The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns Movie Review

Updated on August 26, 2014

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns

A Love Story With A Fairy and A Leprechaun.

A romantic comedy set in Ireland, The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns stars Randy Quaid, Whoopi Goldberg, Roger Daltrey, Colm Meaney and Kieran Culkin. It is a perfect choice for those looking for a St. Patrick’s Day movie.

The storyline? Well in this leprechaun movie, you travel to Ireland with an American businessman, rent a cottage and discover that it is inhabited by…fairies. Think Romeo and Juliet but instead of two warring families, insert two warring groups, fairies and leprechauns. This is Ireland, after all, the land of tales, myths and magic. Add the love story of a fairy princess and a teenage leprechaun...and you have the makings of a very romantic movie. Add Whoopi Goldberg and it becomes a romantic comedy.

Particular highlights of this fairy tale are the Ireland scenery and the enchanting Irish musical score, both of which will likely cause you to fall in love with Ireland. It is a fairy tale so if you are unable to suspend your disbelief and accept it as a fairy tale, you might not enjoy this movie. However, if you enjoy fantasy movies and fairy tales, this is quite an enjoyable film.

A Hallmark Entertainment made-for-television movie, The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns originally aired on television in 1999. It is now available on DVD for your personal collection and for your entire family’s viewing from Amazon. Order it now and you will have it in plenty of time for St. Patrick’s Day this year.
