Kajol is an Indian Actress known for her outstanding performance in Movies. She is also known for her on screen chemistry with actor Shahrukh Khan with whom she gave 6 super hit movies. She is one of the best actresses of the industry and has won several Awards including the Padma Shri in 2011, from the Government of India for her contribution to Indian Cinema. She was also the first Indian actress to win an Award for performance in Negative role.

Born on 5^th August 1974 to actress Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee in Mumbai, she made her Bollywood debut at the age of 17 in a film called Bekhudi (1992). Though this picture was a Box office failure, the performance of the actress was appreciated. Kajol is a fourth generation actress (Her mother Tanuja, maternal aunt Nutan, maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth and maternal great grandmother Rattan Bai were actresses). Kajol’s sister Tanisha and cousins Mohnish Behl (Nutan’s son) and Rani Mukherjee are also part of the film world. Kajol’s father late Shomu Mukherjee was a noted film producer.

Kajol married Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan on February 24, 1999. The couple has two children, a daughter named Nysa (born in 2003) and a son named Yug (born in 2010). Kajol Devgn is a good friend of Karan Johar and appeared on the first episode of Koffee with Karan along with Shahrukh Khan. She also won 1 crore rupees along with her husband Ajay Devgan on Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan which was donated to a cancer hospital in Chennai in the year 2005.

Baazigar was Shilpa Shetty’s debut film. It was also the film which Shahrukh Khan was paired opposite Kajol and also the first film where he played a negative role. This film was directed by Abbas-Mustan and Produced by Ganesh Jain. This film also had Rakhee, Dalip Tahil, Siddharth Ray, Johnny Lever and Anant Mahadevan in important role.

In Karan Arjun, Kajol played the role of Sonia Saxena who is in love with Vijay (played by Shahrukh Khan). Vijay is the re-incarnation of Ajay who was killed by Durjan Singh (played by Amrish Puri) who is the father of of Suraj (Aashif Sheikh) whom Sonia is supposed to marry. This movie was Directed by Aditya Chopra and Produced by Yash Chopra of Yash Raj films. Kajol won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (1995) for her performance in the film. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) holds the record of the longest running film in any theater. It played for over 600 weeks [more than 11 years] at the Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai, creating a world record.

The role of Anjali won Kajol the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in1998. This movie was a box-office hit and won several awards. It also had many melodious songs. The upcoming Computer-animated Bollywood film Koochie Koochie Hota Hai is a remake of the original. This remake is directed by Vishal Sonawane and Tarun Mansukhani. The film is co-produced by Dharma Productions and Prana Studios.

In Kabhi Khushie Kabhi Gham, Kajol played the role of Anjali, a typical Indian housewife who values Indian culture and traditions even though she lives in London with her husband Rahul (played by Shahrukh Khan). This Movie was directed by Karan Johar and produced by Yash Johar. This multi starer film also has Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Alok Nath, Johnny Lever, Shashikala and Farida Jalal. In Fanaa, Kajol played the role of a Kashmiri blind girl named Zooni Ali Beg who falls in love with Rehan (played by Aamir Khan) who the terrorist. This film was directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra. The film was the comeback film of Kajol after her marriage. Kajol’s role in the film earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 2006 and Zee Cine Award for Best Actress in 2007. The supporting cast of the film are Rishi Kapoor, Kiron Kher, Sharat Saxena and Tabu. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon actress Sanaya Irani is also seen in a small role in the film.

In My Name Is Khan, Kajol played the role of Mandira, a Hindu Woman who marries a Muslim Guy (Rizwan Khan played by Shahrukh Khan). The film was directed by Karan Johar and produced by Hiroo Johar and Gauri Khan. Kajol’s character in this film earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actor In A Leading Role - Female in the year 2011. The film also stars Jimmy Shergill, Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Parvin Dabas and Christopher B. Duncan.

My Name Is Khan was a huge success not only in India but in the overseas markets as well. The music of the film also was a huge hit.

In Dushman, Kajol played the role of twins, the crop-haired Sonia Sehgal and the long-haired Naina Sehgal. She played the roles of two different identities for the twins who are different from each other in perfect ease. While the outgoing twin Sonia is raped and killed by Gokul Pandit (played by Ashutosh Rana), her shy twin Naina with the help of her love Suraj (played by Sanjay Dutt), kills the rapist. Dushman is directed by Tanuja Chandra and Produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt. Kajol won the Screen Award for Best Actress in the year 1999 for her performance in the film.

Dushman was a Box office success and won several awards. The villain of the film Ashutosh Rana bagged two awards – Filmfare Award for Best Performance in Negative Role and Star Screen Award for Best villain.

In Gupt, Kajol played the role of Isha Diwan who is in love with Sahil Sinha (Bobby Deol)who is accused of his stepfather’s murder. In this movie, Kajol plays a negative character. The Director of this movie is Rajiv Rai and the Producers are Gulshan Rai and Rajiv Rai. Kajol won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance In Negative Role in 1997 for her performance in Gupt. This film also stars Manisha Koirala, Raj Babbar, Paresh Rawal, Priya Tendulkar, Dalip Tahil, Om Puri and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
