Disney CARS Toons, featuring "Mater's Tall Tales," are animated shorts in which Mater tells wild stories about his adventures in a variety of different lifestyles, from being a rock star to a daredevil to a rescue squad vehicle and more. Mater's Tall Tales have been broadcast on Disney Channel, Disney XD and ABC Family. The series first aired in 2008 and there are still new episodes being created. Air Mater is the 10th episode in the popular animated Cars Toons series. It was originally released with the Cars 2 DVD and Blu-ray, and it's now available as a download. In this short, Mater sees a flying school advertising, "We can teach anyone how to fly guaranteed!" So after he gets outfitted with wings, a rudder, and a propeller, Mater learns to fly and shortly thereafter ends up in an air show. During the show, Mater's wing breaks, and Lightning McQueen Hawk has to save him.

The short ends with a hint toward the upcoming Disney "Planes" DVD, as Mater says, "Hey, they ought to make a whole movie about planes."

This new CARS Toon download is a 7-minute short directed by Rob Gibbs and released in 2012. In it, Mater travels back in time to meet Stanley, the founder of Radiator Springs.
