Updated on November 29, 2012

Did Izzy and George Leave Grey's Anatomy?

Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight & Shonda Rhimes Have Not Yet Revealed Whether Izzy and George Are Dead or Alive

Did Izzy and George Leave Grey's Anatomy?

This season's 2 hour Grey's anatomy season finale cliffhanger was a whopper of an episode. Most notably, T.R. Knight as George got some of his most memorable screen time without being quite seen and then his not getting any lines turned out to be just as moving. What's the meaning of George and 007? Remember George getting dinged with the nickname "license to kill".

Michael Ausiello of ew.com got on the phone with Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes to try to get the scoop to all our questions...Are Izzy / Izzie and George Dead? Can't be, is Izzy gone? Come on, do George and Izzy die? Are Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight leaving Grey's Anatomy? Say it isn't so or will O'Malley live and Izzy die? Here's what tv critic Michael Ausiello found out on ew.com.

Grey's Anatomy Stairway to Heaven - Izzy and Denny Heartwrenching Scenes

In case you missed it or want to see the episode again. In fact, it's a smidge like going back and watching the movie "The Sixth Sense" to see if you can pick up on Denny's cautionary repeated warnings to Izzy "I'm Here For You" which takes on a different melancholy when you know what's to come. Even though I saw this when it originally aired, it still got me broken up when watching it again on You Tube.

The Reason Why Izzy's Dead Boyfriend Returned

After weeks of excruciatingly painful Grey's Anatomy episodes with Izzy and Denny, even though it was nice to see the return of actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Izzy's Dead Boyfriend. We could only take so many weeks of ghost sex. Enough already.

All Was Revealed in the Stairway to Heaven Episode in Season 5 x 13

The episode's title hints at the Grey's Anatomy Izzy and Denny story resolution. The reason Denny has come back to her is not simply to haunt her but to escort her back to heaven. Izzy is pissed. Why didn't her dead boyfriend tell her? She yells back "I Choose Life". Read a commentary from MSNBC.com here.

Denny Is the Grim Reaper Not a Sex Crazed Ghost

So does that mean Katherine Heigl is planning to leave Grey's Anatomy for a movie career? We know in the past she's not been happy with the quality of the writing. But Denny the Dead boyfriend has not left before when Izzy has asked him to so when he walks away, is that the last we've seen of Denny Duquette or does Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes have even more creative tricks up her sleeve to resurrect these characters -- an adopted out twin brother? What do you think about the episode? Did you love it or hate it?

Grey's Anatomy Stairway to Heaven Episode - How Do You Rate the Episode Overall

When you think about it, a lot went on in this episode. Miranda getting emotional, Little Grey and Mark Sloan's tender moment when she strokes his hair, Meredith's compassion for Eric Stoltz's character, the set-up for the potential relationship of Cristina and hot military doc in future episodes, Derek going to Cristina and Meredith and Cristina being there for each other.

Grey's Anatomy Private Practice Crossover - Preview For Thursday, February 5 Event From 9 pm-11 pm

I think Denny may really be gone because on the upcoming episode preview there's no photos of Izzy and Denny. Looks like Shonda Rhimes is gearing up for another whopper of an event. Since starting the spin-off series, Private Practice with Addison, while she's returned to Grey's Anatomy, there's never been a crossover of both entire shows.

Grey's Anatomy has been vague about whether it's going to be 2 separate crossover shows with Grey's Anatomy airing first then Private Practice. However the promos are billing it as a 2 hour unprecedented event as if it's one continuous integrated crossover show.

Ooops. Fixed the broken link to the fabulous Michael Ausiello interview with Shonda Rhimes who unfortunately did not tell-all but Ausiello asks all the questions we want to know....

Watched the last episode of Denny where he essentially went away for good. That scene I liked better than the loving a ghost ones previous. Izzy is now ready to get on with her "real" life.
