Best shoujo manga/anime list
Shoujo manga/anime and more of my favourites!
Want a good list of shoujo manga and anime that won't run out too quickly?
First of all, Shoujo (also known as Shojo ) primarily targets girls. It is the opposite of Shonen (for boys). The story often centers around romance, love and emotions and is closely tied to the Romance and Drama genres.
Ages that are usually targeted are from 10-18 as some shoujo could be very childish whereas others can be for more older readers.
Examples include: Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits Basket, Vampire Knight, Skip Beat and lovely complex.
Some of the ones in the list don't fit into the shoujo list but they were good as well!
Below is a list of my favourite shoujo more manga/anime. Please feel free to add and vote!

Kaichou wa maid-sama!
Kaichou wa maid-sama! - Info...
One of my favourite anime of all time! The two main characters are really just made for each other in my opinion. Manga is out but I preferred the anime (needed the colour!)
Plot:: Seika High school one an all boys school just recently became a co-ed school. With the female population still a minority and attending school with the fear of the rough boys at school. Misaki Ayuzawa, the new student president takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow the girls to feel safe in the rough environment.
Training, studying, and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation among the male students body as an uptight, boy-hating dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid café in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Takumi Usui takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.
Characters:
Misaki Ayuzawa - The protagonist of the story. A 16 year old girl, Misaki Ayuzawa is the first female student council president at Seika High and known for her extremely demanding and aggressive attitude towards boys. She relentlessly attempts to reform them to live up to what she considers are acceptable standards of behavior. Though many of the male students fear and even hate her, the ones who get to know her come to see that she's actually very fair and willing to help anyone who needs it.
She eventually becomes widely respected for her exceptional academic ability, her great athletic skill, and her many accomplishments as president. Her negative attitude towards males is mostly attributed to her father amassing a huge debt and then disappearing. Misaki became determined to make sure her spacey and helpless mother, Minako would not have to work so hard to support both Misaki and her younger sister, Suzuna. To this extent, she secretly, and at first reluctantly, works as a maid-waitress at Café Maid Latte. Misaki is always driven to do her best regardless of the endeavor, and has a strong sense of justice, though she also has a tendency to forget her own well being in the process of helping others.
Takumi Usui - One of the most popular boys at Seika High, Takumi Usui is a 17 year old boy who appears to take little interest in anything and prefers to observe things as they unfold. He proves to be extraordinarily talented in a number of different fields, including cooking, the violin, chess, and table etiquette.
He's in fact an illegitimate child; his rich English mother (whose maiden name is Usui) had an affair with an unknown Japanese man, who is of the Walker Family She died giving birth to Takumi. To keep this fact secret, his English grandfather sent him to his grandmother's family in Japan, thus having little contact with his older British half-brother and family. He was adopted by his mother's cousin. Most of the education he received was through tutoring, partially explaining his academic excellence.
After becoming bored with isolation, Usui decided to attend a standard high school (which was chosen randomly from a book with his eyes closed). He moved to a high-rise condo though there is nothing really in his condo, to attend Seika High. During his first year at Seika, he quickly became popular among the girls, but not being interested in them, he systematically rejected them whenever they confessed to him. At the beginning of his second year, he develops an interest in Misaki and learns her secret.

Kyo, Koi wo Hajimemasu
Kyo, Koi wo Hajimemasu - Info...
One of the cutest shoujo manga's I have read, it's still ongoing... The plot is very typical where the popular guy falls in love with a normal girl but it's still really good.
Anime is being made very slowly so I look forward to that!
Plot: Despite Tsubaki Hibino's talent in styling other people's hair, she isn't comfortable with doing the same for herself. On her first day of high school, she is immediately looked down upon her delinquent-like classmates for her old-fashioned taste. When she is teased by the top student, Kyouta Tsubaki, who shares the same name as her, she defiantly cuts his hair. Interested in her actions, Kyouta decides to make her his target.
Kyouta, who is not only a promiscuous playboy but also has control of the class, makes Tsubaki need him during class activities, although Tsubaki attempts to resist his advances. Gradually, the two begin to fall in love with each other until Tsubaki discovers that Kyouta cannot commit himself into a relationship due to his mother and a nurse he trusted. However, after understanding Tsubaki's trust in him, Kyouta begins to heal emotionally as he opens his heart up to Tsubaki. But with both of them having their first experiences in love, troubles start to weigh and test their relationship.
Characters:
Tsubaki Hibino - Tsubaki is a high school student who has no specific goal other than to excel in high school and get into a university just to make her mother proud. She enjoys styling her sister's, Sakura, hair, but she tends to put her own hair in braids. She suffers from a low self-esteem and is not confident about dressing fashionably. Because of this, she is often teased at school for being old-fashioned. Kyouta makes her his next target, and although she resists his teasing, she begins to fall in love with him. Kyouta initially rejects her after her first confession, but he grows to accept her, and they begin dating.
Kyouta Tsubaki - Kyouta is the top student in his class and dreams of becoming an astronaut. His father is a middle school teacher, and his mother walked out on the family when he was ten. He despises his mother for abandoning him with his abusive father. He used to have long hair, but Tsubaki cut it off in the first chapter while he was bullying her. He is well known around the school for being a huge playboy. At first, Tsubaki is one of his targets to solely play with, but he grows to like her more. Although he slowly falls in love with her, he is afraid of committing himself to her due to both his mother and a nurse he was close to betraying him.

