He was born in Beirut, Lebanon and moved to Hawaii and New York before settling in Toronto. His parents divorced when he was young. He lost contact with his father. His mother was married and divorced several times. She was a costume designer and a stripper.

He had a difficult time in school – mostly because he is dyslexic. He dropped out of high school to go into acting. He has been quoted as saying he is dumb.

He was set to get married and have a child. His daughter was stillborn right before her delivery date. Soon after, his fiancé was killed in a car accident. His best friend died from a drug overdose. Another good friend died from cancer. His little sister had leukemia.

Most people with this kind of life would give up. Instead, this man became a star. He was named one of People Magazines 50 Sexiest people. He has made some of the top grossing stars in Hollywood. He is loved by many.

Who is this person? It is Keanu Reeves, star of movies such as Speed, The Matrix, A Walk in the Clouds, and of course, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures.

Although Keanu had a tough life, he has made the best of it. He may not be the most talented actor in the business, but people enjoy watching his movies. He is a very likable person and that shows when he is on screen. Listed below are some of his most memorable movies.

1989 - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Reeves plays Ted Logan, friend to Bill. They are in a band together called “Wyld Stallyns.” They are failing at school. They need to do a presentation on something historical and it is due soon. If they don’t get a passing grade, Ted’s father will send him to military school. With the help of a mysterious time traveler, Rufus, and a time machine – the boys travel through history to gather historical figures for their report. The movie is hilarious, and you can actually learn a little history from it if you listen really carefully.

The movie also spun an animated television series in which Reeves recreated the voice from his character from the movie.

1991 - Point Break

In this movie, Reeves plays Johnny Utah, a detective sent out to look for bank robbers who wear presidential masks. Johnny’s partner, played by Gary Busey (before his motorcycle accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury) has a theory that the bank robbers might be surfers who rob banks to fund their carefree lifestyle. On the way he meets a surfer named Bodhi, played by Patrick Swayze. Johnny becomes enamored by the surfer’s lifestyle and gets drawn into it.

This movie is action-packed and can keep you on your toes while watching. Keanu Reeves met Patrick Swayze during this movie and the two became close friends. Keanu says about his late friend, “I'll always remember his buddy for lighting up a room with his presence. I can say what I know that he lived life to the fullest.”

1999 - The Matrix

If you haven’t at least heard of this movie, you have probably been living under a rock. This movie and its sequels made millions at the box office and introduced Reeves to yet another audience. In this movie he plays Neo, a computer programmer by day and computer hacker by night. When he meets Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne, he discovers that there is a different reality that he needs to help save. This movie spawned two sequels, and many spoofs.

2001 - Hard Ball

A young nobody with gambling debts agrees to coach a team of little league baseball players in order to get a loan. He expects to just do the minimum and just show up and watch the kids practice and play. What he doesn’t expect is that he gets to know and love the kids on the team. They inspire him to want to become a better person. This movie has its sad moments so make sure you have a box of tissues handy!

2006 - The Lake House

A romantic movie with a twist. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock team up again, this time as a couple who fall in love through a series of letters. Reeves plays an architect who occupies the house that Bullock once lived in. They exchange letters through the mailbox – and don’t meet until they can figure out the mystery of the Lake House. A very nice, romantic movie that is not like all the others.

2008 - The Day the Earth Stood Still

This remake of a of a 1950’s science fiction movie has Reeves playing an alien and a robot who come to Earth in order to save it. When Dr. Benson, played by Jennifer Connelly, discovers that he wants to save the world, she wants to help him escape from the military who is holding him captive. But when she discovers how he intends to save the Earth, she regrets her decision.

2013 - 47 Ronin

This movie has not yet been released. It is about a group of samurai soldiers who want to avenge the death of their master. I am sure that it will be as good as his other movies!

I know I have left out many of Reeves’ movies. There are too many to list. This list represents many of those that I have personally seen. After reading and researching about Keanu Reeves I have gained much more respect for him as an actor – and as a person.
