Why Katniss Everdeen is among the most believable and effective, movie heroines.

Updated on August 5, 2015

Like a comic book character, she shoots through evil to save the innocent.

The Hunger Games has seen a heroine rise. What do you think of her?

She is thoughtful, considerate, and brave. Katniss is an example of someone who is afraid but stands up for the ones she loves. She was obviously afraid of the President and his regime of soldiers, but did what she had to do to save her sister from entering The Hunger Games and join the rebellion herself.

Her love for her people, her friends, and her family drove her on when she felt that she couldn't go on. She never let the threats, lies and deception stop her. She was also smart and stuck to her greatest strength- archery. Katniss also let her friends help and made alliances quickly. That was one of the keys to her success.

Of course the author and the the movie producers made her very likable. While the country fell in love with her, they fell for Jennifer Lawrence also.

how does she compare to other heroines?

Katniss is a nice girl who does what she needs to and seems to really care about the people around her. She cried often and felt her people's pain.

Many other leading ladies however, are more about attacking the evil forces that stand in their way. Please read my profile on Joan of Arc, Salt, Super Girl and one of the most popular ever, Ripley.

Super Girl

She was a lot like Katniss as far as their personalities are concerned. Instead of just kicking butt, there was compasion and helping with little things as well. It is too bad that the movie and shows always seem to stink when it comes to Super Girl!

Joan of Arc

The Herione for God. Joan lead her people in war against tyranical forces and was as pure as the driven snow, ever since she was a little girl. She died for her faith and her people, when no one else would stand up.What made her a Saint? It was her courage and selflessness that set her apart.

Salt

She was a special agant that just kicked butt and took names later...no questions asked!

The one and only Ripley!

Ripley was a mixture of all of these personalities. She cared about others, but was also driven by self preservation. She was obsessed with the destruction of the beast ever since the first time she saw it.