Arisa
Arisa
One of a kind! You don't get these types of manga too much under the shoujo category. The manga is still ongoing so its fairly new.
Really love the plot! Hopefully, an anime if made soon. Recommended!
Plot: The manga revolves around Sonoda Arisa and Uehara Tsubasa, twin sisters separated by their parents' divorce who promise to send letters to each other to keep in touch. They finally meet again for the first time after three years. Tsubasa is envious, but proud, of her sweet, popular sister, in comparison to her own school life where she if often referred to as "The Demon Princess" and Arisa suggests they switch places for a day. Tsubasa enjoys herself posing as Arisa and at the end of the day she finds a note addressed to her sister in her shoe locker. Arisa reveals that life isn't as happy for her as Tsubasa thinks and she pushes herself out of the window saying "You don't know their secret and you don't know my secret". The bushes manage to save her from death but she falls into a coma. Tsubasa reads the note she found for Arisa that reads "Arisa Sonoda is a traitor" and becomes determined to find out who is responsible for the note that may have led to her sister's attempted suicide. She continues to attend Arisa's school in her place to investigate. She finds out that Arisa's class (2B) has a secret. Every Friday, during fourth period (the only period without a teacher's supervision), the students get out their cell phones and write a wish to the "KING". The "KING" grants only one wish, mostly resulting in violence...

She has purple eyes and wavy blonde hair (although she has the same straight, darkish pink hair as Arisa).
Arisa Sonoda - Tsubasa's twin sister. Arisa is described as a sweet and kind girl. She was known as the class representative. She was the former KING but was replaced by an unknown person after falling into a coma while she committed suicide.
Akira Manabe - A mysterious boy in Arisa's class. Manabe is the only boy who doesn't get along with his classmates. He has purple eyes and blondish tan hair. He eventually finds out that Tsubasa had pretended to be Arisa to find out why she attempted to commit suicide and assists her in finding out who the new KING is. Dengeki Daisy
Dengeki Daisy
A sad and funny manga/anime. It's not too much into the 'romance' side so if that's what you're looking for then this one is really good!
Still ongoing...
Plot: When Teru's older brother died, she was left with little more than a cell phone containing the text-address of an elusive character named DAISY, who Teru's brother had told her would "support her when he was no longer able to." DAISY became Teru's pillar of strength, over the next few years as he sent her encouraging words through his phone, whether inspiring or mere chatter, as she faces her life alone.
One afternoon, after bullies from the student council are mysteriously driven away, Teru accidentally breaks a school window, which results in her working for the grouchy, cruel school janitor named Tasuku Kurosaki. As Teru begins working for the unlikable school janitor, her feelings begin to surpass that of master and servant and she begins to question DAISY's true identity. Could Kurosaki be her beloved DAISY? Meanwhile, Kurosaki is finding himself steadily drawn to Teru. Will he "reach out" to her?
Charcaters:
Teru Kurebayashi - Sixteen year old student, Teru is a strong-willed and kind girl who is alone after her older brother dies. She is left only with a cell phone that her brother gave her connects her to DAISY, who becomes Teru's source of encouragement and protects her from afar with email messages and occasionally through physical acts. Despite never meeting him face-to-face, Teru has absolute trust in him. When she accidentally breaks a window, Teru is forced to become the "servant" of the school janitor, Kurosaki Tasuku, to pay it off. As the manga progresses, Teru's once negative feelings towards Kurosaki grow into something more romantic. However, she becomes suspicious that Kurosaki is in fact DAISY and that the phone her brother left her might be more than it appears.
Tasuku Kurosaki - A 24-year-old young blond man working as the school janitor. Kurosaki is often depicted smoking, drinking, and participating in violent acts. Despite his unpleasant attitude, he cares deeply for Teru, acting toward her with genuine kindness, and is extremely protective of her. Teru is initially unaware that Kurosaki is also DAISY, a computer hacker who worked with her brother, Souichirou, and has been entrusted with looking after her. He is described by Teru's friends to be very attractive, though he does not generally display his emotions. Much to his chagrin, he is often jokingly described as a pervert and a lolicon by his friends, as it is established among his closer companions that he has strong romantic feelings for Teru. Kurosaki has made it his mission to care for Teru on the request of his dying friend, Souichirou, though recently he has chosen to protect her as his true self also. Despite his strong feelings for her, Kurosaki believes that he has no right to love Teru as he is "the one that led her brother to his death." Throughout the manga he struggles between his feelings towards her and his own conflicting memories regarding his complicated past as a hacker.

