Disney Nature's Earth on Blu-ray

"A nature documentary compiled from the vast footage of the BBC's and The Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series and produced by award-winning British producer and director Alastair Fothergill and Mark Linfield, Earth is the first nature film from the newly formed Disneynature--a Disney independent film label dedicated to bringing high impact wildlife and environmental films to theaters. James Earl Jones narrates this US version of the 96-minute documentary film (the English and German version are narrated by Patrick Stewart and Ulrich Tukur, respectively) which follows families of arctic polar bears, African elephants, and humpback whales for an entire year. The film tracks the animals' migrations across the globe and through some of the harshest terrains and climates on earth, pointing out in a factual and remarkably non-political way the negative effects of global warming and habitat destruction on these animals and the planet as a whole." ~~ Amazon

Amazon Customer Reviews

"Starting with a polar bear family in the Artic this movie navigates the globe. Virtually all habitats are covered, including temperate forests, tropical jungles, deserts, deltas and the ocean. The photography is brillant and breathtaking, both of animal and plant life. It manages to cover the effects of climate change without sounding preachy. I loved the segments about the elephants, the humpback whales and the birds of paradise. It's really hard to imagine how this movie could have been any better. It's true there were numerous scenes of predators attacking prey, though none that were excessively gory. I think the movie's depiction of "the web of life" in a realistic fashion was the right choice. But parents will need to know their kids and make appropriate decisions about what they can or cannot handle. As an adult I very much enjoyed it and found it be a worthy reminder of the glories of nature that we humans too often forget." - Earth (Theatrical Release)

"Earth offers viewers a truly mesmerizing cinematic account of the "circle of life". Younger viewers may be startled by dramatic footage of Great White Sharks seizing and swallowing sea lions off the Pacific coast of South America, a successful pursuit by a solitary cheetah of a young antelope, and an exciting, almost breathtaking, nocturnal attack by a pride of lions upon weary, hungry and thirsty elephants. However, these violent scenes are relatively few and mercifully short, in contrast to the vivid, bright and bold color palette of tropical rain forests, the Arctic tundra in spring bloom, and clear, warm waters of the tropical Pacific Ocean. These compelling images are well worth the price...the successful result of hundreds of hours of brilliant cinematography done by the BBC nature film crews across the globe." ~~ John Kwok, New York, NY
