"Your House Helper" Utilizing a Gender-Swapped "Boys Over Flowers" or "Cinderella And Four Knights" Concept?

Updated on July 20, 2018

Boys Over Flowers. Cinderella and the Four Knights. Though both K-dramas are different, they both utilize the one-to-four person ratio concept. It is probable it is one of the factors that makes those K-dramas popular. However, it has always been one woman to four men. Why not the other way around?

Fortunately for those who ever wanted to see such a scenario in which one man has to associate with four women simultaneously, it might actually happen. Is the K-drama Your House Helper about to utilize a gender-swapped version of the Boys Over Flowers or Cinderella and the Four Knights concept?

Before we even dive into the possibility that Your House Helper is about to utilize the aforementioned, it is best to give a quick synopsis on what the K-drama is about.

Your House Helper is a new slice-of-life K-drama starring Ha Seok-jin (Drinking Solo), Bona of Cosmic Girls, Ko Won-hee (Welcome to Waikiki), Jeon Soo-jin (Godsend), and Seo Eun-ah (My Sassy Girl). It centers around Kim Ji-woon (Seok-jin), a house helper who not only helps arrange people's homes, but their lives and relationships in the process.

Presently, Your House Helper has aired 12 of its 32 episodes. In the latest four episodes, there were foreshadows possibly leading to the gender-swapped Boys Over Flowers or Cinderella and the Four Knights concept happening.

The Four have formed!

In the one-to-four person concept, the most important detail isn't the one, but the four. Boys Over Flowers called them the "Fabulous Four." Cinderella and the Four Knights called them... well... knights. Refocusing that said concept is gender-swapped in Your House Helper, the four would be all females but they would still be associated with each other. We now have our four females.

  1. Lim Da-young (Bona): An ambitious intern at an advertising company who tries to become a full-time employee.
  2. Yoon Sang-ah (Ko Won-hee): A jewelry designer who acts glamorous outside but shabby and unorganized in private.
  3. Kang Hye-joo (Jeon Soo-jin): An accessory seller who has a complicated relationship with her boyfriend.
  4. Han So-mi (Seo Eun-ah): A nail shop owner who is scared of men after going through a traumatic event in her past.

There are two ties that bind the four women together. The first is they are friends from the same high school. Second, they are either living or always at Lim Da-young's house. From the looks of it, Kang Hye-joo, who lives with her boyfriend right now, will end up moving in eventually.

Kim Ji-woon and The Four spend time together under the same roof!

In the last four episodes, there are moments in which Kim Ji-woon and The Four spend time altogether. The first time is in the ninth episode right after Lim Da-young is discharged from the hospital. She is escorted home by Kim Ji-woon. Upon arrival, it is evident everyone is hungry but the only food available are instant noodles.

This is where it gets interesting. Kim Ji-woon borrows groceries from a neighbor, an elderly man who's been one of his customers for awhile, and he cooks dinner for himself and all four women. The scene is important as it is their first meal together. Not only that, the song "Good Day" by SGBG plays in the background. If you were to listen to the lyrics, it is a woman singing about how a man "cleans up" all the bad in her life and by doing so, she questions if it is love. All four women have some form of "bad in their life." Who better than the house helper who cleans not just houses, but people's lives and relationships, to become the love of their lives.

And if the first dinner all five of them had wasn't enough of a foreshadow, Kim Ji-woon's birthday party is. In the 12th episode, The Four throw a surprise birthday party for Ji-woon. All the women in some way or fashion pitch in to celebrate. For the three currently living in Da-young's house, they prepared food hoping that Ji-woon will approve.

After that, Kim Ji-woon and The Four turn in for the night. The fact The Four women can sleep comfortable with Kim Ji-woon shows some semblance of trust on their behalf.

And just so it is out there, Kim Ji-woon might possibly move into Lim Da-young's house too. There is one room that is left untouched: her father's room. If Ji-woon were to move into that room, it would be a deeper meaning that Ji-woon is now the man in Da-young's life and no longer her deceased father.

Speculation until it (or doesn't) happens!

It must be stressed that the aforementioned theory is just speculation. It is not set in stone and anything could change over the course of new episodes.

To find out what happens next on Your House Helper, for those who have the Korean Broadcasting System, the K-drama airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 p.m. KST. For those living in the United States, it is available to stream online at Viki.
