Best Action Movies 2013

Some of the best movies in 2013 were action movies. Who can resist those ass kicking, flashy scenes where your mind is trying to keep up with who is fighting who and why?

It wasn't easy picking the best 10 action movies of 2013 as there were so many good ones this year. However, I did my best and you'll find a number of these were also the highest grossing movies of 2013 too. Action movies are clearly crowd pullers.

These action movies are a great way for you to escape your everyday life for a few hours and get caught up in someone else's story.

Katniss Returns to Compete in the 75th Hunger Games

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci. Lenny Kravitz and Donald Sutherland return in The second installment of The Hunger Games.

Sure, sometimes the second movie can suck, but that's so not the case with Catching Fire. I have to admit that I actually liked it even better than The Hunger Games.

Not only does Katniss have to figure out where her heart lies (with Peta or with Gale) but she also has to contend with President Snow, uprisings in the Districts and a return to the arena where there can only be one victor.

Katniss is told by President Snow to make sure the people in the Districts believe that she is in love with Peta to try to stop a rebellion. However, everything she does seems to have the opposite effect.

When President Snow realizes how much power the victors of The Hunger Games have it's decided to make some of the victors compete again. This is to teach the people and the previous victors that they are not safe, under the pretense of celebrating 75 years of the Games. And it's also to kill Katniss off before there can be a real rebellion.

Things do not go according to the President's or Katniss' plan and before they know it they have both been betrayed and risk losing everything they consider dear.

This Film Will Make You Believe in Magic!

Who would believe you could get Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo and Jesse Eisenberg to all work together on one movie!

In a word Now You See Me is all about magic.

A group of magicians are invited to join a secret group, but before they can become full members of this prestigious society they have to perform a series of magical performances, proving they have the ability to stay one step ahead of their rivals and the law.

When they work together they call themselves the Four Horsemen. They perform marvelous tricks including robbing a Bank in Paris, during a performance in Las Vegas. And they are not greedy! In fact, they share their stolen proceeds with the audience.

However, this is only the first step in their elaborate scheme to become real magicians.

Meanwhile, the FBI are made to look like fools chasing their own tails trying to figure out how to stop the next heist. Never realizing that all of these magic tricks are leading to a conclusion that none of the victims ever saw coming.

The tricks were amazing and actually believable. This movie comes across as a big budget film and not some cheap crappy magic film. It's one of my favorite action movies of 2013.

See Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley in this film.

Tony Stark used to be a bad boy and a bit of a player. But after his heart problems and falling for Ms Potts he changed a lot. Unfortunately, those he treated badly in the past have come back to haunt him.

A previous girlfriend and a potential business partner he snubbed have come together to prove Tony Stark wrong. They use their technology to do the talking for them, which leads to people becoming human bombs. This is an unfortunate side effect and if Iron man is unable to save Ms Potts in time, she'll suffer the same outcome.

This is the highest grossing movie of 2013, and it's not hard to see why!

Here's the latest reboot of the Superman franchise. Henry Cavill has been brought in to take on the supreme Superhero rule and he doesn't let us down! He looks amazing in the new suit.

This time around we get to see the emotional scenes of the destruction of the planet Krypton and the love of his parents. They send their son to Earth worrying that he might be treated as an outcast, but knowing there is no other choice, as their planet is dying.

As the boy grows up on Earth, his human father has the same worries and asks Clark to hide his abilities, even when these abilities can save those closest to him.

It might be the same story, but it's portrayed from a completely different place. it felt fresh, emotional and beautiful too.

Sometimes big named actors such as Kevin Costner or Russel Crowe can detract from the story, but they added to it very well and at no point took attention away from what was happening on the screen.

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was totally confused... I was wondering how someone went from running the most kick ass race in the galaxy to alone on a planet that looks eerily similar to the planet we saw him fight his way off in Pitch Black? If you shared these feelings after watching the trailer then don't worry, it's all cleared up in the movie and they don't leave you hanging.

It was no secret that Riddick wasn't like the other Necromancers. They didn't really want him running the show, and in a culture where "you keep what you take" it's no surprise he had people setting traps for him and ensuring he'd miss step at some point.

