Chloe Marshall

Updated on June 3, 2013

Changing the Face and Body of Beauty Contests

If any one could be the banner girl on size acceptance for young women in the UK then Chloe Marshall may be their shining star. She hails from Guildford, England and competed to win Miss Surrey, a beauty competition in the United Kingdom. Now that she safely has the winning banner strung around her curvy form she wants to go on and win Miss England.

Chloe Marshall platform includes showing young women that it is ok to be plus size and that plus size and beautiful are not oxymoronic. One of the main assumptions about overweight women is that they must be lazy. Chloe is far from lazy. The future beautician likes to exercise and her routine includes a healthy dose of running and horse back riding.

She has received a mixture of positive and negative press but lets face it any kind of press is helpful these days. This lens is dedicated to the beautiful Chloe Elizabeth Marshall.

Fashion Editorial

Chloe was recently photographed by Velvet for Evans clothing in London. View the spread at Plus Model Magazine.

Three reasons to love Chloe Marshall

1. She's a curvy chic.

2. She's goal-oriented.

3. That smile!

Educate and Inspire

There are more negative views than positive out there on fat and living a fat life. Here are a few positive ones to educate and inspire you.

"I wanted to go through to the Miss England finals to break the stereotype that you have to be tall and skinny to be considered beautiful."

Congratulations Chloe !!!

Chloe Marshall earned second place (or first runner up) in the Miss England competition in July 2008.

The Miss England winner was Laura Coleman and Vanessa Lansom is the second runner up.

Let's Attack the Curvy Teenager

Monica Grenfell, a writer/dietitian and past Miss England judge doesn't think Chloe is as fabulous as we do; in fact she thinks she's "fat, lazy and a poster girl for ill health". Anything but a role model for today's woman.

Read Grenwell's article in the Daily Mail.

Too Fat for a Tiara?

Weigh in on whether you think Chloe is too fat to ultimately win the top prize in the Miss England competition.

Do you think that Chloe Marshall sets a bad example?

Yes, she does. Her appearance in a prestigious award condones being over weight. The world is in a crisis!

Yep, we should not reward unhealthy, and irresponsible... That is not fair, that is not our British way...

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I can only speak from personal experience, but when I was 190 pounds, I did NOT look as chubby as she does. I was muscular and athletic and even though I wore a size 12/14, no one believed I was pushing 200 pounds. I can't imagine my being 6ft vs her 5'10" makes that big a difference. Muscle occupies less space than fat...

Her weight appears to come from inactivity. That's what's unhealthy. Being overweight isn't a health problem, being fat is.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

I don't think she's really fat, but she's likely not as healthy as she could be.

    • anonymous 8 years ago

i think she is as curvy as a basketball.....

she stands for lazyness and non-willingness to get off the couch and take care of yourself. she claims to take care of herself, but the evidence is otherwise. 135-140 pounds would be understandable, but 180.....hmmmm. I am tired of looking at obease women everywhere.

The last thing we need in a world full of obese children, is someone on the media saying it's fine to be "big and beautiful". I want my kids to be healthy, practice sports, be able to sleep in a regular bed instead of a hospital-like one. Yes, she has a pretty face, but it's definitely not my definition of beauty.

    • anonymous 9 years ago

no we need more like her.

She's smart, she's beautiful and she's curvy. She's a perfect role model for women and young girls.

She is beautiful and curvy, and that is all that matters.

      • JoshK47 5 years ago

Certainly not? She's the ideal weight, much skinnier is just creepy. (Given, some people can't help being skinny, either, so creepy may be too harsh.) :)

      • anonymous 5 years ago

I think she's beautiful, sexy and healthy looking!

      • anonymous 5 years ago

She is hot, not just her body but also the way way she thinks of herself.being as thin as a twig is a lot less healthy than being overweight. If she says she is active,I believe her.

      • anonymous 5 years ago

        no

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I honestly don`t see what's wrong with her. I think that she is setting a lesson, I think that she tells us that we don`t have to look a certain way to be beautiful, and that we should learn to accept outselves and be comfortable in out own skin.

Just because she is bigger doesn`t mean she is unhealthy, you can be skinny and still be unhealthy.

