Top 10 Matt Damon Movies

Updated on October 15, 2015

Great movies by Matt Damon

Whether your call them movies or films, Matt Damon will go down as one of the best movie actors of his time. From his first movie in 1988, Mystic Pizza, to his latest, I love the work Matt Damon does in the movies.

Matt Damon has shown his acting ability by starring in many different roles, whether you liked him as the rugged Jason Bourne in the Bourne trilogy, the funny side in the Ocean movies, or the sensitive side in I Bought a Zoo, he has certainly shown that he can act.

Soon, people will start talking about the six degrees of Matt Damon, instead of the six degrees of Kevin Bacon. Matt has starred in the biggest stars in movies over the last 25 years, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Sean Connery, Julia Roberts, and Robert Di Nero.

Jason Bourne - The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum

I love action movies and especially spy action movies. I never saw Bourne in the theaters, but this is probably my favorite Matt Damon character. Jason Bourne is trying to determine why he is like he is, and must discover the truth on his own. This along with all the stunts in the movies makes this my top pick.

We Bought a Zoo

I love the serious side of Matt Damon. Matt plays a father whose wife has died and he must go on for his three kids, the oldest who doesn't want to be at the zoo, and instead wants to be back with his friends.

Oceans 11, 12, and 13

I love the Oceans movies. Even though Matt Damon plays a supporting role to George Clooney, Julie Roberts, and Brad Pitt, he plays the straight man very well.

Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting was written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Matt and Ben also starred in the movie. Matt played Will Hunting who is a genius at mathematics even though he never went to college. He is discovered when working as a janitor at Harvard, he solves math problems written on the hallway board by the head of the math department. Matt is then assigned to a psychiatrist, played by Robin Williams, who must crack the tough exterior so that Will Hunting can become the person he wants to be.

Saving Private Ryan

Matt plays a soldier in Saving Private Ryan whose other four brothers have been killed during World War II. It is the job of Tom Hanks to find Private Ryan and bring him back alive to his family in the States. When they find Private Ryan, he is guarding the only bridge the Germans can use to cross the river. Private Ryan isn't going to leave his unit with the Germans bearing down, causing Tom Hanks unit to help defend the bridge.

The Legend of Bagger Vance

Matt Damon plays a golfer who has lost his stroke, but is probably the best golfer in the US at the time. He must learn how to play golf again, by his caddy, Will Smith. Matt gets his chance to play against the best golfers of the time, Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen. The Legend of Bagger Vance is directed by Robert Redford.

Teaming up with Morgan Freeman and director Clint Eastwood, who depict the time Nelson Mandela becoming president of South Africa and how the South African National Rugby team, the Springboks, makes their historic run to the 1995 Rugby Championship Match.

The Good Shephard

Matt Damon plays a young CIA agent looking for a leak in the young agency. The Good Shephard also stars Robert Di Nero and Angelina Jolie

The Informant

Matt Damon plays Mark Whitacre who turns evidence on an agri-business giant for price fixing. Whitacre becomes an FBI spy with no training, and tells enough that he can't keep them all straight, at which point they all come crashing down.

I have a number of his movies that I like. There are no favorites because each movie is different. However, if I was to choose from your list, I'd also put the Bourne Trilogy at the top.
