Gospel Music by Johnny Cash
Right now I'm listening to Pandora. A personalized internet radio. As I clicked into Pandora and chose the Traditional Country Hymns channel, the first song that started playing was by Johnny Cash. It was his first song he tried to make it big with in the music world; I was there when it happened. It brought back memories of watching the movie Walk the Line. I remember when he got his garage buddies together to play this song in hopes of making it big. The recording studio had heard said this song sung by everyone and asked Johnny if had something original. On the nervous side he played Folsom Prison Blues. His band had no knowledge of this song but quickly picked up it up and soon the song became a big time hit. Even though he started with a religious hymn, he sure was there when he it happened for sure. He made into the music world just like he wanted!

Ultimate Gospel
Johnny sang a variety of music from country, folk, rock and gospel. As a child his mom sang religious hymns to him while out picking cotton in the fields where his love of gospel music started. Later in years he recorded an album "Mother's Hymn Book" where he sang songs from his mother's hymn book called 'Heavenly Highway Hymns'.
On this album that is featured in this lens the Ultimate Gospel are 25 of Johnny's greatest religious songs. My favorites are are some of the traditional hymns such as:
- How Great Thou Art
- There Is No Secret
- In The Sweet By and By
- Amazing Grace
- Daddy Sang Bass
I grew up on traditional hymns so they are dear to my heart. Songs like this bring back memories of my Dad playing his saxophone. Those were his most prized religious songs he loved to play.
