What do I love about GIRLS?
GIRLS is the kind of series title everyone hears and thinks immediately about fashion or girlie girls having an easy and careless life in a huge cosmopolitan city as New York. I do not judge, I was one of the people who thought the same when one of my friends talked me about this show. At that moment, I did not know it was much more than that.
The first thing I loved was the image and perception the series presents about the city. A city of which I thought was only about glamour and successful people and GIRLS show me a bit more of its reality. A city in which young people can be homeless, in which you have to work hard to make your dreams come true and a city in which different worlds collide and at the same time are far away from each other.
I also adored the music. I am always fascinated about how music can change a scene in a movie and how it can provoke feelings and sensations. Every time I finished an episode I found myself checking the songs of it in order to make a list to get them later. I still have those songs on my favorite playlists.
"Enjoy going through life as yourself."
— MarnieWhat I loved the most about GIRLS is that it is a series about strong and powerful women who are very different in life due to their backgrounds and experiences. Each character shows a different angle and perspective of life, but at the end, they are united by friendship and true love. I love the synergy they have and how well they know each other.
In fact, it makes me think about my own group of friends. The goofy Shoshana with a kind soul able to drive everyone crazy with all her questions and life analysis. The careless and wild Jessa who wants to seem fierceless but who deeply wants to be happy and to be understood. The girl like Marnie with all her dreams and goals who is beaten in life but always tries to take the curse of it and the last but not the least, the drama queen, Hanna. That girl who needs attention and to be cared by others. The girl who you sometimes hate but most of the time you love because she is the type of friend who will be there for you no matter what. Who will travel several hours to pick you up when you are in the middle of nowhere.
I always wonder about what type of GIRLS' girl I am and I used to get confused about it but I finally discovered I am all of them. Each of us is all of them because we have a tiny piece of a Hanna, a Jessa, a Shoshana and a Marnie. Maybe a bit more than one of them than other but that is what makes us unique. What makes us GIRLS.