      • anonymous 6 years ago

I'm a size 12, and I'm a very healthy woman who eats right, exercises and has perfect blood work, a husband who adores me, and a life I love. Why would I want to be thinner? It wouldn't be for my health. If Chloe DOES have health problems, she should lose weight. If she doesn't, she should stay as she is and enjoy life. My point is, how do YOU naysayers know which one it is? Size is not indicative of health. There are fat people who're unhealthy, and there are thin people who're unhealthy. You can't determine how healthy a person is just by looking at them. If's accepted that some people can be "naturally thin", yet for some strange reason we can't seem to be able to accept that some people are naturally larger! This drives me crazy!

      • writercb1 6 years ago from United States

I think that Chloe is a better idol for young girls than any stick-thin anorexic model. Those stick-thin anorexic models give up their lives, their health, and adopt many gross, self-deprecating habits in order to be socially accepted as a "proper" model and be at the "proper" weight.

Chloe is a woman who may weigh more, but just look at her! She exercises and takes care of herself, and she has curves. I think the overweight people who have to worry are those who lack the self-motivation to take care of their bodies and exercise as Chloe does; they are the ones who may be so large as to not have curves, and they are in a dangerous and sorry situation. I worry for them and I think that Chloe is an example for them, too.

She shows that exercising can get you a curvaceous, fantastic body that may be considered "overweight" by some but nevertheless maintains a healthy standard. And it can get the #2 spot in the Miss England beauty pageant!! =D

      • anonymous 6 years ago

no she is even greater than god

      • anonymous 7 years ago

being a plus sized teen myself, i think chloe sets a great example for everyone. she has made it to where my bathing suit does not intimidate me. thanks to chloe, im comfortable and confident in everything i wear and do.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

I think she's beautiful, glamorous and has handled all the controversy about her alleged 'weight issue' with tact and grace.

Aren't those the qualities a beauty queen and pageant winner are supposed to possess, rather than whether or not she can fit into a pair of size zero jeans?

      • anonymous 7 years ago

She is just fine. By looking at her in the swim suit or in regular clothes she seems healthy and confident. There is so much obsesion with people having to fit one mold, especially for women. It is no wonder all the swim suit models are anorexic unhealth stick figures that can not live normal lives. It is gotten to the point where they have to be told that they have to put on weight because they are unhealth and don't realize it. All you have to do is look at all the bones poking out everywhere. She more than deserves her award and title. She is the only one in the group that looks like a beautiful real women.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

NO! i absolutely adore her so much!

I am a bigger teen, and she is one of the few

inspirations and role models i have :)

      • anonymous 7 years ago

As a Nutritionist and General Practitioner I'll have to point out that her weight has little to do with her health, being so little over weight and reading that she does regular exercise.

Health and weight are not fixed ratios. A person with nominal weight could indeed be malnourished or have very poor general health and levels of fitness.

So to say she's unhealthy or lazy because of her weight is both inaccurate and divisive.

        So to point the finger

      • anonymous 7 years ago

Nice to see a REAL woman winning a beauty contest for a change. Skinny is not healthy.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        She's hot as hell

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        no way

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        She's absolutely gorgeous!

      • anonymous 7 years ago

        Absolutely not. She's great.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

She is not ashamed of being overweight. That's what I love about her. He professional additute, and her dignifying smile, tells us she is comfortable in her own body. When I was a size 16, I was very self conscious. I hated wearing skirts & shorts, and I especially hated wearing a swim suit in front of gusy. I look up to her. <3

She does not set a bad example. Even though she is a size 16, she is confortable in the body she is in , which is something we should all learn.

      • anonymous 7 years ago

Gorgeous woman!!! Curvy and sexy!!! I would date her or girls just like her.

        Who wants a beanpost anyways???

      • anonymous 8 years ago

I think she looks very healthy, and she seems to be a very poised, professional individual. The fact that she likes exercise is encouraging. Way to go, Chloe. Thanks from all of us fellow tall girls. :)

      • anonymous 8 years ago

she's one of the most beautiful girls I will ever see

      • anonymous 8 years ago

I think she is setting a good example. one that says your beautiful being a full sized women. i love you chloe. thanks girl for giving me hope.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

No i dont. She is a very beautiful full sized women. Yeah shes not your tooth pick size pageant contest. whoopty-do. That makes her unique. I hate when people say that she is big and that she is setting a bad example. Well guess what shes not. She loves herself for who she is. She is my role model. Cause people tell me that im not pretty or skinny enough. then i look at chloe and i say no im not. people dont know how much they hurt her. i love you chloe.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

        She is Beautiful and healthy!

