Music for Christ Consciousness Meditation

Sound therapy can be deeply calming and healing. Jonathan Goldman, a sound healing pioneer and musician, has created a beautiful relaxation tool and spiritually uplifting music with his CD Holy Harmony. In it, he combines the chant YHSVH (Yod Hey Shin Vav Hey sung beautifully by Sarah Benson), a Hebrew name of the Christ, with harmonious sounds of tuning forks.

Some may be uncomfortable with the term "Christ Energy" not really knowing what that means. In broad terms, Christ Energy or Christ Consciousness is the idea that Jesus the Christ is the perfect example of oneness with God. Do you have to be an evangelical Christian to listen to this? Certainly not. Will Christians be turned off by anything that sounds New Age? That hasn't been my personal experience with all Christians. To be honest though, I've met some Christians who believe that the concept of Christ Consciousness makes people stray from the teachings of the 'true church.'

Sounds and Effects

I've listened to this CD at different times, both during the day and before bed. Sometimes I will meditate to it, pray or just breathe and listen mindfully during the day and it always brings a sense of calm.

Before bed, I can go deep into meditation or drift peacefully to sleep. It helps me to more easily let go of the day's worries. If I can become relaxed enough into the chanting, I find the tuning forks seem to affect me right in the solar plexus area. In Eastern tradition and in some Western mystery traditions, the solar plexus is a power center located in our spiritual body (some call this the aura) just under the belly button. Its related to our sense of self.

You may have a different experience. In fact, I believe this music goes right where the listener needs it to go.

Christ's Jewishness

Did you know that the famous painter Rembrandt was the first artist to depict Jesus as distinctly Jewish? I visited the excellent exhibit, Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus, at the Detroit Institute of Arts. It was a fascinating look at not only the art of a master but the history of religious painting through the ages.

Chariot of Ezekiel

The Merkaba is associated with the chariot of Ezekiel that took him to God. Some see it as a form of interdimensional travel. This CD combines divine name chanting with music that evokes galactic travel and travel to otherworldly dimensions.

Meditation with Crystal Bowls

It sounds crazy doesn't it? I've had the opportunity to meditate in a group setting with crystal bowls. If it's done correctly, it can be felt on all levels—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

I've seen people come into a meditation circle with crystal bowls rolling their eyes and snickering and leaving deeply relaxed and content. This CD by Goldman comes close to reproducing that personal experience which can be very meditative.

5 stars for Holy Harmony by Jonathan Goldman

This music won't appeal to everyone. I find the repetitive nature of the chant and music soothing, but I've seen reviews where this is the thing that annoys some people. But I do believe that people of different backgrounds, especially Christian, Jewish and New Age can appreciate this CD as a way to experience a bit of peace in their day. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