High School Debut!
High school debut - Info...
Good manga! Even though the plot is predictable the story itself is really interesting!
Plot: Haruna Nagashima gave her all to softball in middle school, now that she has made her high school debut, she has decided to give her all for a new goal: getting a boyfriend and falling in love. However, she has one small problem-since she never paid any attention to fashion or trends in middle school, she has no idea how to go about attracting her yet-to-be-found love. But a chance encounter with the popular Yoh Komiyama provides her with the opportunity she needs. If he coaches her in how to become attractive, surely she can find herself a boyfriend. He agrees to coach Haruna after her great persistence but on one condition: she mustn't fall in love with him.
Characters:
Haruna Nagashima - A high-school girl who played softball and was devoted to manga in middle school. She is known to be a very dense person, a personality similar to Yoh's friend Fumi. Shortly after entering high school, she becomes determined to find a boyfriend under the influence of all the shoujo manga she reads. She accidentally meets Yoh after a failed attempt at being "picked up" by guys. Shortly after that, she finds out Yoh goes to the same high school as Haruna and asks him to coach her on how to be attractive. After being rejected, she meets Asami, Yoh's sister and they become friends. Soon, Yoh reluctantly accepts to be Haruna's coach with one condition - she is not to fall in love with him! Yoh helps her on a daily basis, with clothes and such, and even gives her advice on what to do when she falls in love with one of Yoh's friends. Haruna can be described as simple-minded and doesn't seem to pay much attention to her surroundings, though she is very kindhearted and cannot refuse anyone who needs help. Her friend once stated that she is "pure-hearted to the point of being scary".
Yoh Komiyama - A "total hottie" who's in the grade above Haruna. He knows the ideas on how to impress men from a woman's point of view. Although a little shy and easily embarrassed, he represents a figure of cool demeanor, he was even once confessed to by most of the girls in his class. In the beginning when Haruna asked him to tutor her about profession in boyfriend-making he warned her not to fall in love with him or cry around him.

Lovely Complex
Lovely Complex
Funniest shoujo manga/Anime I have read and seen!
If you haven't already read or watched this you should!
Plot: Love Com is a love story between a boy and a girl in Sakai, Osaka. The girl, Risa Koizumi, is 172 centimetres (5 ft 8 in) tall-much taller than the average Japanese girl. The boy, Atsushi Otani, is 156 cm (5 ft 1 in)-way below the height of the average Japanese boy. Because of this, they are called the "All Hanshin Kyojin" after a popular comedy duo that has a similar height difference.
During summer school, a very tall student named Ryouji Suzuki (from another class) shows up and Risa immediately falls for him because he is tall. There is a girl that Atsushi likes as well, so Risa and Atsushi decide to put aside their differences and help each other get their love interests. But as they get to know each other better, Risa's feelings for Atsushi begin to blossom, and her love life gets complicated from there on.
Characters:
Risa Koizumi - The protagonist, Risa Koizumi is not your average Japanese high school student. Standing 172 centimetres (5 ft 8 in), Risa's height is well above that of most Japanese girls her age (the average height for a female is 158 cm (5 ft 2 in)) Ironically, her surname means 'small fountain'. She and other characters compare her to a giraffe. Risa can be impulsive and strong-willed at times, and is rarely willing to display her softer side. She had a crush on Suzuki before he started dating Chiharu. In the beginning of the series, Risa is 170 cm (5 ft 7 in) but she gains 2 cm (0.79 in) in height to become 172 cm (5 ft 8 in).
Risa starts developing feelings for Otani and soon admits to herself that she likes him. She then starts trying to confess. Failing the first time, Nobuko and Nakao try to help, Nobuko often giving Risa advice on what to do. Finally she very directly tells him. She immediately regrets it, and tells Otani to pretend it never happened, but in spite of herself she tells Otani once again that she likes him. Otani responds that he couldn't see her as a girlfriend yet, so her new goal is to make Otani regret that and make him like her as well.
Atsushi Otani - Atsushi Otani is one of the main characters. He is very short for a boy, standing 156 centimetres (5 ft 1 in). The average height for a male in Japan is 172 cm (5 ft 8 in). Like Koizumi, Otani's surname (roughly, "big valley") is a pun on his diminutive stature, and he can be thoughtless and rude; at heart, however, he is kind and a little silly. Otani is also the star player of the school basketball team.
His ex-girlfriend is Mayu Kanzaki, the manager of his middle-school basketball team. She broke up with him for a much taller boyfriend, and this is one of the reasons Otani is sensitive about his height, but he later finds out that wasn't the reason she broke up with him, it was because she was in love with someone else already who just happened to be tall. He doesn't know quite yet how he feels about Risa, and only responds that he can't see her as a girlfriend (at the moment) when Risa confesses her feelings.

