The Real Ghostbusters - My favourite cartoon

When I was in primary school, there were a lot of great cartoons on TV. We had ThunderCats, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Masters of the Universe and Bucky O'Hare to name just a few, but out of all of these classics, my favourite was easily Ghostbusters, a show about four men who fight ghosts and other paranormal activity in New York and around the world. On this hub I will explain why I loved the show so much and how to find some great items for sale on Amazon and eBay.

Who were the Ghostbusters?

The Ghostbusters are (from left to right in the picture) Winston Zeddemore, Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler and Ray Stantz, along with their secretary Janine and the green ghost, Slimer.
The series ran from 1986 to 1991 and is based upon the 1984 movie of the same name.

Ghosts

I was really into ghosts when I was younger, and I think this was one of the main reasons why Ghostbusters became my favourite cartoon. I loved the idea of running around zapping ghosts and monsters with a proton pack and although I never had the official toy equipment, I did make my own Ghost trap out of a shoe box, some string and a yogurt pot, which I used to death.

I also enjoyed the antics of Slimer, who is much friendlier in the cartoon than in the movie and now lives with the Ghostbusters. He's constantly roaming around stealing food and leaving green slime wherever he goes.

Ghostbusters toys

I had a cupboard full of Ghostbusters toys when I was younger and most of them are still kept in my loft. I still remember vividly coming downstairs one Christmas morning to see a Ghostbusters' building sized parcel in my present pile. I was so excited, although my mum quickly confiscated the Ectoplasm that came with it!
I had a lot of figures of Peter, Egon, Ray and Winston themselves, along with several vehicles and ghosts. One of my favourites was a postman who, when you pushed down his head, became a monster with eyes coming from his shirt pockets and his tie became his nose.

The Ghostbusters range of toys was massive when I was younger. You could the main characters in many different forms. For example, I had some called 'Backpack heroes' who has a backpack which could also be used as a weapon or vehicle. I also had some screaming characters who would pull a screaming face if you squashed their arm in.
You can still get many of these original toys on eBay.
