Henry Cavill
Daily planet back issue
The Dashing Duke of Steel
Your new 'Superman' is the British actor Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill, who grew up in Jersey which he says is like 9 x 5 miles and is a part of Great Britain (I have a video in here that explains it) a small island between England & France. Though Jersey may be home, he says he's currently "floating around the world"
Henry left for school at the age of 13 when he was itching to leave Jersey because it felt very small. He found himself at the upper middle class boarding school called Stowe Academy and says the kids would call him 'Fatty Cavill', and he had really bad home sickness calling his mother three times a day for two years straight until his mom told him to stop calling.
While at Stowe Henry met Russell Crowe who was filming a movie (I think title) Proof of Life and Henry ended up being an extra in it as well.
Henry's big break came at the age of 17 with the Count of Monte Crist, then five years later 'became' the first Duke of Suffolk Charles Brandon in the Showtime series The Tudors.
Henry's dad Colin got his boys into computers when they were young and had five PC's lined up on the Dining room tabl e next to one another and they'd play network games together, which I'm sure you guessed Mrs. Cavill was (SarcasticallY) Thrilled about.
When Snyder called Henry with the news he's our Superman and the bad news Henry would have to start working out; Henry was alone in his London apartment and could not get in touch with his then girlfriend (now Fiancé) nor family, "no one was available to tell the good news to. He said in Entertainment weekly "This is Ridiculous! I've just been given the biggest job in history; and nobody's picking up their bloody phones!!"
Henry has appeared in several films, including 2002's acclaimed The Count of Monte Cristo, (which I love watching over & over when its on) the dramatic I Capture the Castle (2003), experimental musical comedy Red Riding Hood (2004), an "edgy" Hellraiser: Hellworld in (2005), and the 2006 film version of Tristan & Isolde.
Henry Cavill has already come extremely close for three major films to play the leading man. Each of these franchises would have defined his acting career for years to come.
Henry was the subject of an extensive on-line and write-in petition drive to Warner Brothers; the popular Gentleman Cavill was requested by many aficionados in their unsuccessful campaign to select him for the character of Cedric Diggory in the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Rumors abound that he auditioned for the lead role in Batman Begins, for a while it looked as if he may have won the cape, but then lost the crusade to Christian Bale. Henry never even auditioned!
The same goes for Twilight which he was never called or sent a script, even though Twilight author Stephanie Meyer called Cavill 'The PERFECT Edward" (I'm sorry but when the author says a certain actor would be 'perfect' for the character you get that actor on the line & should be the first one you call!)
In 2005, he became the youngest contender for the role of James Bond. henry has to do two separate auditions one in the U.s. & one in the U.K. consiting of two screen tests with scenes of Sean Connery's films and one other from Casino Royale. The producers and director were torn between him and Daniel Craig. Apparently the director wanted Henry Cavill as a younger version of James Bond, roving about the parlors in Casino Royale. (which would have been a smart idea to get the younger generation into the franchise) It turns out the producers believed Cavill too young (22 at the time) for the role, which went to Daniel Craig. (I still personally disagree on Craig even if Henry was too young) However Henry says in British GQ that he wouldn't have done the role as much justice as he could now.
Before the October, 2004 casting of Brandon Routh, Henry auditioned for the role of Superman for the 2006 Superman film which was tentitively to be titled Superman:Flyby under direction of McG and had won the role. Then there was a director change and Bryan Singer came along & Brandon Routh was his man and so therefore the (possible reason for the) forgettable Superman Returns. Between screen tests for Superman and Bond a henry was really close to quitting acting, but then he'd look at a certain personal messege Russell Crowe had sent in a care package to him and he was back to it.
When he was not auditioning he divided his time between London and spending time at his parents home in Jersey (as in the Island not New Jersey) while working as a bartender at 'Liquid' to save up money for the next audition.
In the December 05 edition of Empire Magazine, he was dubbed "...the most unlucky man in Hollywood". A resilient Henry Cavill stepped beyond the pale of circumstance, to say that the publicity brings his name out. Its Surprising that he had yet to break through as a major film star, but by the time he turned 23, Henry Cavill landed a leading role in the Showtime series The Tudors (2006), as the charming play boy Charles Brandon who was made the 'Duke of Suffolk and has a charming yet minor part in the fantasy film Stardust (2007).
In the summer of 2010 Henry Made #3 on The Summer of 2010- 99 Most desirable Men.
The First Week of February 2011 brought the announcement that Henry's handsome face would be the new "Man of Steel' for the reboot of Superman. Henry finally got the part he's worked so hard for, after not getting the role of a young James Bond or the previous Superman what has now become known as the 'Superman before this one' (ie:Man of steel) .
Henry beat out at least six actors (so I've heard that had tried) out for the role. The likes of Matthew Bomer (White Collar) Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries/Lost) Matthew Goode (Watchmen) True Blood's favorie furball Joe Manganiello as well as The Social Network's Armie Hammer & The Rite's Colin O'Donaghue. As mentioned Cavill The new Man of Steel was on McG's short list to play the lead in Superman Returns before He was replaced by Bryan Singer (which went to actor Brandon Routh.). Christopher Nolan, since that day has considered Henry as a contender for the role since the reboot was announced.
