If you’ve been listening to the Coldplay for a very long time, you’re surely familiar of their guitar-oriented and heart-wrenching rock songs. Coldplay had been on my playlist for years, and I started “fangirling” of the band when I had the chance to hear their song, Fix You. Currently, the band has an ongoing tour in Asia, Europe and in the U.S. labelled as “A Head Full of Dreams”. I have my personal top 5 songs from the band which are listed below. Before getting down to the list, here’s a brief biography of the band.

Coldplay: Initium

The formation of the band started when Chris Martin met Will Champion, Guy Berryman, and Johny Buckman at UCL (University College London) in 1996.

The band was originally named “Pectoralz”, was later evolved to “Starfish before finally deciding to use the name “Coldplay”.

Highlights of Coldplay’s Career

Parachutes (2000) was their first debut album that officially launches their international music career as an alternative rock band. One of its track, Shiver was well-received by the rock scene in the U.K. that eventually made it to no. top 40 on the U.K single charts. The release of the song Yellow, under the same album, was a certified hit and topped in the U.K charts and U.S. Billboard. Overall, the band’s album was a huge success in garnering awards as Best British Album Award in February of 2001 and Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards for the following year.

The success of the Coldplay’s first album was no beginner’s luck. It was followed by another tremendous success of their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, was hailed as Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards in 2003.

Coldplay continued to reap success with their high grossing albums, “X and Y” in (2005). The band sustained to remain in the limelight by constantly having high-profile shows through creating quality songs with a captivating, sometimes emotionally stirring lyrics and melody.
