Okay, what's this movie: the opening is this freelance agent hired by a company to...
figure out their rival company's secret hologram technology. He locks himself away to figure it out and comes out with the product, gets paid, and then has his memory erased so he can't share the secret with others? I think it has Tom Cruise, but I tried looking it up and came out with nothing.
The answer is Paycheck (2003) and it wasn't Tom Cruise but Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman and Aaron Eckhart.
It's one of the most intriguing films I have seen in a while and really enjoyed it.
I shall have to watch it again now you've jogged my memory
haha, that's hilarious because that movie was just on, i caught a short part in the middle, but that actually sparked my question! thanks!
