Hallmark's Growing The BIG One Giant Pumpkin Movie Review 2010

Updated on October 8, 2014

Shannon Doherty Stars in Growing the Big One

Trick or Treat? Halloween and Hallmark movie lovers had a new movie to look forward to in 2010 and this one was a fall or Halloween movie, which features small town life and giant pumpkins.

Shannen Doherty, who I remember from Beverly Hills 90210, stars in this Hallmark Channel Original movie which debuted on the Hallmark channel on Saturday, October 23, 2010 and is available now on DVD. Kavan Smith, of Stargate Atlantis fame, is her co-star.

Growing The Big One tells the story of a family farm, deep in debt, which is inherited by a young lady, a radio DJ, named Emma Silver. In an attempt to save the farm, Emma enters a contest - a contest for growing the largest pumpkin. Part of the story surrounds the turning of Emma's life on the farm into a radio or webcam show, which adds extra drama and interest to the story line. Since Emma knows nothing about gardening, she eventually accepts the help of a handsome neighbor...

Formerly a city slicker, Emma learns to love simple life in a small town and to love her gardening partner, too.

The Good Witch - Another Top-Rated Hallmark Halloween Movie

The Good Witch is the story of a woman who moves to a small town and a mysterious mansion. She opens an interesting shop called Bell, Book and Candle, which sells candles, lotions, and so on and draws the attention of the children of the Police Chief. The children think she is a good witch but not every one in town likes their new neighbor...

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW: "The Good Witch will remind you of any number of the charming books you may have read as a youngster, and does a great job of developing a feeling of being in and belonging in a fictional small town setting. Catherine Bell is excellent as the good witch who doesn't get too flustered no matter what she is up against, doing her best to win over her detractors through open friendliness rather than matching their antagonism. That in itself is a good lesson learned." - Brent Butler
