Why does it happen to me?

Updated on August 19, 2009

I Know there are people going through lots of things in life and they ask “why me?” but this is just a light-hearted article.

  1. Why is it that when I am running late for work and I am driving, all the Traffic Lights turn red when I’m approaching but on a Saturday, when I have all the time in the world to get to my destination, all the lights happily stay green?
  2. Why is it that when I sit down infront of the TV to have a lovely, delicious meal, with a nice glass of wine that they show an advert of a product that cleans toilets with images of the toilet etc or someone having an operation. (Honest, it happens to me a lot – I should just sit at the Dining table)
  3. Lots of people can relate to this. You wait for one bus for about 20 minutes and when it eventually arrives, about 3 of them (same number) arrive at the same time.
  4. Why is it that when I have no money and go Window Shopping, I see so many suitable things I could buy, but when I have a lot of cash on me I can’t even find one dress or anything that suits my taste.
  5. I’m a Lecturer and stick to the lesson times, but the one day out of the whoooole academic year that I allow my students to leave class about 25 minutes early, My manager comes down to pass on an important message to me. He looks at the empty chairs and I know what he’s thinking. I look at him and smile politely but inside me I'm thinking "Oh Sugar"! Why me?
  6. Why is it that when I meet a gorgeous, handsome well-mannered, gentle man, with a voice that could melt hearts and I think to myself “Ding Dong, finally, I’ve met the one”! I later find out that he is Gay.
  7. I have a special Fried Rice Dish which I know how to cook very well. Absolutely delicious and I’ve cooked it so many times. However, when I have visitors round and cook this same dish I either burn it or there’s too much salt/pepper. Very embarrassing.!

Have you noticed these “Why’s”?

  • Why is that if you are sitting with friends having drinks, if one person picks up their drink – automatically everyone else does?
  • Why is it that if you drink Coca-cola from a coffee mug, it doesn’t taste the same?
  • If you think of someone you haven’t seen or heard from for months, they suddenly call you. (wish that worked with numbers on my lottery tickets – think of the numbers and they’ll come out)
  • Why is it that if you talk about someone nicely and say how wonderful they have been – in the next few days that person would do something to offend you. Alternatively, if you say something works perfectly all the time, e.g a washing machine in your house. As soon as you say it, within a week, it would break down?
  • Finally, let me leave you with a simple challenge. Try writing the number 6 on a piece of paper – while you are writing it, keep on moving your right foot in a cirle - clockwise. You will notice you can’t do it. Why? (However, You can write 6 with your right foot moving in a circle anti-clockwise).

Give it a try, its fun but very baffling!

LOL! This is cute! Watching the telly and having a meal is something that i like to do as well. I wish all buses were 20 minutes apart, lots of times here, you can wait up to 30 mins. to 1 hour for the bus. And i truly wish I could just think the number and it would come out (lots of fun shopping there). And that dreaded anti 6, I tried it and, you're right; but I was determined so on the fifth try, I got it right, but it was done veerrryyy

    sloooowwwly! Fun! Voted-up/rated.

1 you dont notice the grean lights when late and you dont notice the red lights when you have time.

2 you have a control switch for the tv and can always turn it off or put on a dvd then you can skip the adds all together.

3 when waiting for a bus yoe get on the first one so never see that there is a long gap after you have left.

4 i agrea with you on this one it happens to me as well just have to save the money.

5 when you let the kids of early and no one catches you then you dont notice it but if you are cought in the act then it sticks in your mind.

6 whats wrong with having a gay friend he couldd still turn out to be your best friend.

7 when you have visitors round you are busy trying to entertain them at the same time as cooking and then the time passes without you noticing it so you end up with burnt food or you forget you have allready seasond the food and then do it a second time, you are thinking more of your friends than of cooking, time for you all to go out to a restraunt and let some one else do the cooking.

there are explantions for the rest of them as well but i think this is enough. regards paul

Thanks Fastfreta, Skye2day and everyone who has commented.

Fastfreta - its very strange isn't it. I'm sure there's a psychological explanation for it. :)

Skye2day, glad it made you laugh. Nice to hear from u. :)

You are too funny. This was so cute. I am lifted up by your words. The enemy (it is his job) comes to edge his way into our patience, gratitude, joy, peace of mind. We can order him to flee in the name of Jesus. He can not rob us of our peace unless we let him. Of course I never do any of these human things. Sometimes I need to adjust attitude, or not take life so serious. I gotta laugh at myself. See what your words brought out in me. Reflection on do not sweat the small stuff. Very awesome hub. Thank You, 4 everything Your friend

I just stumbled across you hubs, and I'm glad I did. I love your writing style. This article is very, very interesting. I also, like some others tried the experiment with writing the number and using the foot, couldn't do it.

We must be kin!! :-) The traffic lights always get me and they are so many. Yes, I could do the 6 correctly IF I started moving my foot first - but then it would start going backwards after a few times. What's wrong with my brain? Fun hub! Thank you!

That is pretty crazy, I thought for sure that I would be able to do it, but either my foot moved the other direction, or my 6 turned into a backwards 6. I'm gonna go mess with people's heads! :)

In my time, for the bus situation the recipe was to lit up a cigarette, then you could be sure the bus would arrive just to make you waste your smoke. Nowadays even to mention this, I know, I know, is terribly politically incorrect.

Thank you for giving me one more superstition, as if I didn't have enough with my own collection, but I will make as if I hadn't read it and will keep on saying nice things about people. The second part of that point, however, you should know better: do not make the gods jealous so never ever boast of anything, not even of you hair dryer working so nicely.

About people calling you a little while after you thought of them, chances are that they thought of you first while deciding to call you for some reason and then you picked up on their thoughts and ... who knows, may be it's the other way round, we'll know for sure when they finish honing all the devices for "1984" coming true at last and big brother will know even our secretestestest secrets.

You are the Andy Rooney of HubPages.  I noticed the same things especially with traffic lights.  They action had a show call Gay, Straight, or Taken where women had to guess the state of a guy they meet.

I laughed through this whole article! I could relate to every one of them. About those commercials, I always get the abused animals or starving children during the middle of some hilarious comedy shows I watch.
