check out The Colony.

The only time I even glanced at this reality show was when it was "forced" on me at someone else's house. I have no interest in them. I don't watch any of the hosewives, girls on any shore, or single people handing out roses to possible future spouces!

I do REALLY enjoy The Coloney however, where the volunteers are NOT paid for their participation in the experiment. Where diverse folks come together in a common situation. And where real problems bring out some vey good, and sometimes bad personality traits in the members of the group. I have actually learned alot from The Colony and respect it as a reality show!

fitnesszone, thanks for the comment. I can't think of any reality shows that are real, come to think of it! I think they would be more interesting if they were about real people. Only problem is the ones with "real" people turn those people people into "celebrities" (John and Kate, blah, blah, blah) and the whole thing is back at square one!

Yes, I agree that at the end of the day, I'd rather be a good person. I was raised that way and really can't be the other way! That's not to say I'm perfect...haha. I don't watch any of the Bachelor shows, so didn't hear about disgusting. How far are these shows going to go?

Thanks for the comment and the vote up!

Completely agree with you here cat; particularly your comment, "but have to admit there are times when I wonder if being a classless, crude b.... wouldn't serve me better...?"

I wonder that myself sometimes! Mostly when people steal my parking spots, and walk all over me in general of course...

But in the end, if I could look back and say, 'I finally learned to be an ass too get mine', or instead ' I sure ate a lot of crap and was a huge doormat, but at least I was a good person', I choose the latter. Lets face it, some of us are just wired differently. (or more likely, raised differently)!

And I so have to agree with you on 'Mama Kardashian', she makes me sick; and so of course her kids are a mess... Its just sad. they shouldn't be allowed on TV! Voted up!

PS: did you see the preview for the new bachelor?! They are exploiting an ELDERLY lady for ratings! With a WALKER! I am so not watching that show anymore either...

hawkdad73, I'm glad to know that a man feels that way...most men think they're hot and don't care! It is so true what you said, that we idolize people who don't deserve it! Thanks for the comment.

KoraleeP, I'm glad to know others agree with me! And, yes, the whole marriage and now divorce thing...I wonder how much she made off that wedding?

I will boycott them. I am not sure how I would boycott them anymore than I already do. I think they promote all that is wrong: greed and entitlement. We idolize people who do not deserve to be idolized. My parents had Kennedy, we have the Kardahians.

I love this! I have only watched this show a few times, and I didn't like it. I had company for a couple of weeks, who watch it religiously, or they used to. The ridiculous divorce I think changed their minds.

The first episode I saw, was when they were on holidays in Tahiti, I think. Kim lost her $10,000 ring, or how ever much it cost, when she was and she was bawling...sickening.