People just canât stand that she eats and is still beautiful.

And I feel sorry for people that are emotional stunted by ignorance that the media puts out there.

      • CreativeKitty 8 years ago

Chloe Marshall is fabulous. She is a positive role model for girls and women who are not size 6,8,10 or 12. Personally i can't think of anything worse than being skinny and scraggy. Being skinny does not equal success in life. We need more positive normal-looking rolemodels for women. Ignore women like Monica Grenfell and listen to Gok Wan. Being big, fat obese, large, whatever you want to call it is not necessarily a sign that someone is lazy and unhealthy. The obsession with being stick thin is unhealthy. All my life i was a size 14-16 and loved and so did the men in my life. I worked out for 1 1/2 hours 4 times a week and did yoga everyday. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 7 years ago and thanks to steroids and other medication i'm now a 16-18. However, i don't eat meat or dairy products only fish. I don't lose any weight but my diet is very healthy lots of fish, pulses, vegetables, fruitetc and i walk 20miles a week and do 40 minutes of intense youa at least 4 times a week. Monica Grenfell calls herself an expert in diet and fitness but she's not always right. As long as you eat healthily, keep chocolate as an occasional treat and exercise then being fat doesn't mean unhealthy. And just to add my new man loves me just the way i am, he says he appreciates every luscious curve, and he not some dodgy waster but a higly educated, successful man. Good luck to Chloe in everything she does just don't lose weight.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

I think she looks incredibly hot. I wish more women this size were confident of their appearance, and that men and other women wouldn't shame them into thinking they're ugly because they're not super skinny. She's curvy, feminine, and looks like a real woman. I think it's sexy.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

Far from it! Plus size models like Chloe represent the average women on the street and good for her! She is a very beautiful girl too!

      • anonymous 8 years ago

The tiara goes on the head and everyone that use its own head will be watching a beautiful woman.

        Gus

      • anonymous 8 years ago

Girls that have an issue with her weight are only looking for a way to make them feel better about themselves, for so long "skinny" girls think they run the relationship world, and they do not want to lose their position. As a 18 year old male, Girls that look down on her because of her weight are nothing but ugly and grotesque on the inside and out.

      • RolandTumble 8 years ago

I didn't know too much about her--still no more than is here (I'm not in England...). However, IMHO she's _not_ "fat", judging from her pictures. Curvy, yes, but not over the none-too-firm line into obvious ill health.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

I love her, she's so beautiful.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

I think that she sets an awesome example for "plus size" or

"curvy" young women! Too many teen girls die every day from

anorexia or bulimia because the world is telling them that

they have to be a size zero to be beautiful. Im "curvier" myself and I know exactly how it feels to live in a world like that!! I love her and think that she proves that you can be any shape, size, or body tpe to considered HOT or BEAUTIFUL!! Alot(not all) of skinny people think that if your not skinny than your super unhealthy. That is not exctly true, you can be alittle meatier and still be healthy. I think Chloe ROCKS and that more CURVASIOUS chicks should be recognized for thier beauty!!

      • anonymous 8 years ago

she is perfect thats what a real woman should look like!

      • RichLeighHD 8 years ago

Not at all; Chloe Marshall is absolute proof that you don't have to be underweight to be beautiful. She's a great looking woman and curvy too, curves can look brilliant on a woman and Chloe Marshall shows this to be 100% true. Chloe Marshall sets an excellent example to all, she's a beautiful woman and an absolutely perfect role model.

      • mureksoy 8 years ago

I think she's beautiful and I'm thrilled to see in her a confidence level that was way beyond my reach until I hit 30! Feeling good in your own skin is what counts.

