Whitney Houston: My Top 4 Favorite Motivation Songs
Whitney Houston was undoubtedly one of the greatest female singers from the past three decades. I remember listening to her sing at a very young age. I tried to dance like her in her videos, she was amazing. I was shocked to hear the news that she had passed on February 11, 2012. It was already a sad day for me, but the news of Whitney's death was not something I expected to hear. I still can't believe it.
In remembrance of Whitney, I pulled out my Whitney Houston music... I thought I had more, but oh well...I started listening to the CD's and could not believe how many songs I remembered!
Here is alist of my top four favorite motivational songs:
"Try It On My Own"- This is from the 'Just Whitney' album. It's a powerful song when you listen to the words. She is saying that she has been living her life the way someone else has wanted her to, but now she is ready to stand up and do it on her own. She doesn't care if she messes up, she's going to do it anyway.
"Tell Me No"- If you ever had someone that always told you that you couldn't do something, this song expresses how to use that negativity to prove them wrong and get it done. You said no, but look at this! Love it!
"I'm Every Woman"- This is a remake of Chaka Khan's song, but she owns this version. I'm Every Woman is a strong song because it let's us know that we are capable and can be anything from A to Z. Back in the day when I used to model, this was definitely played for our fashion shows.
"Greatest Love of All"- I was in elementary school when this song was introduced. I had to learn the words for a part in our school program. This is my favorite part of the song:
I decided long ago
never to walk in anyone's shadow.
If I failed, if I succeed,
at least I'd lived as I believed.
No matter what they take from me,
they can't take away my dignity...
Whitney Houston has left us with songs that touch every area of our lives. These are just the top four of my favorite motivational songs.
