What we know for the Suicide Squad after the new trailer.

Updated on January 30, 2016

The action-packed trailer for the Suicide Squad movie was relesed on january 19th and it took us by storm. It revealed new scenes, new characters, and some easter eggs and comic book nods that some of us might have missed. The film will be released August 5, 2016 which seems so far away, so i think it's time to talk a bit about it.

The film is a continuation of DC cinematic universe which started in 2013 with Man of Steel and it will be preceded by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Suicide Squad seems as if it has taken a quite different road than Man of Steel, packed with action and a lot of hard-hitting humor.

Basic characters!!

Left to right :

  1. El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) He is a former Los Angeles gang member who can control flames.
  2. Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) He is a metahuman cannibal originating from Gotham City, with a rare skin disease, which gives his skin a grey, scaly appearance.
  3. Deadshot (Will Smith) He is a human assassin with expert marksmanship. He has a nearly superhuman precision in any level of physical performance and aim, often being described as being the 'worlds best marksman'.
  4. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) Formerly a skilled psychologist at the infamous Arkham Asylum in Gotham City, she later became a psychotic and deranged villain. She was the girlfriend and accomplice of the Joker.
  5. Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) He is a American in the United States Armed Forces. He was recruited by Amanda Waller to lead the Suicide Squad alongside a team of Navy SEALS.
  6. Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) She is a powerful metahuman sorceress. An ancient feral being possessed her and granted her magical powers, albeit with a mentally unstable mind.
  7. Katana (Karen Fukuhara) She is an assassin originating from Japan, she is a master of swordplay and martial arts, trained to the highest level in the ancient art form.
  8. Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) He is an Australian assassin that specializes in using a wide variety of bladed and trick boomerangs as weapons of choice.
  9. Slipknot (Adam Beach) He is a assassin for hire who specializes in killing with extremely durable ropes.

A secret government agency run by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), recruits some of the deadliest (and craziest) villains to assemble a team, the "Suicide Squad". They are assigned to execute dangerous missions in exchange for clemency.

It looks like everything starts when Amanda Waller assigns the "team" a very dangerous mission, having in mind that if anything goes wrong she can blame them, since they are the bad guys. So we meet the imprisoned supervillains that have to become a team to face a big threat. Seven villains, Rick Flag which was recruited by Amanda Waller to lead them and Katana who volunteers as Rick Flag's personal bodyguard. It seems like the big threat they have to face is posed by a very well known individual. The Joker (Jared Leto) seems to be the man behind it all, they will probably have to face a number of threats but Joker would be the main one.

A little background on The Joker, he is a psychopath based in Gotham City. Joker has a colorful personality, and he is completely unpredictable, with no regard for human life.

Background stories and Easter eggs.

We can also tell from the trailers that we are going to have the background of some of the characters which is always fun! Enchantress, Harley Quinn and Deadshot!

  • June Moone aka Enchantress, is a powerful sorcerer. As a young thrill-seeking June found a cave within which lay an ancient spirit, who possessed June and granted her magical powers.

  • Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn, was a skilled psychologist that worked at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City. One of her patients was the Joker which took a shine to Harleen and when he broke out of his cell, he and his men stormed Harleen's office, tying her down and shocking her with shock therapy equipment to send her just as insane as the Joker.

  • Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot, was in the US Special Forces but he left and became a hired assassin because of his suicidal death wish. Despite his job he tries very hard to protect his daughter Zoe Lawton, the only thing he truly cares about. After becoming an assassin, Batman manages to capture Lawton and put him in jail.

Except from the big clues we get from the trailers we can also spot some easter eggs and comic book nods that most viewers probably missed.

  • In the movie we will see Joker's henchman Jonny Frost he is played by Jim Parrack

  • Some of the action is set in the fictional Midway City which is most famous for being the home of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Could they be in the movie?

  • Katana's blade is the Soultaker Sword. It steals the essence of those it slays and stores them inside.

  • We are going to see Batman in the movie!!! In what it seems to be a flashback of Harley Quinn with the Joker in Gotham City.

Those were just some of the most important details that were revealed, i'm sure there are more. I can't wait for that movie, i think it is going to be the best DC movie yet.I love Harley Quinn and Margot Robbie is a great actress, but i'm still not so sure about The Joker even though Jared Leto is a great actor too. But what you guys think? There are many people saying that its going to be a disaster and just over the top, i certainly hope that is not the case, but we have to wait to find out 'till August 5th.

What do you think about the movie from what you've seen so far ?
