The Host
Twilight fans will be excited to hear another of acclaimed author Stephenie Meyer books is being turned into a movie. The Host is due to be released in cinema's from March 29th 2013.
This sci-fi, thriller, love story is about aliens that have taken over people's bodies. These Hosts have made the world a peaceful place by suppressing human emotions. However, there are small pockets of Host free humans that want to survive as themselves.
When Melanie Stryder is captured by the aliens she is impregnated with a Host. She does everything in her power to return to the man she loves, taking her Host with her. Wanda (the Host) finds herself wondering if her race is right after all to try and take over people's free will. Although she finds herself questioning her actions. Oblivion
Oblivion is a science fiction movie set in the future in a post apocalypse world. The world is no longer inhabited by humans and we won the war against the aliens, but paid the ultimate price. Earth is ruined and a clean up crew is sent back to make sure any alien stragglers have been killed. It's kinda like Wall-E but with people instead.
Tom Cruise is the star of the show and is sent back with another female to carry out some repairs. He's kinda the garbage man of the future. However, he realizes certain things don't add up. Sub-consciously he's figured out that things don't make as much sense as they should. When he meets some survivors on Earth, which is supposed to be deserted, he's quickly thrown in the deep end and comes to realize he has to find the truth.
On this journey he's led by Morgan Freeman, who is kinda like the Morpheus from The Matrix and helping him uncover the truth about the world they find themselves in.
Game of Thrones fans will be happy to see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (plays Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones) in Oblivion too.
Be sure to watch this one in cinema's from April 12th 2013.

Star Trek into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Back in 2009 The Star Trek franchise was kicked off again with a whole new cast. Now they are bringing it back but this time it's not going to be bright and airy. Instead, Star Trek Into Darkness is dark.
All your favorites are back gain such as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. This time there's a villain and he's really good at being bad. Apart from that the details aren't really that clear yet. More information will probably come out closer toward the air date of May 17th 2013.

After Earth
What happens a thousand years into the future? Well according to After Earth, we left the planet and moved elsewhere.
Available on DVD.
When a father and son are on a space voyage they run into a few problems and crash land on a hostile world.
Will Smith plays the injured warrior father and has to pass the baton to his son, played by his real life son Jaden Smith. Most of the movie hinges on these two characters as they have crash landed on Earth. However, this isn't the planet we know and love. Instead, everything has evolved to kill humans. We are no longer at the top of the food chain and instead have to avoid the dangers that all the wild animals pose.
After Earth has some amazing visual effects. The back drops and sets are simply stunning. If you like animals then expect to see lots of them in this film. For those that are worried that this is a M. Night Shyamalan project, take solace from the fact that this isn't a story he wrote. This should hopefully fix a lot of the issues he's had with previous projects, allowing him to concentrate on what he does best.
For more cynical viewers, like myself, I am seriously wondering if this is Will Smith trying to launch his son's career as a serious actor. Jaden Smith is growing up fast and this looks like it could be a good time to transition from kid movies to more adult films. Will this Smith movie dominate at the box office or will audiences see right through it? I do like the looks of the costumes.
Either way, this is a more serious Will and Jaden Smith combo in cinema's from June 7th 2013. The last time they collaborated was in The Pursuit of Happyness.

World War Z
Who would have thought that Brad Pitt would wait until June 21st 2013 to try and start a career as an action hero? Yes he's done action scenes before but never like this.
In World War Z, Brad Pitt plays a family man trying to get his family to safety when a virus breaks out turning people into the fastest moving Zombies you've ever seen.
Once his family are safe, his character is then asked to go back and help others escape the clutches of the zombies and to try to protect the world from being over-run by the zombies.
This makes me think of I Am Legend that starred Will Smith in a similar situation. However, in I am Legend the family died and he was alone. I imagine World War Z is what I am legend would have been like if his family had survived.
Based on World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War book available on Amazon.

Pacific Rim
If your idea of the perfect sci-fi movie is Godzilla mixed with Transformers then Pacific Rim is totally your film.
From July 12th 2013, you be able to see what happens when a worm hole to another dimension opens in the ocean and allows huge creatures through with the intent of destroying us, and keeping our planet. Only they didn't realize how much we would refuse to lie down and take a beating quietly. Instead, we build huge transformer type machines, that we operate from the inside, to send Godzilla and his cronies back to the realm they came from.
If you still don't get it, then think of it like playing the Wii inside a huge machine that responds and does exactly what you are doing. So if you do the Birdie dance, the giant tin you're in does the Birdie dance.
There's some cool machines and outfits in this one if you love military type movies. I'm gonna say this is probably gonna appeal far more to the guys than to the ladies.

Elysium
Jodie Foster and Matt Damon team up in one of the best sci-fi movies 2013.
What's Elysium about? Well it's set in the future in 2159 to be exact. Matt Damon plays the antagonist that decides to change the rules up. You see, in the future the class divide is even bigger than it is now. Those who have the money and resources live in luxury on a Space Station orbitting the world. Everyone else is stuck on Earth which is over-crowded, pollutted and generally a very crappy place to live. All the bad things we've done in today has effected the lives of those that come tomorrow.
Everyone accepts this is the status quo until one man decides he's had enough.
For me, this movie looks like it's going to be a case of Jason Bourne in the future. You can try and catch Jason Bourne in the future from September 20th 2013.

Ender's Game
Ender's Game stars Harrison Ford in space, teaching a group of kids to be the worlds salvation against a bunch of aliens. It's based on the book of the same name, written by Orson Scott Card and is due to be released October 25th 2013.
Expect Harrison Ford to play a hard ass on the backs of kids that show skills and talents with weapons. Kids that show these talents early on in life are sent to special boot camp where the whole world watches them grow up to take the mantle of humanity and try and save us from the next alien invasion. It's kinda like The Truman Show, but with far bigger consequences.
There have been a number of production issues with this movie so far, including one part of the operation claiming bankruptcy. Hopefully this won't lead to any further delays
You can read Ender's Game before the movie airs.
