Top 7 Most Inspirational Movies Of All Time
While there are many movies out there, some movies are highly inspirational, you just don't want to forget about it. These movies are brilliantly made, I would willingly watch them on repeat if I just have the time.
Picking a few is kinda hard, but I did try my best to pick out the best for the top seven most inspirational movies of all time:
1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. Forrest Gump
3. The Pursuit of Happyness
4. 3 Idiots
5. The Green Mile
6. Slumdog Millionaire
7. Freedom Writers
1. The Shawshank Redemption
The first on the list. The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
It tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne, who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murder of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the following two decades, he befriends a fellow prisoner, contraband smuggler Ellis "Red" Redding. Dufresne became involved then in a money laundering operation led by the prison warden Samuel Norton.
“Get busy living or get busy dying.”
— Andy DufresneI literally cried after watching this movie. I bawled my eyes out not because this is a tear-jerker film with dramatic music in the background, but because this movie is so good. I cried for how beautiful the message this movie wanted to express. I cried because I felt inspired, motivated, and grateful for the life that I am having. I just want to tattoo this movie in my mind and remember it's message whenever I feel hopeless. You will feel simply grateful, with the question "Am I giving my best while living?".
The cinematography and performances of both the lead actors make this movie extra special. I highly recommend everyone to watch this masterpiece.
2. Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is a 1994 American film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. It follows the story of Forrest Gump, a man with a low IQ of 75 but a kind-hearted man. His 'mama' teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. He witnesses and, unwittingly, influences several defining historical events in the 20th century of the United States. This movie won't just fit into one genre - you can be laughing and then crying the next moment.
My mama always said ‘Life is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re gonna get.’
— Forrest GumpAlthough this movie was released in 1994, this movie can still have the same emotional impact with today's time. Aside from depicting the everyday drama in real life that anyone can relate to, this movie teaches us the greatest lesson - we can always succeed if we believe in ourselves.
This is the movie that encourages me to be anyone I wanna be, despite facing disappointments from other people. Forrest is such a role model and an inspiration for showing that no matter what situation you are in life, it always pays to be kind.
Despite having a great name already in the industry, Tom Hanks' portrayal of Forrest is brilliant that you will never get tired of watching this movie again and again.
3. The Pursuit of Happyness
The Pursuit of Happyness is a 2006 American biographical drama film based on entrepreneur Chris Gardner's nearly one-year struggle being homeless. Will Smith is depicted as Gardner, a homeless salesman. His son Jaden Smith is also featured as Gardner's son, Christopher Jr.
The unusual spelling of the film's title comes from a mural that Gardner sees on the wall outside the daycare facility his son attends.
“The future was uncertain, absolutely, and there were many hurdles, twists, and turns to come, but as long as I kept moving forward, one foot in front of the other, the voices of fear and shame, the messages from those who wanted me to believe that I wasn't good enough, would be stilled.”
— Chris GardnerThis is a heartwarming movie. The struggle and desperation illustrated in the movie, along with Gardner's sacrifices will undoubtedly move your heart. He fought for his dreams, he fought for his loved ones, he fought for himself. The most moving fact about this film is that it is actually based on Gardner's true to life story.
Will Smith will leave you in awe with his performance. Better have some napkins close to you while watching this movie.
4. 3 Idiots
3 Idiots is a 2009 Indian comedy-drama film. The film follows the friendship of three students at an Indian engineering college and is a satire about the social pressures under an Indian education system. It narrates the story through parallel drama, one in the present and the other ten years in the past.
3 Idiots is a Bollywood gem.
Pursue for excellence, success will chase you.
— Rancho
Now, of all the movies in this list - this one is the most entertaining. You will laugh out loud, dance along, feel the romantic excitement, and then the next moment, you are crying! This movie is an adventure! It is a ride just like the journey called life. Now, don't get me wrong, this movie is not all about comedy, but it is a gem that also talks deeply about the dark sides of life.
The good thing about this movie is that it keeps its good atmosphere while expressing the harsh realities of life and how to cope up with the struggles. This film portrays the importance of friendship, education, and pursuing one's dreams.
'All is well' with this film.
5. The Green Mile
The Green Mile is a 1999 American fantasy crime drama film adapted from Stephen King’s 1996 novel of the same name.
The film is told in a flashback format. It tells the story of Paul's life as a death row corrections officer during the U.S. Great Depression, and the supernatural events he witnessed there.
And I think about all of us walking our own green mile... ...each in our own time.
— Paul Edgecomb (elderly)Another inspiring film of Tom Hanks. My heart hurts after seeing this movie. Comparing the Green Mile with the ride of ours called life along with its cruelty and sadness - this film presents the sad truth about reality. However, this film is inspiring in a way that no matter how dark the Green Mile is, there will always be a miracle - a miracle to give us hope and urges us to go on.
This is a long movie but it will be worth it. This movie is not only inspirational but also tackles sensitive topics such as passing judgment on other people, morality and emphasizing the values that are important for living an effective life.
6. Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film that is a loose adaptation of the novel Q & A by Indian author Vikas Swarup.
It tells the story of Jamal Malik portrayed as a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. Malik surprises everyone by being able to answer every question correctly. As Jamal is accused of cheating, he recounts his life story to the police, illustrating how he is able to answer each question correctly.
Jamal:
Run away with me.
Latika:
And live on what?
Jamal:
Love...
This movie is brilliant. Its a life celebration - presenting life's difficulties and turning them into disguised blessings. I was speechless after watching this movie. It just pulls you until the end and makes you believe that sometimes, you just gotta believe and make your own destiny. Here is a man, who faced many tragedies in life, learned many lessons, lost many precious things in life, but still - doesn't lie and believes in the power of love.
This film presents reality in a way that there is really no easy way towards success. Life is full of cheaters but what's good about it? It's love in your own heart. This movie presents victory in a way that you can't imagine.
7. Freedom Writers
Freedom Writers is a 2007 drama film. It is based on the book The Freedom Writers Diary by teacher Erin Gruwell and students who compiled the book out of real diary entries about their lives that they wrote in their English class at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California.
"We are all ordinary people. But even an ordinary secretary, or a housewife, or a teenager can within their own small ways turn on a small light in a dark room."
— Miep Gies on The Freedom WritersFreedom Writers is a film that inspires people to raise their voice. It is a film of a group of courageous people leaning on to each other for support and power. This film inspires me to open up, to begin to trust other people no matter how scary it is. It just tells us that no one is alone and that when together - we are stronger. I love this film for how the message is being laid out. The courage to ask someone to open up, and the courage to open oneself - this film is a movement itself.
Conclusion
These are just some of the great movies that you can watch anytime you need a dose of inspiration. Happy watching and get inspired everyday!
