Tiffany Young US Debut -- How is the Former SNSD K-Pop Idol Promoting for the American Music Industry?
It has been about a year since Stephanie Hwang, better known as Tiffany of the iconic K-pop girl group So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD) whom are better known internationally as Girls' Generation, left the Korean music industry.
At that time, Tiffany made it known she wanted to pursue a musical career in the American music industry. Needless to say but it was a good time for her to make the jump as more Asians were being featured in American entertainment and it seemed her previous agency, SM Entertainment, wasn't utilizing her anymore after her Japanese flag scandal.
Well fans are finally being rewarded for their patience as Tiffany Hwang has finally made her American music industry debut under a new stage name, Tiffany Young, with the song "Over My Skin." Those who followed her throughout her career are already showing much love. To be frank though, she is now in a music industry in which a lot of people may not know of her previous work. So what is Tiffany doing to get her name out there?
Apparently, Tiffany Young is doing a lot. Here is a list of all she's done in promoting herself in the American music industry.
Talking to the fans as a straight-shooter... or with puppies.
Prior to "Over My Skin" releasing, many news outlets reported on Tiffany Young, giving details about her life and career for American audiences who may not know about her K-pop idol days. However, the more engaging promotions are easily on YouTube via entertaining video clips averaging around five minutes long. On BuzzFeed Celeb, they have a series in which popular people answer fan questions while playing with puppies. About three weeks ago, Tiffany Young participated in the series in her own video.
Fan questions range from professional to personal. An example of the latter is easily the first question she was asked in which fans inquired what her favorite Girls' Generation era (Party) and song ("Into the New World") are. As for the latter, she was asked what superhero power would she like to have (mind control).
The aforementioned isn't the only question-and-answer video Tiffany Young has done. As a matter of fact, she's done numerous ones as part of her promotions. Through AskAnythingChat, she answered numerous fan questions about her life, career, and K-pop. It was even more personal as questions seemed to be from fans instead of just general questions any question-and-answer interview would provide.
BTS with Tiffany Young!
In K-pop, BTS is a very popular boy band that is dominating the international scene. In the American music industry, BTS is an abbreviation for "behind the scenes." With Tiffany Young, she's been utilizing said BTS to show off tidbits of "Over My Skin."
Through choreographer Yanis Marshall on his YouTube channel, we get to see the dance rehearsal for "Over My Skin." The dance will most likely be only used for the music video and possibly for any musical tours in the future. Tiffany Young is not working in the Korean music industry anymore so she doens't have to be overly exhausted performing this same dance over and over again on music competition shows such as M! Countdown, Inkigayo, or Music Bank.
Covering a recent Disney classic!
If there are any songs in the American music industry, or should I say music in general, that is iconic, that last through the generations in any country or in any language, they are easily songs by Disney. Though the titles might be translated for one's particular country, almost everyone knows songs like "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid, "Beauty and the Beast" from Beauty and the Beast, "A Whole New World" from Aladdin, and "Circle of Life" from The Lion King. If you want to go more recent, then "Let It Go" from Frozen would definitely be on top of the list.
However, the latest song from Disney, or any of its properties, that has made a huge impact was "Remember Me" from Disney Pixar film Coco. It has become iconic among other songs from Disney Pixar such as "You Got a Friend In Me" from the Toy Story Series or "Touch the Sky" from Brave. When it first came out, it became an instant hit. "Remember Me" had that bit of emotion that truly touched your soul. It is also the song that revealed exactly why the movie was titled Coco.
Eventually, Tiffany Young would do her own cover of the song. Thankfully, she stayed tried and true to the movie version which is tantamount more popular than the official pop version. Many people will always remember "Remember Me" as a very emotional and sad song, not a upbeat and happy song. That is probably why the popularity of Tiffany's cover is actually over that of the official song set by Disney featuring Miguel despite the fact it was kind of limited and short.
What else do we have to look forward to from Tiffany Young?
The aforementioned promotional videos are just the beginning for Tiffany Young. Given her work ethic being a part of a K-pop idol girl group for over a decade, she will continue to work hard to make it here in the U.S. It is only a matter of time until we hear brand new music from her.
Right now, Tiffany Young is busy constantly promoting "Over My Skin." With the official music video being released recently, she'll be pushing that as her top priority.
