Coronation Street: The Best Hats For Weddings
Hats For Every Occasion?
The joke in my house is that if it's a British program, like Coronation Street or Downton Abbey, and there's a wedding involved, the wedding will be called off, but not until after everyone is dressed in their blacks and whites and every last person has a beautiful, elegant hat adorning their head. The hats worn for potential Coronation Street (an English TV Soap that has run for over 50 years) weddings are exceptional and exemplary, made of the finest silks, satins, and adorned with beautiful feathers.
Below are beautiful designs that you might be able to wear everyday, and some that might only be for special occasions. I am not going to pretend to tell you which hats you could wear, and when. Nope - that's up to you.

Right-O. That's what we call these fancy, crazy top-of-the-head-partial-hats - "Cancellators." At least, when we're watching Coronation Street because this program seems to like weddings that are on, then off, then on, then off. And, some of their characters get married many, many times.
They are otherwise known as Fascinators and are all the rage.
Prior to the wedding of Wills and Kate I went shopping for the ingredients to build a spectacular fascinator for a special client: a bird, feathers, and the absolutely largest flower I could find. You will see the conclusion of my project in the photo above. Of course, for the sake of future contracts, I must show the utmost discretion and hide the identity of my client.

Hats like this have been revived, as of late, due to the steampunk aesthetic. I have seen women look spectacular in top hats, accompanied by scarves, jeans, and beautiful boots. See below for examples of designer items that might be considered with this hat.
I can imagine Carla Conner crashing a wedding in this hat and her nasty, skinny legged jeans with vampire make up. Oh yeah - let's see that one!
In the figurative sense, many of us wear a multitude of hats.
But I'm talking about the ones you pop on your head, change as your mood changes, or as the weather changes. They can be made of pragmatic textiles like wool and polyvinyl or of luxurious fabrics like velvet, feathers, and diamonds. I give both of theses descriptions because the writers for Coronation Street make a point of dragging out even the most mundane of hats during down pouriest of seasons.
Do You Wear Hats?
Can't you just see Audrey Roberts adorned in this one? It's a beautiful piece that is clearly a statement-maker with that fabulous feather adornment. I love the thought of the character transformation that wearing this hat would cause.
It's why I love hats - I get to be someone new in each hat I put on!
Stove Pipe and Feathers
Here's the hat for Maria Connor - a hair specialist. This hat won't upstage your hairdoo, while also making sure your presence is known in the room.
Mini Fascinator Hat
Can't you just picture Sophie Webster with one of these little pieces atop her pretty little head? This is what my daughter would want to wear because it's part hat, part fascinator, and full of attention.
It's fun and it's creative. The best part is that you can have any kind of hairdo you want under one of these.
The fascinator is where it's at for the fashion savvy. I can see Fiz sporting this one atop her wild red curls.
This particular fascinator is made for the girl who wants to wear it regularly. Attached to a hair band, designing your hairdo is easy and placing this on your head is even easier.
It's The MAD Hatter!
A Mad Hatter's Hat? PURRRRRFECT!
And who best to wear this baby? Why the late Tina McIntyre would have, of course. Can't you imagine her sporting this magnificent piece with a beautiful suit? It's so very sad that Tina's character has left The Street.
I couldn't imagine a more stylish fascinator than this Disney-created hair piece. If you're crazy about hats being identified as the Mad Hatter is ideal.
Do You Have A Favourite Coronation Street Character?
Cancellator Bridal Tiara
Interested to compete with the Bride? Pop this sweet little piece on your head for the engagement party and you can drag all of the attention to you.
My fair choice for this little number would be Eva. I could see her sad little snarly face beneath this glittering tiara at engagement parties, bridal showers, and other people's weddings.
An American In Manchester
And for a little American flare, I am including this bejeweled gem. Who better to sport this hard-edge, high bling piece than Tracey Barlow?
In contrast to the understated (?) British-styled hats which are adorned with feathers and more natural items, this hat is prime for the Kentucky derby with it's glittering rhinestones. Just remember, nothing but the best for Tracey.
Do You Watch Coronation Street?
I really do love hats. I have collected them from all over the world. I love a big brimmed Columbian hat for super sunny days, and an African head scarf for casual dinners out. My particular favourite is my velvet Cat In The Hat number that was designed for my head by my mom - it's one of those heirloom pieces that I'll pass down in the family.
Do you have any hats that you love to wear?
I think I have become a Coronation Street fan just because of the fabulous hats they wear to the cancelled weddings! What about you, are you a Coronation Street fan? Who is your favourite character and what kind of hat do think would suit them?
