Belinda Carlisle
Singer Belinda Carlisle
Belinda Carlisle is the lead singer and a founding member of one of my favorite 80's groups, The Go-Go's, which is one of the most successful all-female bands in music history. After her Go-Go's days, Carlisle would go on to score six top-thirty singles and three top-forty albums in a chart-topping solo career of her own.

The Go-Go's Days
Belinda Jo Kerzcheski (later Belinda Carlisle) was born August 17, 1958, in Hollywood, California. After her high school years were over, Belinda elected to forgo college and pursue her musical career. After a brief stint with the punk band The Germs, Carlisle teamed up with her friend Jane Wiedlin, to form The Go-Go's in 1978. The pair then recruited Kathy Valentine, Gina Schock and Charlotte Caffey to round out the group.
The Go-Go's debut album Beauty and the Beat spawned the hit releases "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed" and went double platinum, while the albums Vacation and Talk Show offered more hit singles to the '80s music scene. The Go-Go's would revolutionize the pop landscape in the 1980s, and became the first all-female group to top the US charts.
Solo Career
Belinda Carlisle's solo career began in 1985 after The Go-Go's broke up. Her first album, 1986's Belinda, was a resounding success. Featuring the number three hit single "Mad About You," the record went gold and established her as a viable individual artist. The following year, Carlisle released Heaven on Earth, which turned out to be her biggest solo success to date. The record featured the number one title track, the number two single "I Get Weak," and the Top Ten "Circle in the Sand." Runaway Horses, released in 1989, was another successful album, spawning the hit singles "Leave a Light On" and "Summer Rain." However 1991's Live Your Life Be Free, failed to make the charts. Real, released in 1993, didn't revive Carlisle's career and she subsequently joined the re-formed Go-Go's in 1994. The Go-Go's reunion was short-lived, and Carlisle returned to solo recording in 1996 with A Woman and a Man. A string of collections and compilations followed, as well as another Go-Go's reunion. Carlisle's latest effort, Voila, was released in 2007 on the record label Rykodisc.

"Heaven is a Place on Earth" Lyrics
#1 Hit in 1987
When the night falls down
I wait for you
And you come around
And the world's alive
With the sound of kids
On the street outside
When you walk into the room
You pull me close and we start to move
And we're spinning with the stars above
And you lift me up in a wave of love
Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
When I feel alone
I reach for you
And you bring me home
When I'm lost at sea
I hear your voice
And it carries me
In this world we're just beginning
To understand the miracle of living
Baby I was afraid before
But I'm not afraid anymore
Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth ?
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
They say in heaven love comes first
We'll make heaven a place on earth
Ooh heaven is a place on earth
