Best New Kids Movies 2014

Best Kids Movies 2014

As I look forward to a new year I am eagerly awaiting the release of new kids movies in 2014 both at the cinema and on DVD. Some of my favorite movies of all time are kids movies, and it looks like I'll be able to add to this list in 2014.

I love kids movies that are for kids and also for the whole family. They also tend to be really funny and these also tend to be some of the highest grossing movies of the year too. This just proves how popular these kinds of movies are. And they tend to appeal to lots of different age groups as everyone is allowed in to see them.

Here are the top 10 kids movies I am looking forward to in 2014, along with details on some of the other movies we can look forward to in this category, in case you don't agree with me.

And the biggest shocker of the year is that Pixar have no official release planned for 2014 as the movie they had planned to release, Dinosaurs, lost it's Director and will now be delayed to 2015. However, Disney and Dreamworks in particular, have some great choices for us as you'll see below.

Upcoming Kids Movies 2014

Here's the details for 10 of the most anticipated kids movies in 2014, listed in order of cinema air date

Make sure you don't miss your favorites!

The Lego Movie

Airing from February 7th 2014

Lego first started with kids building houses from red bricks, but it's been developing quickly and there's even a Lego theme park. There are Lego characters and Warner Brothers have decided to make a movie where all your favorite Lego characters come together to save the world.

With the help of Gandalf, Batman, Abraham Lincoln and many others, an everyday Lego man gets pulled into the fight of the century. It's very much like the Matrix theme in this sense where he's supposed to be Neo, or the One. In this case, they call him "the Special," except he's anything but.

It's really funny and looks like it's not just for kids. There will be lots of jokes that kids won't understand but will have adults laughing their socks off.

This animated picture comes with a big star cast including Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Channing Tatum, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett and many more. It will be fun trying to recognize the voices.

Check out the trailer below.

Mr Peabody & Sherman

March 7th 2014

What happens when you have a geeky boy, who's only real friend is a talking dog, who then meets a girl he really likes?

Why, he finds himself talking about the one thing he's not supposed to... The Way Back Machine. That's right, the secret time machine that's in the secret room.

Mr Peabody rushes the kids back in time to rewrite the history that the children managed to mess up, in order to save the world as we know it.

Revisit some of your favorite historical moments such as Leonardo DaVinci painting Mona Lisa, The Trojan conquest and discover the truth about Napoleon. When some of these historical figures end up in our time, things get really funny.

Lots of gags for kids and others that are just for adults. Looks like it will be great fun for the whole family too.

Muppets Most Wanted

March 21st 2014

The Muppets are back again in this sequel.

What's it about, we'll it sounds like the Muppets are in trouble this time around. There's a Kermit look a like that's stolen some jewels. The Muppets will have to try to solve the crime while staying one step ahead of the police.

You'll see some of your favorite characters such as Kermit and there will be lots of laughs.

Young kids will really like this most and you know it will mainly be clean gags that are kid safe.

Look forward to familiar faces including Ricky Jervais, Tina Frey and Ty Burrell.

More details can be seen in the trailer below.

Rio 2

April 11th 2014

Look out for some more fun antics from our favorite Macaw's.

Blu and Jewel are back with their three little chicks. They are ready to go into the wild, well at least Jewel and the kids are excited, Blu is nervous of course!

When they leave home to find their place in the Amazon adventure awaits. Jewel is surprisingly reunited with her father, who's top bird in the Amazon. He's extremely happy to be a granddad, but when Blu calls him old, he finds himself on the outs with the in-laws. Blu will need to adapt to his new surroundings, but he still has his cute and funny friends to steer him in the right direction.

Expect some evil antics from Cockatoo Nigel who is still looking to take revenge on these birds!

Not only is this movie fun for kids, but it's good for the whole family too.

Try and figure out who each of the characters are voiced by including Jamie Foxx,, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and more.

Now this is one of the most heavily upcoming kids movies of 2014.

Angelina Jolie is cast as the lead and I believe this is the first time where Disney have actually concentrated on the backstory of a villain, rather than the typical Princess. This makes me super excited to see the absolutely wicked Maleficent, or so we thought.

Now in the original movie, Maleficent was responsible for Princess Aurora becoming Sleeping Beauty. However, this time round, audiences will get to see the real motivation behind this supposed wicked woman's actions. What's the real relationship between these two characters? Why does Maleficent watch over this little Princess and how will she be redeemed in the end? She's gotta be right, it's a Disney movie afterall!