      • anonymous 8 years ago

People confuse thinness with health. I think there are a lot of different healthy body types and Chloe seems to be vibrant and healthy and she's totally beautiful. Isn't it only in recent history that stick-thin was equated with health and beauty? Anyway, I am totally inspired by Chloe and I think she's gorgeous, bottom line.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Certanly not, fair play to Chloe, big girls, deserve fair play, skinny girls always get all the credit,it's time Fat girls got fair play, you don't have to be slim to be beautiful

      • HolisticMamma 9 years ago

        No Way! Rock On Cloe!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Hell no its about time young girls and women had a real person come close to winning 1st place. i would really enjoy if chloe marshall won the top prize because i think its time for change. HA HA all you skinny anorexic skanks a REAL woman beat you all to take second place, so in other words Chloe Marshal you go girl congrats.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Max - does a size 16 girl need to sleep in a "hospital like bed"? My size 16 fiancee and I sleep in a normal, double size cabin bed with plenty of room to spare. I also think Miss Marshall does practise sports - please correct me if I am wrong.

Again, bringing my own "overweight" size 16 fiancee into the equation - she is adept in Kickboxing (twice weekly), swimming and cycles to work most days (in fact, more active than I am!).

So next time, please think before you rashly generalise and back up your opinion with crude, flimsy justificationsTo my mind, sizism of this manner is not all that far removed crude racial stereotyping.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Chloe Is a very wonderful, brave, intelligent, strong woman!

I wish we had more like in the world. If she would have I would marry her in a heartbeat!!!!

In my opinion she is just absolutely PERFECT!!!

        Luv Ya Chloe!

        Iv. in Hawaii

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Most charming and sexy girl...a believe with age she'll only gain beauty.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

I think she's far more attractive than the other girls. Definitely deserves the top spot.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

She's alright. We need more variety.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

i really look up to chloe, i am a 16 and size 16/18 top and bottom with 36G bra size and most girls at school have always picked on me. i like the way i am and i wouldnt change for anything. i think chloe has done so well i'm so happy for her.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

She is a great example to all women. A natural beauty. Womanly and sexy. DONT CHANGE A THING.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

I wish that I had a role model such as Chloe when I was growing up. She sends the right message that you can be a strong, smart and confident young woman regardless of your size!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

she is a vry attractive woman and her body just adds to it. I feel like she is a perfect example of a perfect and normal woman. I rather see her loving her body and showing it off then laying on the bathroom floor throwing up in the toilet or her hip bone or rib cage showing... That's just gross if her bones are showing. But honestly thin or not both r beautiful . But the thin thing can be gross when u r forceing skinnyness on urself.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Go Chloe, you are a tremendous example of some one who is confident in their own skin.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        she is looking too sexy

      • surfsusan 9 years ago

I'm so happy I don't have a daughter in these "anorexia" times. She is a good example for a confident woman.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Chloe Marshall sets a GREAT example...and she's NOT FAT!!! For heaven's sake, what have we done to our perception of women and beauty that we think a normal, healthy, gorgeous young woman is fat if she isn't skin and bones?

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Bad example?! She's gorgeous! And HEALTHY And FIT!!! Psychologically she's probably far healthier than her skinny fellow competitors. You go, Chloe!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Bad? Quite the opposite! It's the emaciated waifs of the modeling world who set the bad example!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

absolutely not! she is happy, confident, smart, and wants the most out of life - just like the thinner girls. the only difference is that she's a size 16 and they're sizes are in the single digits. her size does not and should not affect what her life plans are. it's just simply a number.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        No I don't

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Certanly not, more big girls should join in,fair play to Chloe, she's a lovely girl, though she's still on the slim size just the same. It's high time this discrimination against Fat girls was put to a stop, there's nothing wrong with being on the chubbby side,so long as things are not overdone and we eat healthy and exercise reg

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Good girl,Chloe, show the world that BIG IS BEAUTIFUL!!,fair play to you, stand up and be counted,it's time Fat girls got fair play, although,Chloe is still only about 12 st,which is still a bit on the slim side a size 18 is a realy lovely size, all the very best,Chloe!!!,you're beautiful, hope you win Miss England

      • anonymous 9 years ago

She's smart, she's beautiful and she's curvy. She's a perfect role model for women and young girls.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

neın she ıst very beutufull o hope she wıll wınn

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        She is stunning.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

nice bod! Real women have curves....

