It has already been confirmed for a while now and recently the studio behind the future Green Lantern movie made the big announcement regarding who will be cast for the lead for the DC comic book based movie project.  the part of Hal Jordan / Green Lantern will be played by Canadian-born Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds.  Fresh off his positively received protrayal of the comicbook mutant mercenary Deadpool in the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, Reynolds was Warner Bros. final choice for the title role in Green Lantern the movie, expected to be released in June 2011 - in time to earn big bucks during the Summer blockbuster movie season.  The recent announcement of Reynolds as the lead put an end to speculation that the role might go to either Bradley Cooper or Nathan Fillion, the top two names rumoured on the internet to be in the running for the part.  In fact there has even been a well made fan trailer circulating around the net that starred Fillion as the Green Latern, incorporating scenes with Fillion from Serenity or elsewhere to great effect. This contributed to fans desires to see him cast in the actual movie as one of the Green Lanterns.

Of course not much else has been confirmed or denied regarding the plot of the upcoming DC comics movie. We can pretty much assume that the standard introductory origin and initial development of the lead character, his close supporting cast, as well as his main villain or villains will be covered by this movie.  In the case of Green Lantern, the supporting characters should include Carol Ferris (his primary love interest), the Guardians of Oa (the ones who created the rings), Abin Sur (the fatally injured Lantern who originally bequeathes his ring to Hal Jordan), Sinestro (his main adversary), and any other Green Lantern Corps members that they should decide to include in the film, such as Tomar-Re, Katma Tui, Kilowog, and maybe other later Earth sector Green Lanterns John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner, although i would expect that it is highly likely that anty such appearances by the other Earth-born Lantern Corps members would be held back until any possible sequel is done. (especially since they all came after Hal Jordan in the comics)

The actual backstory of the Green Lantern character and the Green Lantern Corps can be summed up in this way: The Green Lantern Corps is the name of a fictional intergalactic police force featured in various DC Comics. The Corp patrols the farthest reaches of the DC Universe at the behest of the Guardians; a race of immortals residing on the planet Oa. According to DC continuity, the Green Lantern Corps has been in existance for three billion years; surviving multiple conflicts both internal and foreign. Divided as pairs amongst the 3600 “sectors” of the universe, over 7200 members (known commonly as Green Lanterns) are estimated as serving within the Corps. Each Green Lantern is given a power ring, a weapon granting the use of incredible abilities that are fueled by the wearer's own willpower. Hal Jordan of Earth is sought out for his strong will power and given a power ring by the mortally injured Green Lantern Abin Sur who has crash landed on Earth. Moments after bequeathing his ring to Jordan, Abin Sur dies, leaving Jordan as the newly deputized Green Lantern of Earth. (source: Wikipedia)

I am guessing that it will not be long before we start seeing a growing number of both fan made and then later official studio released Green Lantern movie posters.  Of course for those that might want a Green Lantern poster now, there are already numerous comic book based Green Lantern posters as well as a lot of other Green Lantern themed merchandise available out there; a quick search online will show this to be the case. Now we just have to keep our eyes open for any future Green Lantern movie news and developments as they are announced ahead of the 2011 release date.

yeah, i think what will probably make or break this film will be two things. who they cast as a villain, because as heath ledger proved in the "Dark Knight", a hero is only as good as the villain he fights. Therefore, they're going to need a strong actor to play Sinestro, if that is who WB goes with.

Plus, they're going to have to spend a lot of money on special effects if they want this to work. Otherwise, it could fail. However, I'm sure WB will try to put out something good though.