I think this movie will appeal to young and older audiences too - for those that know the story and for those completely new to the story. However, this story does concentrate on the dark side of things, so it might be scary for little children at times.

I'm really excited to see Disney do something a little different by flipping the tables on us. I already have this one in my diary as a must see at the cinema!

How to Train Your Dragon 2

June 13th 2014

Yeah!!!! Toothless and Hiccup are back! And they are all grown up but still super cute.

Now Dragons are a Vikings best friend. They co-exist and allow them to travel further than they've ever travelled before. Toothless and Hiccup continue to lead the Viking people to new heights.

When Hiccup travels to a desolate land, he finds many shocking surprises including his mother, an upcoming danger on the horizon and that he must find a way to not only save his people, but also the Dragons.

This is a movie not just for kids but also for the whole family, including grumpy adults. I have to admit that I cried when I watched the preview trailer. I didn't expect Hiccup to be all grown up, and he has an even better bond with Toothless now too. They are so adorable together.

The music in the trailer is just perfect. It has a blend of hope and yet is kinda sad at the same time. It made me want to cry. Why? I have no idea. But I know I am not the only one.

Watch it below and see what I mean.

I can guarantee you one hundred percent that I will be in the cinema to watch this one! The bond these two have is so endearing.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

June 27th 2014

So we have a revamp of the Transformers movie series. Out goes Shia LeBeouf and in comes Mark Wahlberg.

In line with this, the Transformers get a make over too. Bumblebee gets an upgrade as a more modern version of his model, along with Optimus prime and the other Autobots.

Since the movie has moved away from Witwicky it sounds like there will be a new threat found on Earth, in the form of Dinobots. This makes sense when you look at the title of the latest film in the series as it's about extinction.

I'm expecting this movie to be a bit more gritty than the previous ones, since it is Mark Wahlberg. But it will probably still be a PG13 so it can still pull the large audiences.

Even though I am a girl, I love the Transformer movies. Talking robots that are also hot cars! What more could you ask for?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

August 8th 2014

The Turtles are back! And this time it's not an animated adventure!

So Megan Fox jumped from transforming cars to Turtles that walk, talk and are ninja's too! You'll be able to see her as reporter April in the latest version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in cinema's from August 2014.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

November 21st 2014

So far we've had the first two movies in The Hunger Games series. The last book in the series has been split into 2 movies and the first part will air in November 2014.

Katniss Everdeen returns to our screens but everything is different. She was "rescued" at the end of Catching Fire, but Peta was left behind. District 12 was destroyed and many people were killed. There's rebellion across the remaining Districts and Katniss has to respond and become the beacon of hope if she expects to be able to save Peta from the Capitol.

However, she will struggle as everything she does will lead to pain and misery for those she loves most. And throughout, she'll have to figure out how safe life in District 13 really is.

Other 2014 Kids Movies to Look Forward To

There are lots of movies for kids to enjoy in 2014. Some of them are perfect for little ones, but there are others that are likely to be PG13's and more suited to older kids.

I've mainly stuck to ones the whole family can enjoy above, with a few superhero movies added for those older kids to enjoy too.

Here are some more movies that young teens and young adults will especially like this year.

  1. Vampire Academy - February 24th 2014 - The Vampire Academy books have been used to make this movie about a special human who protects her Vampire ward while at high school.
    It's really funny in places.
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy - August 1st 2014 - When a guy gets stranded in space, he soon discovers that we are not alone. Indeed, there are Guardians of the Galaxy that are there to protect us from evils beyond our imagination. Another Marvel comic brought to life.
  3. The Maze Runner - September 19th 2014 - Also based on a series of young adult novels based in a dystopian future. Who will earn freedom from within the Maze?

Here are the kids movies I am most looking forward to seeing in 2014. I know these are also the ones that I want to see in the cinema the most, especially Maleficent, How to Train Your Dragon 2 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Which movies are you most looking forward to and is there anything that you are dying to watch that I haven't included on this list?

I love all of the movies listed here but I just can't help squealing about How To Train your Dragon 2 - which looks like it has themes that can cross age groups. I don't know if they've released too much (seeing as Dreamworks has released the first 5 minutes of the movie) but I can't wait! So many things to look forward to this summer!