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        She is hot

      • anonymous 9 years ago

No way! Finally a real example of what sexy really is! I can't count how many different guys I know end up admitting after their married to some cute little girl that they kinda wish she'd stop fussing over all the salads and put on some curves--this is what feels best in the bedroom and it's about time our culture got to grips with seeing it in the media!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        shes f'in gorgeous

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        DWAMNNNNNNN SHE'S SEXY BEAUTIFUL DELICIOUS!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

as a dad fo 3 girls I feel she is a proud plus size lady that let people male and female know to hell with the skin and bone clones. if England can't handle it she can come to the good old USA. we like our ladies curvy and proud!England wake up

      • anonymous 9 years ago

She's the only sexy woman there to be honest. She's got killer curves, an amazing smile, and I bet she isn't afraid to enjoy a nice meal without making herself vomit afterwards. More women like this should be in the media and be treated as the Goddesses they are. The Greeks knew what beauty was; bring back Aphrodite.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

finally, a woman that looks real being recognized for what she is! ms. marshall is absolutely gorgeous, and a perfect example of what real men want, instead of some fashion designer's backwards opinion!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

i think she's showing everybody that starving yourself to death isn't the only way to get in a beauty pageant. heck, i'm from the philippines, and i'll be cheering her on if she wins miss england and reaches the international competition!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

I think Chloe is beautiful and strong. I think she is a great person for breaking the stereotype model. Chloe has my vote!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

I think she is beautiful, brave, smart, and confident in herself. In my opinion, She is exactly what the average type woman in the world looks like today. Since when did a beauty competition become only about the appearance. If so, why do they have a talent/ I.Q. prtion of the whole competition. To be honest, I don't find a woman who only eats a cracker and drinks a glass of water (and then complains she's fat) attractive.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

No way she's hot and by no means overweight

      • anonymous 9 years ago

Let's rethink the validity of one standard for all people. Last time I checked, we weren't all cookie cutter copies of each other. Why should one scale (the outdated BMI) be used to determine someone's health? Thin does NOT equal health. What about Luisel Ramos, who died at 22, from self induced starvation? Or Ana Carolina Reston, dead at 21 from anorexia? Is that better?

      • anonymous 9 years ago

she is fabulous, I'll vote for her any day! Skinny girls are bony and unpleasant, they are not comfortable to be with, plus size girls are voluptuous, very cuddly and a joy to spend quality time with!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

shes beautiful and i hope she wins!

      • RuthCoffee 9 years ago

She is a good role model that promotes a positive self image..how could that be a a bad example!

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        Not at all. She's lovely.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

        She make sme horny.

      • anonymous 9 years ago

no, it's a positive thing when women can love who they are...in the future if she loses weight it will be because she is concerned about her health risks, not because everybody else tells her she is fat

      • anonymous 9 years ago

That the world people need to look past how you look in a swimsuit, if God made us to all be size 0's then we would all look like a bunch of robots. Size is relative and diversity is great in creation.

She's great. I have a crush on her.

It is about time the plus size woman is given the limelight. The skinny models were created by the media and society. Let the curvy ones take the stage!

Excellent lens about a woman I previously knew absolutely nothing about. I sure know a lot more now and feel that your lens is well deserving of 5 stars. As for Chloe Marshall; She's a beautiful woman and has an excellent shape too; what more could you possibly ask for?!

I don't understand how people can think that she is a poor role model, especially as compared to the usual size 0 models. Please . . . I'd rather feel great as a size 10 than starve my body for essential nutrients to maintain a size 0. Seeing all the skinny models out there certainly hasn't taught our children to eat healthy or stay slim. It's helped to create eating disorders and negative body image. There is no way that seeing a larger, more average size model can be a worse influence on our daughters than what we've seen in the media for the last 20 years. Remember when models were a perfect size 8?????

Body image is a major struggle for too many people. But beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Feel free to see how I try to help people too:

She's really pretty. Her facial features suit her shape too, so I don't think she'd look as lovely if she were any thinner.

She's gorgeous all right. I hope finally bags of bones and skin can be a thing of the past. One thing that bothers me is that these same curvy women refuse to go out with a husky man--they seem to specifically seek out scrawny guys or muscleheads. Where's the love for your husky brothers?
