Best Fantasy Movies

By: Yollie and Dan Bunag

Fantasy movies are great because they let your imagination go beyond the real and logical. In a world of make believe, everything is possible.

We love fantasy movies, especially those based on famous books and later made into films. Sometimes they're better than the books, sometimes they don't quite match up. The nice thing about fantasy movies is what you take out of it. These movies go beyond what you think are possible. They enhance your imagination, venture the supernatural, and broaden comprehension to beyond normal possibilities and acceptable facts.

The following is a list of the fantasy movies we love or like a lot.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

We especially like this first Harry Potter movie as young Harry Potter was introduced in the world of cinema. Harry Potter learns on his 11th birthday that he is the orphaned first son of two powerful wizards and possesses magical powers of his own. At Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. He learns the high-flying sport Quidditch and plays a thrilling game with living chess pieces on his way to face a Dark Wizard bent on destroying him.

Watch other Harry Potter sequels as he and his friends become more adept at wizardry, go on further adventures, and combat the dark forces.

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (2003)

Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler Rating: PG-13

You have to watch the Lord of the Rings Trilogy to truly appreciate the story, epic, and grandeur of this production. These movies are among our favorites and have bought DVDs for repeat viewing experience in the convenience of our living room home cinema. As such we very much like all three Lord of the Rings movies.

The final battle for Middle-earth begins. Frodo and Sam, led by Gollum, continue their dangerous mission toward the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring. Aragorn struggles to fulfill his legacy as he leads his outnumbered followers against the growing power of the Dark Lord Sauron, so that the Ring-bearer may complete his quest.

The Princess Bride was staged as a book read by grandfather to his ill grandson. The grandfather assures the romance-weary grandson that the book had much more to deliver than a simple love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates.

The 10th Kingdom

This series is quite long, but provides sufficient twists and interesting enough to finish until the end. We really like it and provides our recommendation. At the edge of the mortal world lies a mystical vortex which leads to the Nine Kingdoms a fantastic land where fairy tales are reinvented... and not with happily-ever-after results! An evil queen has just doomed Prince Wendell to life as a dog. His quest to recapture the throne leads him through a portal to the mythical Tenth Kingdom... Central Park! With the help of ordinary mortals Virginia and Tony they battle evil in a parallel universe of vile trolls goblins and every fairy tale character imaginable.

The Chronicles of Narnia:

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

We believe children will love and appreciate this movie and following sequels. The story line is quite good and we especially like the fantasy adventure. Enter another world with a timeless and beloved adventure. With the stunningly realistic special effects, you'll experience the exploits of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, four siblings who find the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of hide-and-seek at the country estate of a mysterious professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, once peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that has been turned into a world of eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Aided by the wise and magnificent lion Aslan, the children lead Narnia into a spectacular, climactic battle to be free of the Witch's glacial powers forever.
