Not a Jackass Fan, but I Love Bad Grandpa

I was never a big fan of the Jackass series or movies. It wasn't that they were bad, but seeing people intentionally hurt themselves and do stupid things just didn't make me laugh. So, when my friends suggested we go to see the movie Bad Grandpa at the theaters, I was a bit torn. I desperately needed a date night with my hubby and my friends, but I didn't know if I wanted to spend my "grown-up" time watching Johnny Knoxville.

So Glad I Went

After seeing the movie, not only am I glad I went, but I think I actually laughed louder and longer than anyone else in the theater. Honestly, there were a few moments were I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. The movie is definitely not for serious moviegoers looking for an in depth plot, but it is great for those that just want to laugh out loud courtesy of Knoxville's ridiculous imagination.

What the Movie is About

In the movie, Johnny Knoxville goes incognito as an 86-year-old grandpa, Irving Zisman. As you can guess from the name of the film, Irving is a BAD grandpa. Irving's grandson in the movie is Billy (Jackson Nicoll). Billy is an adorable little boy with a drug-addict mom and a loser father. After a series of ...interesting events, Irving is charged with taking Billy to his loser father halfway across the United States. The movie follows Irving and Billy as they travel across the country. During their trip, the cameras follow Billy and Irving as they pull pranks on unsuspecting people everywhere. Many of these skits feature real people who have no idea that Billy and Irving are actors, or that the incidents taking place are not real, which allows hilarity to ensue.

If you are looking for a mindless grown-up comedy that will make you laugh, not just grin and smile, but laugh out loud, check out Bad Grandpa on TV. Check out the Bad Grandpa trailer and polls further down.

The Difference between Jackass Movies and Bad Grandpa

If you haven't watched Bad Grandpa because you aren't a fan of the frat house comedy the cast of Jackass is known for, you'll be glad to know that the 4th movie from the franchise is much more than that.

The first three Jackass movies were mindless hidden comedy sketches that bordered on disgusting and were easily distasteful. As a lover of comedy, I must admit, I laughed at those shows but could do without the needless flashes of penis and balls here and there.

With Bad Grandpa there is still some genitalia comedy, but there is a plot, which makes it more manageable to watch than the TV show and movies MTV made the jackasses famous for.

Bad Grandpa .5 Released Straight to DVD

Although the prank-based comedy the crew of Jackass is known for doesn't appeal to everyone, the original film had such a huge welcoming from fans that Jackass productions decided to release a sort of sequel in June 2014. The semi-sequel, titled Bad Grandpa .5, features more than 40 minutes of outtakes from the movie and commentary from the cast.

If you loved the original movie and all the antics that ensues whenever the Jackass crew is together, you have to see the stuff that didn't make the cut.
