Chloe Marshall

Updated on June 3, 2013

Changing the Face and Body of Beauty Contests

If any one could be the banner girl on size acceptance for young women in the UK then Chloe Marshall may be their shining star. She hails from Guildford, England and competed to win Miss Surrey, a beauty competition in the United Kingdom. Now that she safely has the winning banner strung around her curvy form she wants to go on and win Miss England.

Chloe Marshall platform includes showing young women that it is ok to be plus size and that plus size and beautiful are not oxymoronic. One of the main assumptions about overweight women is that they must be lazy. Chloe is far from lazy. The future beautician likes to exercise and her routine includes a healthy dose of running and horse back riding.

She has received a mixture of positive and negative press but lets face it any kind of press is helpful these days. This lens is dedicated to the beautiful Chloe Elizabeth Marshall.

Fashion Editorial

Three reasons to love Chloe Marshall

1. She's a curvy chic.

2. She's goal-oriented.

3. That smile!

Educate and Inspire

There are more negative views than positive out there on fat and living a fat life. Here are a few positive ones to educate and inspire you.

"I wanted to go through to the Miss England finals to break the stereotype that you have to be tall and skinny to be considered beautiful."

Congratulations Chloe !!!

Chloe Marshall earned second place (or first runner up) in the Miss England competition in July 2008.

The Miss England winner was Laura Coleman and Vanessa Lansom is the second runner up.

Let's Attack the Curvy Teenager

Monica Grenfell, a writer/dietitian and past Miss England judge doesn't think Chloe is as fabulous as we do; in fact she thinks she's "fat, lazy and a poster girl for ill health". Anything but a role model for today's woman.

Read Grenwell's article in the Daily Mail.

Too Fat for a Tiara?

Weigh in on whether you think Chloe is too fat to ultimately win the top prize in the Miss England competition.

Do you think that Chloe Marshall sets a bad example?

Yes, she does. Her appearance in a prestigious award condones being over weight. The world is in a crisis!

Yep, we should not reward unhealthy, and irresponsible... That is not fair, that is not our British way...

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I can only speak from personal experience, but when I was 190 pounds, I did NOT look as chubby as she does. I was muscular and athletic and even though I wore a size 12/14, no one believed I was pushing 200 pounds. I can't imagine my being 6ft vs her 5'10" makes that big a difference. Muscle occupies less space than fat...

Her weight appears to come from inactivity. That's what's unhealthy. Being overweight isn't a health problem, being fat is.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I don't think she's really fat, but she's likely not as healthy as she could be.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

i think she is as curvy as a basketball.....

she stands for lazyness and non-willingness to get off the couch and take care of yourself. she claims to take care of herself, but the evidence is otherwise. 135-140 pounds would be understandable, but 180.....hmmmm. I am tired of looking at obease women everywhere.

The last thing we need in a world full of obese children, is someone on the media saying it's fine to be "big and beautiful". I want my kids to be healthy, practice sports, be able to sleep in a regular bed instead of a hospital-like one. Yes, she has a pretty face, but it's definitely not my definition of beauty.

    • anonymous 9 years ago

no we need more like her.

She's smart, she's beautiful and she's curvy. She's a perfect role model for women and young girls.

She is beautiful and curvy, and that is all that matters.

      • JoshK47 5 years ago

Certainly not? She's the ideal weight, much skinnier is just creepy. (Given, some people can't help being skinny, either, so creepy may be too harsh.) :)

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I think she's beautiful, sexy and healthy looking!

      • anonymous 5 years ago

She is hot, not just her body but also the way way she thinks of herself.being as thin as a twig is a lot less healthy than being overweight. If she says she is active,I believe her.

      • anonymous 5 years ago

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I honestly don`t see what's wrong with her. I think that she is setting a lesson, I think that she tells us that we don`t have to look a certain way to be beautiful, and that we should learn to accept outselves and be comfortable in out own skin.

Just because she is bigger doesn`t mean she is unhealthy, you can be skinny and still be unhealthy.

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I'm a size 12, and I'm a very healthy woman who eats right, exercises and has perfect blood work, a husband who adores me, and a life I love. Why would I want to be thinner? It wouldn't be for my health. If Chloe DOES have health problems, she should lose weight. If she doesn't, she should stay as she is and enjoy life. My point is, how do YOU naysayers know which one it is? Size is not indicative of health. There are fat people who're unhealthy, and there are thin people who're unhealthy. You can't determine how healthy a person is just by looking at them. If's accepted that some people can be "naturally thin", yet for some strange reason we can't seem to be able to accept that some people are naturally larger! This drives me crazy!

