The Early Years

Tyler Lee Hoechlin was born on September 11, 1987 in Corona California. Tyler has two brothers named Tanner and Travis and one sister named Carrie. Tyler's career at a very early age when he beat out over 2,000 actors to play the role as Tom Hanks's son in the movie Road to Perdition in 2002. After landing the coveted role of Hanks's son, Hoechlin went on to star on the television series 7th Heaven from 2003-2007. Tyler played the role of Martin Brewer on 62 episodes on the highly successful series. After his run on 7th Heaven he had bit parts on single episodes of CSI:Miami, Lincoln Heights, My Boys, and Castle.

Landing the Role of a Lifetime

Even though Tyler had previously starred in a highly successful movie with Tom Hanks and had a long four year run on a popular television series, Hoechlin was still not a household name. It wasn't until 2011, that Tyler finally landed a role that would begin to change his life and make him more recognizable to the American public.

In 2011 he won the role of Derek Hale on the teenage MTV series Teen Wolf. The television series became a giant hit for the MTV channel and shot Hoechlin's superstar status higher into the stratosphere. Tyler plays the part of a werewolf who helps guide the main character of the series Scott McCall. The series has been successfully running since 2011 and continues to run today.

You may have spotted Hoechlin in other places other than his MTV supernatural hit television series and his role with Tom Hanks. Tyler has starred in a few smaller box office grossing movies that you may recognize him from. If you are a fan of Tyler's you can find him in Family Tree, Train Quest, Grizzly Range, Solstice, Open Gate, Hall Pass, Melvin Smarty, and Undrafted.