Riddick has unanswered questions about his homeland and decides to use his resources to find his lost home planet. Others say they will help him but it's all an elaborate trap to desert him on a planet while they take control of his new found "people".

In order to get off the planet, Riddick has to use his natural born abilities and some cunning. He makes friends with a new pet and schools the Bounty Hunters in a lesson of why it's impossible to capture him.

However, what I love most about Riddick isn't just his unique eyes or physique but his ability to firmly know which way his moral compass is pointing and at the end of the day he's one of the good guys!

Will there be another installment where he goes to find the people who deserted him on this forsaken planet? Well I guess we'll have to wait and see. This isn't the movie I was expecting to come next in the series. Sure I would have loved it if we had a chance to see the changes Riddick would have made as a leader of one of the most hated and powerful races in the Universe. I do feel they missed an opportunity there, but this was classic Riddick and how we fist saw him, so it was still great.

Jane is desperate for Thor to return to Earth. She's been searching all over the planet for him and the closest she's come is some secret wormhole that some kids found in an abandoned building. She continues to explore the building until she is possessed by a darkness that takes up residence inside her.

A secret race that is only talked about in legends on Asgard are revived when the a celestial event is about to happen. All the planets are about to align and when they do, this long thought dead race will be able to bring forth the darkness from within Jane, and use it to plunge all the planets into eternal darkness.

These evil Elves have waited patiently to fulfill their goals. Only Thor and Loki are able to defeat them. However, Loki isn't to be trusted and Jane's life is at stake.

Thor has to decide if he can trust his deceitful brother, if he can go against his father, and if he is willing to give up his claim to the Asgardian throne for the love of a human.

Tom Cruise Returns to Earth!

Jack Harper is one of the last men on Earth. He and his colleague are here to fix and repair drones. Earth has been abandoned after a war with aliens where we supposedly won, but ruined the planet in the process. The rest of humanity has left the planet and he can't wait to follow them.

However, he is taken hostage by some people living secretly on Earth. Human's that aren't even supposed to be on Earth. Suddenly Jack's memories begin to resurface and he's forced to question everything he believes is real. It's kind of like Wally (the robot that cleaned up the mess we left back on Earth) mixed with The Matrix.

It's really hard to tell you more about this movie without giving the whole thing away.

The costumes and special effects are pretty cool. And the twist at the end is really hard to see coming.

Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone and Sean Penn star in this movie

For this crime thriller we go back in time. This is another mob or gangster type story but this time, instead of being based in Las Vegas, as many of them are, this film is set in Los Angeles in the 1940s/1050's.

It's about how the LAPD dealt with the Mickey Cohen gang in order to keep the East Coast as mafia free as possible. It's the story of how six detectives and police officers became a special unit in order to take down the mafia. They decided to fight fire with fire. Instead of arresting the criminals they decided to do what the mob would do to police officers and shoot them!

Based on the book of the same name.

Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney and Cole Hauser were the lead actors in this movie.

John McClane is back, in the fifth installment of the Die Hard franchise. This time, he's trying to help his son Jack, who's in prison in Russia. However, nothing is ever simple with John McClane and before he knows it he's involved in a terrorist plot. Seems his son has the knack for stepping on the wrong toes too.

It's Die Hard starring Bruce Willis. What more can I say?

You can get the DVD now and complete your Die Hard series! Although there are rumors already that there might just be another one yet to come!

Meet Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinsons and Helea Bonham Carter back in time.

This is also a comedy. Johnny Depp plays the role of Native American Indian spirit warrior Tonto. After listening to his horse he decides that John Reid is a spirit walker and should wear a mask to do what is right. John Reid becomes The Lone Ranger and they embark on an adventure together to save the lives of people in the wild west.

Tonto and The Lone Ranger must work together to fight against the wrongs happening, including corruption and greed.

Now this movie wasn't rated highly but i found it enjoyable. It was funny in parts and Johnny Depp was kinda creepy and weird as an American Indian but it was entertaining.