So it looks like Henry has FINALLY got the role that just may define his career. With a Year to go Henry is busy at work filming and buffing up for the new role..
"I'm just picking out as much as I possibly can from the comic book history because obviously it's plastered across there as to who this man is and whatever part of his life you're playing; whatever part of his ultimate journey you're playing, you just need to put in either the building aspects, the building blocks to how he ends up, all those key characteristics that are carried through and so it's just picking up a general idea of what he is and then working from there,"
Henry had to go through a 'Laugh test' for the role ; shooting a screen test for Superman wearing a replica of Christopher Reeves' 1978 costume without anyone giggling. Though the costume looking a bit dated and Henry Definitely looking the part at 6'1 with Piercing blue eyes, dark hair, Defined cheekbones & solid chin ...Zack Snyder said "If you could put on the suit & pull it off, That' an awesome achievement" No One laughed so Henry Passed the test. The New Man of Steel had his doubts, being he had lost the muscle tone he had for his Role of (Greek Hero) Theseus in Immortals (Nov 2011) & though "Oh, God, they're going to look at me and Go, 'he's not superman. Not a chance'"
The New take on the movie was pitched in 2010 by Nolan, To Superman developer Goyer addressing the character who was introduced in 1938 by creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster but in a modern context tho staying true to origins and essence. Snyder says The new movie will emphasize the man in superman. However, the question remains for the new movie; How will our current culture that's hooked on Iron Men & Wolverines buy into the goody good old fashion Brand of Truth, Justice & the American way Heroism? How do you make that 'cool' again as 'The American way isn't what it used to be when the comics first came out, or when the first movies did. So now we have a next-gen Superman with masculinity, gravitas, and Empathy.
In the June 2013 British version of GQ they say Henry has 'Earnestness that boarders on innocence' Zak Snyder the Man of Steel director says 'though it may sound cheesey; that Henry has a lot of the same qualities you would hope for in a Superman"
Henry was raised on Jersey one of the small British islands, he had a limited time for pop culture beyond TV & computer games. During his years at boarding school is when the acting bug bit and ever since he was 17 He's "been chasing the career around the world"
Henry Played Charles Brandon The First Duke of Suffolk all four seasons on Showtime's The Tudors. Also played in movies like the 2009 Woody Allen comedy Whatever works (brandishing that gorgeous accent) as well as the Horror movie Blood Creek alongside Prison Break alum Dominic Purcell. 2007 brought him a small part in Stardust & one of my top faves 2002's The Count of Monte Cristo Coming up he will be playing Will Shaw in The Cold Light of Day who uncovers a conspiracy while trying to rescue his family after they've been kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. Henry plays a peasant named Theseus in November 2011's Immortals; secretly chosen by Zeus he must save his people from King Hyperion who's making a disfigured army. Snyder said he would have cast Henry in his 2007 film 300 but Henry was holding out for the part of 007. The choice was between a younger Bond & one closer to his 30s (1. Henry was a few years away from 30 & 2. Daniel Craig does not look at all 30s!! The man is what 40s or 50s ?? !!!) Although Batman begins comes up allot when it comes to parts Henry was in the running for etc. Its news to him "At least nobody was talking to me about it" Henry however was up for the role of superman & was to be directed by McG, in an earlier version but that fell apart in 2004.
As an older wiser, more experienced actor he says "Here I am seven years later, 'Got Ya'! It's wonderful to have a second stab at a job"
Ragardless of his model jock like good looks.. he's really 'Quite the nerd' (more Geek I'd say) spending an evening at home sending off a group email to his brothers and playing online computer games with them.
I challenge anyone tolook in Henry's eyes for five seconds and not giggle.

The Man that SHOULD have been Agent 007 - or maybe in a 'spin-off' for a new generation
Should Henry Have been the one cast as the new James Bond
A future Bond?
Years back, Henry tried out for the roll of James Bond losing out to Daniel Craig...
I've watched only one James Bond movie fully my whole life, that was The last one with Daniel Craig Quantum of Solace. For once the trailer for this Bond movie, made me interested in see one for once. I was seriously let down.
Seeing bits & pieces of the previous movies with Sean Connery or Pierce Bronson they look so dapper, sophisticated and definitely worldly.
Daniel Craig looks more like he should be in Indiana Jones than playing 007, at least to me & that was before I even heard about Henry having tried out for it.
Look at the picture, & then look as the Pictures of the others in Tuxes... He's done action and will have more action movies/scenes under his belt after Immortals, Cold Light of Day and Superman.
Cold Light of Day - Will Shaw
Will Shaw Cold Light of Day
This Action thriller was supposed to be originally released April 2012 but for some reason was pushed back to September
While Henry's character Will Shaw a Wall Street trader goes to spain to meet his family for a sailing vacation. His family is kidnapped by agents looking for a briefcase, and ends up on the run.
Stars: Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis, & Sigourney Weaver
Will Shaw is seen in the trailers first shirtless saying he was going to town and thereafter mostly in the same black colored t-shirt. He finds out his father is who he thought he was, and ends up because of his father being chased around coming very close to being killed (he's like a cat in this.. the man's got 9 lives!)
He just wants to find his family & in the process finds out who the actual bad guy is. (to me who that is, is quite predictable)
