Wrapped Up like a Douche? Are those Really the Lyrics?

Updated on June 19, 2017
  • What you hear --- "scuse me while I kiss this guy"
  • What Jimi Hendrix was Saying --- "Excuse me while I Kiss the Sky"

  • What you hear --- "Don't bring me Down, Brrruce"
  • What the Electric Light Orchestra was saying "Don't bring me down, Grrooss"

Probably one of the most lyrically abused songs of all time would be Blinded By the Light by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Released in August 1976, this song was instantly (and still is) a Classic. But wait, those lyrics don't make sense? "Blinded by the Light, wrapped up like a Douche, you know the rumor in the night...." Who Cares! The song Rocks, and, in a way , it does make sense, kind of...."wrapped up like a douche"...feasible...."you know the rumor in the night"....ok, well, hmmmm, maybe there's some type of deep meaning there, dunno, don't care...cool song, and besides, everyone sings it like this so whatever......

Well, almost 40 years later (I'm kind of a procrastinator), now, yes, now I care....What IS that guy saying? It doesn't make sense, AND, now I have the power of the internet...sooooo , let me just look this one up.......

Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Blinded by the light, Wrapped up like a noose another rumor in the night ...

Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night...

Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night...

~~ (I left the rest of the song out due to a duplicate warning from HP), you can look the song up with the link below, but for me, this was all I needed). ~~...

Aha! No rumor in the night? Revved up like a deuce.... ok, that makes sense, and it only took me 40 years to look that one up....

By the way, you can find the lyrics to just about any song here

Which of these songs did you actually sing like this?

Other popular and misquoted lyrics include:

  • "Hold me closer Tony Danza" by Elton John, whish is really "Hold me closer Tiny Dancer
  • "There's a bathroom on the Right" by Credence Clearwater revival, which is really "Theres a bad moon on the Rise"
  • "Gimme a Break, C'mon Back" by Prince, or, um, The Artist formerly known as Prince, which is really "Little Red Corvette"

Ok, OK, so the last one may not be as popular as the others, but, I actually got into a huge fight with my cousin when I was little over that one, not gonna tell you who had the lyrics wrong...Hey, perception is reality right?