Lovely Complex Opening
Gakuen Alice
Gakuen Alice
The plot develops really nicely towards the end, I think the Manga was better than Anime!
Plot: Mikan Sakura is an orphaned ten-year-old that lives in a small town in the remote countryside. Her best friend Hotaru starts to attend a prodigy school in Tokyo and uses the money she collects to save their school from closing down. Soon, Mikan runs away from home and follows her, and she finds Hotaru in Alice Academy, a school for children with special powers, or Alices. She is discovered by Narumi, a teacher and is identified as a holder of the rare Nullification Alice. Her friendship with Hotaru is rekindled, but she quickly becomes rivals with Natsume, who has the Fire Alice. However, he and the rest of the students in her class are eventually won over by her warm and optimistic demeanor.
Once she is settled in, though, the principal of the Elementary School branch takes notice of her similar appearance to an enemy of the school and sends Luna, with the Soul-Sucking Alice, to monitor her. Luna seems to have a strong hatred for Mikan even before she meets her and uses blackmail and her Alice to sabotage her. In defense of herself during one of Luna's attacks, Mikan uses another rare Alice, the Stealing Alice, which links her to Yuka Azumi, her mother and a member of the anti-Alice organization Zero. Before Mikan can be seized by the Principal, one of her teachers, Nodacchi, who has the Time-Traveling Alice, takes her and her friends to the past to look at the life of her parents. When they return, Yuka is already in the Academy, attempting to meet with Mikan, but is killed when they try to escape. A deal between her companion, Shiki, and the principal releases Mikan's friends from blame but keeps her in captivity.
Characters:
Mikan Sakura - The protagonist of the series. She is ten years old in the beginning and is currently twelve years old. She originally lived in the country with her grandfather (adoptive) until she left her home and grandfather to search for her best friend, Hotaru, who had enrolled in Alice Academy. Mikan discovers that Alice Academy is a school for children with a unique ability called an "Alice". When she arrives at the academy, she does not believe that she is an Alice and had only came to see Hotaru again. However, Narumi, her teacher, believes that she is an Alice and has her enrolled into the school. She was accepted by her classmates with skepticism because she did not know what her Alice was at the time, but after a fight with Natsume, she finds out that she has the Nullification Alice. As the series progresses, she gains a lot of friends due to her cheerful and caring personality and becomes popular among her peers, despite her naivety and comical traits. Her friendship with Hotaru grows stronger, despite their constant fights. She is partners with Natsume, whom she constantly fights with but she later grows to care for him and falls in love with him. She was a No-Star at first because the teachers distrusted her, but she later becomes a Single Star. She also later finds out that she possess the Stealing Alice and partnered Insertion Alice. In chapter 101, she finds out that the High School principal is her paternal uncle and her parents are Yuka Azumi (a member of Z who left her to protect her from the academy) and Izumi Yukihira ( former teacher who died before she was born). She is currently held a captive in the academy by the Elementary Principle, who desires for her Stealing Alice.
Natsume Hyuuga - The male protagonist of the series. He is introduced on Mikan's first day at the academy, when he attempted to escape. Afterwards, he threatened Mikan with his Alice and took off her skirt (he took off her underwear in the manga), which only started a hate relationship between the two for a while. Before coming to the academy, Natsume lived with his father and younger sister because his mother died in a car accident when he was young. He arrived at the academy at age 8, along with Ruka, his best friend. He has the Fire Alice and is the only Special Star in the Elementary Branch. He is a smart student, but often ditches class. He is feared and hated by many students and teachers because of his Alice and rebellious attitude, and he knows the intents of adults. He has many followers and admirers because of his rebellious acts, but he barely acknowledges them. He is forced to secret missions for the Elementary Principle because Persona held his sister, Aoi, captive in the academy. He also suffers from a physical illness related to his Limitless Alice form, that damages his body whenever he uses his Alice and frequently goes to the hospital. Although he is cold and quiet, he truly cares about his friends and wishes to protect them, especially Ruka and later Mikan. At first, he found Mikan annoying, but he later grows to like her and falls in love with her, to the point he is willing to sacrifice his life to protect her.
