Oakvale: The Separation

Updated on March 3, 2012

This was the first song I wrote lyrics for. The title of the song was originally just a space holder (our bassist gives names to all of his projects but he doesn't mean them as the intention for the song, e.g. a love song named le ice cream shoppe <had nothing to do with an ice cream shop>) This title, however, was the basis for what I wrote the song for, because I wasn't aware of this fact so I used it as a path for writing.

"The Separation" was the song that I wrote after my first breakup. I'll say it again, "oh no! One of those!" I don't do it very often but the feelings that I had needed to find release and writing this song was perfect. It is a song about separation.

(Intro)
I could not believe it
It had happened to me
This feeling from within
This feeling should be sin

(Intro Cont'd)
I gazed at your face
Deep into your eyes
You looked back at me
I then knew your lies
(x2)

(1st Verse)
(Should've known) -harmony
By the way you faltered
(Should've known)
By the way you fled
(Should've known)
Kept going back to you now
(Should've known)
You're still in my head

(1st Verse Cont'd)
(Should've known)
Your smile did not linger
(Should've known)
I knew something wasn't right
(Should've known)
Refused to hold me closer
(Should've known)
Get out of my life

(2nd Verse)
(Should've grown)
When you faltered
(Should've grown)
After you fled
(Should've grown)
Kept coming back to me now
(Should've grown)
You're still in my head

Should've grown
(x4)

(Chorus)
Now's the moment that I test my pride
Crawl back to you or stay alone inside
I feel so confused what's wrong with me
Is it just you or some Divine Comedy

(Bridge)
What we had then, will never be again
Parts of me wish it, but I've learned my lesson
From here on out we go our separate ways
You've lost something good here so have a nice day

(Chorus)
Now's the moment that I test my pride
Crawl back to you or stay alone inside
I feel so confused what's wrong with me
Is it just you or some Divine Comedy

(Breakdown)
My emotions have become undone
What could compel you, to be so dumb
All of you listening, please understand
And be prepared to lose a friend
(Buildup)
Now it's over
We're no longer
I am through with this game this hunger
Please let me be
Please let me be, release me from your grasp
I just want, to finally be free

(Chorus)
Now's the moment that I test my pride
Crawl back to you or stay alone inside
I feel so confused what's wrong with me
Is it just you or some Divine Comedy
(x2)

Tough on the Voice

It's by far the longest song we have, reaching almost 8 minutes. It's also very taxing on me as a singer cause I didn't realize that singing that many words would be so difficult. However, I kept every letter I wrote and it's original because of it. I sing this song and I think about every separation, every break up and I realize that it's the truth. This was the only song I ever sang that gave me goosebumps. Sometimes you'll hear an inspirational song or watch an intense scene in a movie or you'll get to the climax of a book and you'll get chills? I do. This song did that for me after my second relationship ended. It was such an intense feeling that I came to the conclusion that I have to share this song with people. Musically, lyrically, doesn't matter. I had to share. So there it is. Hope you enjoyed and many more will be coming out.