      • writercb1 6 years ago from United States

I think that Chloe is a better idol for young girls than any stick-thin anorexic model. Those stick-thin anorexic models give up their lives, their health, and adopt many gross, self-deprecating habits in order to be socially accepted as a "proper" model and be at the "proper" weight.

Chloe is a woman who may weigh more, but just look at her! She exercises and takes care of herself, and she has curves. I think the overweight people who have to worry are those who lack the self-motivation to take care of their bodies and exercise as Chloe does; they are the ones who may be so large as to not have curves, and they are in a dangerous and sorry situation. I worry for them and I think that Chloe is an example for them, too.

She shows that exercising can get you a curvaceous, fantastic body that may be considered "overweight" by some but nevertheless maintains a healthy standard. And it can get the #2 spot in the Miss England beauty pageant!! =D

      • anonymous 6 years ago

no she is even greater than god

      • anonymous 7 years ago

being a plus sized teen myself, i think chloe sets a great example for everyone. she has made it to where my bathing suit does not intimidate me. thanks to chloe, im comfortable and confident in everything i wear and do.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I think she's beautiful, glamorous and has handled all the controversy about her alleged 'weight issue' with tact and grace.

Aren't those the qualities a beauty queen and pageant winner are supposed to possess, rather than whether or not she can fit into a pair of size zero jeans?

      • anonymous 7 years ago

She is just fine. By looking at her in the swim suit or in regular clothes she seems healthy and confident. There is so much obsesion with people having to fit one mold, especially for women. It is no wonder all the swim suit models are anorexic unhealth stick figures that can not live normal lives. It is gotten to the point where they have to be told that they have to put on weight because they are unhealth and don't realize it. All you have to do is look at all the bones poking out everywhere. She more than deserves her award and title. She is the only one in the group that looks like a beautiful real women.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

NO! i absolutely adore her so much!

I am a bigger teen, and she is one of the few

inspirations and role models i have :)

      • anonymous 7 years ago

As a Nutritionist and General Practitioner I'll have to point out that her weight has little to do with her health, being so little over weight and reading that she does regular exercise.

Health and weight are not fixed ratios. A person with nominal weight could indeed be malnourished or have very poor general health and levels of fitness.

So to say she's unhealthy or lazy because of her weight is both inaccurate and divisive.

        So to point the finger

      • anonymous 7 years ago

Nice to see a REAL woman winning a beauty contest for a change. Skinny is not healthy.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        She's hot as hell

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        no way

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        She's absolutely gorgeous!

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        Absolutely not. She's great.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

She is not ashamed of being overweight. That's what I love about her. He professional additute, and her dignifying smile, tells us she is comfortable in her own body. When I was a size 16, I was very self conscious. I hated wearing skirts & shorts, and I especially hated wearing a swim suit in front of gusy. I look up to her. <3

She does not set a bad example. Even though she is a size 16, she is confortable in the body she is in , which is something we should all learn.

It is about time the plus size woman is given the limelight. The skinny models were created by the media and society. Let the curvy ones take the stage!

Excellent lens about a woman I previously knew absolutely nothing about. I sure know a lot more now and feel that your lens is well deserving of 5 stars. As for Chloe Marshall; She's a beautiful woman and has an excellent shape too; what more could you possibly ask for?!

I don't understand how people can think that she is a poor role model, especially as compared to the usual size 0 models. Please . . . I'd rather feel great as a size 10 than starve my body for essential nutrients to maintain a size 0. Seeing all the skinny models out there certainly hasn't taught our children to eat healthy or stay slim. It's helped to create eating disorders and negative body image. There is no way that seeing a larger, more average size model can be a worse influence on our daughters than what we've seen in the media for the last 20 years. Remember when models were a perfect size 8?????

She's really pretty. Her facial features suit her shape too, so I don't think she'd look as lovely if she were any thinner.

She's gorgeous all right. I hope finally bags of bones and skin can be a thing of the past. One thing that bothers me is that these same curvy women refuse to go out with a husky man--they seem to specifically seek out scrawny guys or muscleheads. Where's the love for your husky brothers?
